      @@TheRealJims Good instincts. It still blows my mind how relaxed I feel listening to someone share their appreciation of my favorite Simpsons moments while cozy remixes of DKC, Earthbound & Chrono Trigger play in the background. Your stuff helped me survive 2020.
      Side note: I was watching the Season 4 commentary of The Simpsons the other day. Hearing them giggle at Hans Moleman's truck catching fire before any sign of danger is incredible.

    Something I only just appreciated upon my rewatch of Toy Story 3 about a week ago.
    In Toy Story 1, Mr Potato Head adamantly refuses to hold hands with Rex when they are made moving buddies, but in the incinerator scene, he takes Rex's hand without a moment's hesitation.
    As if I needed more reasons for this scene to be so emotionally crushing.

      Had never noticed that... Thanks, that is awesome! You can tell Pixar thought really hard about which characters should hold hands with each other. I really like their decision to have Woody and Slinky together at the end.

      @tigorelloensil3676 5 років тому +20

      @@TheRealJims I also love how they never show Mr and Mrs Potato Head holding hands, because they didn't need to. They were holding hands the moment they started running from the incinerator. For what was essentially a joke couple in Toy Story 2, they really did show the more serious side to the relationship here. And yes, I agree, having Woody hold hands with Slinky is brilliant.

    I'm a little nervous about posting this video because this is a film that I am really passionate about, and the review goes to admittedly weird and dark places. There's a lot of big themes and strong imagery in the film, it's a very easy one to over-analyze. And y'all know I love to overanalyze things. I've also heard some interesting interpretations of Toy Story 3 over the years that I wanted to discuss a little, some of which I felt were touchy subjects. Seems like one of those films that is inviting different readings by different people.
    This was originally going to be a double-header with WALL-E, but I fought with this review so much that I want to do some more Simpsons stuff for October first and then finish it off. Didn't think it was fair for people to wait so long for more Simpsons content just because I can't deal with Toy Story 3. I don't think the WALL-E review is going to be nearly as difficult, though, and it most certainly won't be as long.

      Honestly I think this review really suffered from over-analysing. Just because one scene uses Hellish imagery doesn’t mean the film is an allegory for religion. I know you didn’t full on agree with that interpretation but you didn’t really argue for it or against it, kinda leaving the section of the review feeling weird and pointless. Someone who sees more value in that interpretation would probably disagree and find it interesting to think about but I found the concept ridiculous and you didn’t give me a reason to find it less so.
      Same goes for the whole film in a sense. I really don’t see the themes of Toy Story 3 as particularly grand or complex in comparison to Pixar’s other films and it’s structured exactly like Toy Story 2. I had a similar dislike of Monsters University but you managed to turn me around on that one, here not so much...

    I think the whole Andy choosing Woody over Buzz thing is really interesting- it's sort of a subtle nod to the nature of nostalgia and memory- something the movie plays on with it's audience a lot too. He probably associates Woody with the earlier parts of his childhood that he's more nostalgic about. He had Woody a lot longer than Buzz too.
    Maybe that's why I rank Toy Story 1 so much higher than it probably technically should be. Like Woody, I've just known it longer.

    Ok. I know people hate on him as a character, but as a villain, Lotso is up there in my favorite Pixar villains as well. I know some other villains take the cake, but if this strawberry scented crack nut of stuffed animal was memorable enough to make me by a plush of him a bit after I saw the movie, that's saying A LOT about how the writers took his character. He has a nice complexity that can be explained to children. And I still have the plush. This is also one of my favorite sequels. Pixar does know how to give us what we're looking for. I thought Finding Dory was a good Movie. And Incredibles 2 BLEW me away. Pixar to me just makes good sequels. Amazing video.

    • @TheRealJims
      @TheRealJims  5 років тому +9

      After 2 films where humans were the villains who didn't understand the implications of what they were doing, I thought it was refreshing that they ran waaaaaay the opposite direction with the third one. Lotso knows exactly what he's doing, he understands exactly what the human-toy dynamic is, and instead weaponizes that dynamic for his own pleasure. Stinky Pete did a variation on that, but I think Lotso uses the dynamic in a more interesting and meaningful way. There's no magical option to live forever offered in this film.
      There is very little subtlety to Lotso, but sometimes I enjoy the portrayal of someone who is just rotten to the core.
      (Don't ever lose that Lotso plush!) :p

    • @ToonReel001
      @ToonReel001 4 роки тому +1

      @@TheRealJims My main issue with Lotso is that he kinda hijacks the movie for me, I never really saw Toy Story as primarily a 'good vs evil' type thing, which is why I think Sid and Stinky Pete worked fine as minor antagonists and obstacles that brought out the protagonists' character development. Lotso feels more like a super villain. And I think that also makes it harder when they try to revert back to their earlier more contemplative plot line, since they kinda awkwardly just sweep him out with one gag rather than a truly cathartic comeuppance, while his minions don't really have an agency and are just randomly turned good, despite having ZERO signs of being conflicted or unwilling to do all the horrible things Lotso made them do. It merges with the running idea of toys being desperate weak willed individuals who linger over selling out each other to avoid the dump, but I feel like they maybe should have shown a clearer consequence for 'selling their soul to the toy devil' (same for maybe Chuckles, it really seemed like him and Big Baby were all set to just crawl back into Daisy's room and leave Lotso to his fate before he turned evil). Lotso's villainy sort of diluted the premise into just black and white, making flawed characters just plot devices.
      I suppose it feels a bit like your problem with how Stinky Pete blends with Jessie's development in the second movie, it feels like they went a bit with a cheap fix rather than finishing things off in a satisfying way.

I liked Toy Story 4 better cause it affected me a lot more with the theme of life in general feeling more natural to me where it’s better to let go and know when you should be loyal and know when the job is done. So when it got to the ending I saw where they were going and I knew that this felt like a deserved ending.

    When I first saw this movie in theaters, I cried at the ending (my dad actually got concerned and asked if I was alright). The second time I watched it at home, I got a bit misty-eyed but I didn't cry. Now it doesn't make me cry at all. I'm also reminded of comments made by a certain critic of the nostalgic variety with regards to this film's ending; apparently, not only did he not cry, he LAUGHED at it (only to be immediately silenced once everyone surrounding him shot him angry, teary-eyed glares). He later clarified that the reason he initially thought it was funny and didn't cry was because he didn't think someone Andy's age would be acting this way with his childhood toys. He admits that he feels very attached to old toys and deeply regrets giving some of them away, but points out the fact that he gave some of them away is part of his point here; he claims we all go through this phase in our teens where we reject what we grew up with from our childhoods to come off as more "mature" or "grown-up", and feels like if Andy were a little older and not college-aged, he'd find him affectionately playing with his old toys along with Bonnie more believable, instead of just awkwardly goofy.
    Part of me is tempted to point out that this gentleman-who-shall-not-be-named-but-I'm-certain-you-know-who-I'm-talking-about has a tendency to view things only from his personal perspective and is ignorant of the idea that people emotionally mature at different rates (the fact that he can't see past his own personal experiences is probably why his review of The Wall is so crap, but that's kind of irrelevant here), but at the same time, I do understand where he's coming from in this case, and I think he might not be far off with this assessment. Again, I cried when I first saw this movie, but haven't had that same emotional feeling during rewatches, and I think that has a lot to do with how old I was watching the first two Toy Story movies versus how old I was watching the third one. I was basically the perfect age when it came to this franchise, being a kid and close to Andy's age seeing Toy Story and Toy Story 2, and being in college by the time Toy Story 3 rolled around. During that time, I was going through a lot of changes in my life, and I was starting to accept that I wasn't a child anymore, and that I had to leave a lot of things from my childhood behind... a lot like Andy learning to let go of the toys he played with and cared about as a kid to someone who will give them a good home, as opposed to merely leaving them in the attic (also, let's be real, what was Andy really going to do with Woody in college, would he actually play with him like he used to? Doubtful). I think THAT'S why the movie had the impact it did on me when I first watched it, and why that impact has faded away over time, the more I become an adult, while I do wistfully look back at the time I spent when I was younger, it wasn't as immediate and didn't hit as close to home as it did when I first saw the movie. I have long since let go of my childhood and accepted that.
    Of course, that's not to say this movie still doesn't hit me where it hurts. It's interesting how increasingly dark and intense the Toy Story movies got with each new installment (up until the fourth one, anyway), and the movie doesn't pull any punches with the places it goes. That incinerator scene is pretty freaking messed up, it reminds me of the nightmare scene from The Brave Little Toaster (among many others, that movie had a lot of intense moments looking back on it). Scene of what Sunnyside Daycare is REALLY like for the toys also gets pretty brutal. And Lotso, HO BOY Lotso... I remember HATING this guy when I first saw this movie, and being unsatisfied with his ultimate fate because I hated him that much. The sticking point for me was when Woody and Buzz just went out their way to save him, then when they helped him up to stop the conveyor belt from dumping them in the incinerator he just goes "Where's your kid NOW, sheriff?!" and walks off. I heard this scene was added after test screenings where audiences felt Lotso's backstory was so tragic that they sympathized with him too much and wanted to see him redeemed, and the writers wanted to convey that what happened to Lotso turned him bad to the point of no return, that there was no going back for him. I'd say it was effective in that I can't see an ungrateful bastard like that getting redeemed in any way. Still, Lotso is a fascinating villain in that sometimes just because someone has a tragic backstory, that doesn't necessarily they're worthy of sympathy, especially if the backstory turned them into a worse person who only hurt those around him after the fact.
    One last thing, something I always found amusing about Toy Story 3 was its history, specifically as potentially being one of the first Pixar properties to have gotten a sequel without Pixar's involvement. Yeah, back when Michael Eisner was still running things, and things were getting really rough between Disney and Pixar, a new studio called "Circle Seven Animation" was formed, apparently with the specific purpose to make sequels to Pixar movies, with the first of them being Toy Story 3. The original pitch for the movie was Andy and his toys visiting his grandmother while his room got remodeled, meeting new set of older toys while there, and a "whodunit" style mystery revolving around toys going missing. Another pitch was about Buzz malfunctioning and getting recalled and the toys shipping themselves to Taiwan to rescue him. The apparent ending to the latter movie was that they'd end up in a daycare where they'd be played with by kids forever, which is funny considering the movie we ultimately ended up getting. I'm actually glad none of those movies got made, as this one feels much more thematically appropriate for the series, building off the themes set up in the first two, in particular the concept of Andy growing older and wondering what will happen to them as time goes on. It's particularly interesting since Woody claims that he'll enjoy it while it lasts, implying that he's come to terms with the idea that Andy will outgrow him, but then again, it's one thing saying you've accepted something, it's another thing to actively confront it when it happens, and really, with the way they hammered this point home in Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3 really did have to be the one to cap it all off, and it did so in a brilliant and appropriate way. It really makes me wish the series ended with this movie, it was just too perfect for a series like this...

    One thing I didn't like was Jessie not having a larger role. Her backstory is very similar to Lotso and it would have been nice if she had more things to say. It's kinda how I feel about a lot of the supporting characters in Toy Story. Very fun and lively but lacking development. And for Jessie to be pushed aside is kinda annoying because her backstory in the previous film is easily the most emotional the scene gets, and now she has to confront it twice, when Andy gives them up and during Lotso's backstory. And I don't think the movie earned that incinerator scene not if you didn't grow up with these characters. Because remember this isn't a concluding movie to a 10 year show. This is a movie that time skipped to the current age of its audience. If you loved them as a child them yes, that scene hits really hard. It's animated so well, with very little dialogue. But I can see 20 years from now someone will watch the trilogy in one night and not really feel that emotionally invested in guys like Rex or Ham.
    Also I wouldn't call it a Deus Ex Machina. I reserve that for two things, it happens for no reason and it's unexpected. And we clearly see the LGM not there and more importantly come on, we all knew it wasn't going to happen. Pixar knew they wouldn't do it and they knew we knew they wouldn't do it. So instead the emotion is not in them dying but rather the way they face death.

      Yeah. Re-watching it for this review, I noticed they did try to position her as a sort of philosophical leader of the group of toys, and then again with the escape. But the stuff with Buzz overshadows her role. They didn't give her a lot of time to shine, just little things like briefly fighting everyone off during a scene. They could have had her confront Lotso's hypocrisy by relating to her own issues (maybe during the dumpster scene) and then let Woody finish off with the Daisy reveal.

      Rex gets an arc about overcoming his roadblock wich important part of Toy Story 2 side plot.Bullseye is hard to say he has an arc since he cant speak or choose but he goes from being a commodity to a toy that is actually loved,thats a development at least.And Mr Potato Head has like the best arc for any side character in pixar he goes from this cynical cranky guy to married man to father of three and the payoff for his arc saves the characters from certain doom in this movie!
      The only ones I feel are a underdeveloped are Slinky and Ham and yeah Jessie getting little to do in 3 and 4 is dissapointing but hey at least Toy Story Terror she is like the main character for half of it

    Do you feel that Lotso is a rehash of Stinky Pete to a degree? Both are jaded, bitter, cynical toys who resent not being appreciated by kids and seeing kids as uncaring and only existing to destroy toys ultimately. Both try to convince Woody that he is naive to have trust in Andy or any other human and have given up having a meaningful connection to humans again.

    • @TheRealJims
      @TheRealJims  5 років тому +3

      They definitely share similarities but I don't view Lotso as a rehash of Stinky Pete because the films use them to make entirely different points. I actually think Stinky Pete is the worst aspect of Toy Story 2, a character concept that is a good idea but is so underdeveloped and rushed that he barely makes for a credible villain. They liked the idea of a toy as a villain, but placed him a story so dependent on the human/toy relationship. Whereas with Lotso, they were more interested in discussing what kinds of systems toys would build when left to their own devices, how a toy would actively subvert the human/toy dynamic.
      I would characterize Stinky Pete as being more like a fanatic, whereas Lotso tried to become a god. The Toy Story movies are kind of challenging to figure out where the rehash line is since they all deal with variations on similar themes.

    The main thing that baffeled me about the plot was why they needed to be by the Curb to go from Black-Bag to Sunnyside-Box. When they’re at the top of the stairs they could’ve just worried thay they’re in a black bag, hopped out, then gone into the box for Sunnyside. Why the needless coincedence that the Attic Ladder moves?

      If you go point by point regarding the plot, you can argue that Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 are very similar films, but in my honest opinion, it's an INCREDIBLY mechanical view of the films. No functioning human could reasonably conclude that watching those two films is actually a similar experience, despite the plot points that are similar.

      3 works as a stand alone film imo better than 2 but as a trilogy 3 feels so different form 1 and 2 is more like 1 and feels like a continuation because its not that much later ..that's its strength..it feel natural and when you see 2 and then watch 3 right away it just feels like the same beats till the ending climax at the dump which is a fake out feels cheap scare anyways and the scene with the girl at the very ends drags to long to be emotional...andy should of just given her the toys...

    It's funny you praise the film for not being the second film again when that actually one of the major criticisms of it I hear a lot (e.g YMS review of it and NitPix "Is Pixar Dead?" video).
    I do kind of see that myself, but I don't actually think that's such a bad thing. It's a lot of the same idea and arcs of the second film, but done much better and with much higher stakes. It's essentially "Toy Story 2: remastered"
    I agree about how they get to the dump is a little too forced. Basically, Woody get pulled into the dumpster and the moment that happens, every other toy leaps into the dumpster as it's being tipped into the truck. Does it really need all of them to rescue Woody?

    • @TheRealJims
      @TheRealJims  5 років тому +14

      I am regretting not slandering Toy Story 2 more in this review. I didn't want this to become strictly a comparison piece and not a review, but also I do obviously really enjoy Toy Story 2 and didn't want to just bag on it in a different video. I underestimated how much the serialized sequel aspect of Toy Story 3 gets to people.
      I find the sequel stuff in Toy Story 2 much more irritating because there is no commentary to it. They'll send Buzz through the loop again, they'll have them slowly wander under cones, not because they are making a point, but because, "HEY GUYS, REMEMBER THIS PART?" A lot of Buzz's storyline (especially with his clones) serves to relive the glory days of the first film, and this is about half of the plot. It serves its purpose tonally, since Woody has to remember Andy and those days, but all of the sequel stuff is directed at us the audience and not Woody. It was originally a direct-to-video movie, I can't say I don't understand why these elements are they way they are.
      Toy Story 3 most certainly does build upon elements and themes of the second film, but it is always either to make a point about how things have changed, or to pivot the second film into a new direction. Buster returns partially as the "HEY GUYS" but also to reorient what direction this film is going in. Bonnie's room has structurally similar elements to the Al kidnapping, but is instead used to take the film in the complete opposite direction of 2. Chuckles sitting at the window is a deliberate nod to Jessie, a dark echo of how people instead take out their existential problems on other people. The main thrust of the film, the Sunnyside stuff, I don't feel structurally resembles Toy Story 2 very much at all, and these callbacks helps put it in its framework.
      (The Buzz reprogramming part, I do view cynically, though. That, I won't defend.)
      Also, I think Toy Story 2's conceit of "having the opportunity to live forever" is less interesting and less relevant than 3's approach. People (outside of fiction) aren't typically offered the chance to live forever in isolation. It's just a philosophy exercise. I feel it is decidedly more relevant to look at what kinds of social structures people build to deal with these problems. Lotso is trapped in the world of the mundane.
      I think Toy Story 2 should most certainly be lauded for its big ideas and setting up the story that this film has to deal with. But 2 ends with a particularly poor final act... It asks a lot of questions, but because of the nature of doubt, has no idea how to answer or test any of these lessons. Stinky Pete is a good idea of a character, but they run out of time with him, and he comes off as underdeveloped and ineffectual. I think the implied story of, "The toys doubt themselves but conclude to have faith that they'll be together and it'll be okay, and that's exactly what happened" would be a naive assumption, and would betray the good questions Toy Story 2 asked. Toy Story 3 is an essential film to test these conclusions, to go over the ugly portrayal of the "in practice". I think Toy Story 3 ends up eating 2's lunch because it has a stronger sense of where it wants to go with these questions. I personally care more about the application of a question than who asked a question first. I don't care if Final Fantasy 4 came up withe Active Time Battle system first, FF6 is still the much better game.
      (Sorry for the long reply directed at your comment, I agree with what you said, but your comment reminded me of the stuff about 2 that had been bubbling up in my head.) :p

    Between princess Daisy and Jessie from the toy story 2 it’s uncanny that it’s a Version of princess Daisy just braid Daisy‘s hair and put on a cowgirl uniform and Jessie already has the personality. toy story 3 why hasn’t anybody made a video on the resemblance of Jesse and Daisy and princess daisy from Nintendo. In Toy story 3 introducing a child named Daisy who is wearing a yellow sleeveless shirt with a faded daisy emblem on it and even though she has blonde hair Daisy‘s hair was blonde in the early years and the child’s hair is parted in the center. (Daisy fans at Pixar!) Charles Martinet as Luigi as they were on a date Daisy says her favorite color is purple. Someone should say hey Daisy did you lose your Lotso bear?
    Daisy possibly would reply yes how did you know? I also lost a baby doll and a clown doll when I was a child but my parents replaced lotso for me. And stinky Pete is not only based off of Pete from Mickey Mouse but resembles Wario perfectly in the extras of Toy story 2 Pete passes gas and says maybe they should call me stinky Pete gas is what Wario is known for. Woody-Luigi, buzz Lightyear-Mario, Bo peep-princess peach, Pete-Wario, it all makes the Toy story series more enjoyable to watch.

    Remember watching this for the 1st time in the cinemas when I was 8 & left dry eyed & bored.
    I was probably very much in the corner of Woody in the sense, just go back to Andy, because the bin bag mix up was such a simple mistake.
    I felt like Lotso was supposed to be a twist villian & he was a red flag from the very 1st moment.
    Overall just didn't connect to the movie like I did with the 1st 2 & I know I won't be able to re-watch it objectively, because I've tried.
    The insinorator scene: Lead up is great, shouted idiots when they delegate Lotso to stop the conveyor belt, & then "THE CLAAAAW" was funny & made up for '...but how did they get there?????', I dunno why but I was never convinced they were going to die & therefore didn't believe their belief, just sat there questioning how they wern't melting.
    And as someone who refuses to give up old toys even if I havn't played with them in years, much like Andy wanting to put them in the attic at the start of the movie, the give away scene, while it hit with me, it didn't quite hit home how they wanted.

    My problem with the movie is how the villains feel a bit too much of a blotch on the plot, like they take over it rather than flowing naturally with the message. Also while Toy Story 1 had carefully revised itself to have identifiable likeable jerks like Woody, Toy Story 3 has loads of one dimensional super villains that you're supposed to forgive in the end for the sake of a happy ending. Yeah the day care toys aren't the main characters so aren't really the focus of the main plot but they are still played as sinister evil characters up until it is all somehow swept under the rug. Ken actually had it the best in treatment since he was at least ineffectual and conflicted even before Lotso was sabotaged, the others were just one note thugs who were enjoying their job way to much to be considered unwitting pawns.
    The exchange that is actually the final pivot in Lotso's turn is also jarring ("She replaced us" "No, she just replaced YOU..."). It sounds like Chuckles is on the verge of saying "Hey screw you pal, WE'RE just fine" and crawling back into the kid's bed, but of course since the focus is on Lotso being evil and Chuckles is such a minor character, that implied weak willed moment of selfishness never comes into focus. The focus is more on this one ball of evil, not the flaws and weaknesses of the toys wanting to stay the apple in a kids' eye, even if it means selling out other toys, much like in the first and second movie.
    It feels like something that could have worked better on a far more mundane route, with less characters and a more low tier antagonist role with the same sort of theme, over trying for this distracting 'good vs evil' epic. Toy Story 2 had a better more subtle approach, having an antagonistic toy but one that was a flowing part of the narrative and felt driven by weak wills and frustrations than 'Evil Mc Evil'.

      3 has a better story ..2 was a better toy story film and narrative ...the way 1 is honestly better than 3 as a toy story film....it just is better imo...I liked 3 and it has great elements but if you seen the great escape toy story 2 and understand they wont die in the fire like I didnt expect them too so it didnt hit my feels and if you got spoiled on that even worse then this film is a waste of time until the final 5 minutes honestly...basically if you turn off your feels and watch it objectively its just great not perfect not amazing just great ...still a 8.8 film I would say out of 10..1 was a 9 2 was a 9.4..almost perfect

    I enjoyed Toy Story 3 but honestly let's be real it's very much the same formula as Toy Story 2, I would recommend watching the YMS: Toy Story 3 video (YourMovieSucksDOTorg) from years ago if you don't believe me, I wouldn't do it justice by summarising it in this comment alone.

    Imo, if Toy Story is a near-perfect trilogy, then Toy Story 4 is its near-perfect epilogue.
    Toy Story 3, in a very round-about sort of way, was Andy's ending, as he learns to let go of his toys.
    Tory Story 4 though, is Woody's ending, where he finally learns to let go of Andy.
    Pinocchio is now fully his own "Real Boy." I mean... his name is "Woody," for a reason, amiright?

      Also, is Forky a metaphor for Woody? A toy made real only by a child's belief? Or are they both "Real Boys"?

      Forky is a foil to Gabby in concept - where Gabby is a broken Toy who is treated like trash, and Forky is a functional construction of trash who is treated like a Toy.
      We've seen different examples of broken Toys and how their owners react to them throught out the franchise - Weezy and Woody in TS2, TS3 and the entire Trash sequence and concept, Chatter (the phone toy), and in TS4, Bo Peep (her arm) and Gabby.
      Most of them are only special for being a piece of merchandaise - especially in TS2 with Al.
      Forky flips this whole concept of not functioning how you're supposed to function and applies it to a functional culmination of trash. Trash can't break right? Well Maybe not to others, but to an owner who loves you for who you are - in this case Bonnie - yes absolutely.
      There's more that could be said obviously but I'll leave it at that. Hopefully you can fill in the blanks.

      Toy story 4 teaches you to abandon responsibilities and to put up with abuse because your abusers are secretly good too ready with trite sob stories. Its pathetic attempts at emotional scenes are manipulative dribble. The movie is a tone whiplash nightmare cutting from the two racist plush dolls assaulting people then back to the horror movie woody plot. Woody is basically raped and violated in exchanging forky fir his voice box and the film acts like what gabby did was ok. (Before anyone says he willing gave her it, no it was a last ditch effort to get forky. He wouldn't have given it to her otherwise. Also just reimagine this moment with woody as a woman and gabby as a man and you'll change your tune.) also imagine if latso got away with all his shady wrong doings and leaving the gang to die in the junkyard. Every single character was completely flipped to serve the films awful story and feels like it was written by a deadbeat dad trying to justify to himself that leaving your kids to get laid is somehow ok because "screw it buzz can handle the kids, lets go get wasted." every woman in the film is treated like mother Teresa and every man is a bumbling idiot. Woody and bo-peep WOULD NOT SURVIVE the harsh elements of the outdoors especially living in the playground sandbox the hobos probably piss in. And thr final nail in the coffin is woody would NEVER leave his family for what is basically a stranger wearing bo-peeps clothes.
      I'm as open minded as the next guy but Toy story 4 is everything wrong with the hippy dippy new-age super liberal mindset. Toy story 4 is garbage.

      Here's my take on TS4
      To begin with, Woody questioned what his real purpose should be. Would you want to be there for a person who doesn't care about you? I mean if you do then go on right ahead but not everyone has to do the same. If Woody’s reason to exist relies on love, TS4 asks bleakly, what happens if that love is taken away?
      The other characters where pushed off to give the newer characters a chance to shine. Also Rex, Porky, and MPH were basically comedic relief in the first three films, and admitingly great comedic relief. But they served basically the same purpose here as the previous three. I mean maybe MPH and Porky had some level of purpose with the statistical facts and reasoning and such but in the second film they were there there just to tag along with Buzz in the end.
      But "I dOn'T cArE aBoUt ThE nEw ChArAcTeRs" is not criticism. They had their screen time in the previous films.
      Bo Peep recieves huge upgrade and her development makes sense (go watch Lamp Life), very similar to Woody.
      Duke is a much more interesting supporting character. He basically mocks the first film with Buzz and the advertisement. The film is essentially saying that just because you're just a toy doesn't make you any less unique. You aren't just a child's plaything. Lotso is very similar, except he was replaced entirely so he doesn't feel that way, which is why he became who he was. He put himself at the top. TS4 supports and justifies Lotso's motivations quite nicely.
      Gabby on the other hand has that desire to be wanted since she hasn't felt that before. She shows sympathy towards Woody, which you purposefully left out. She's basically just beginning her journey. Gabby's obsession with affection isn’t that different from Woody’s. But unlike Woody, Gabby never experienced it, and that makes her more desperate.
      Woody, however, has already fullfilled his purpose and re-examines his morals in this film. It's not hypocritical, it's a change in perspective. You aren't made to fullfill any purpose. Everything is your choice.
      Forky is a very ironic character, he claims he's trash because yes, he's made from trash (he's Bonnie's Trash). But not because nobody wants him. That scenario's applied to Woody. Forky's character basically questions the first film's message and asks, "so if I'm an accident does that mean I should fullfill being an accident?"
      Take note that Bonnie has forky now, unlike Lotso being replaced with an identical copy of him after being lost. Woody was cast away entirely. Notice the difference? Daisy replaced Lotso entirely. While to Bonnie, there's only one Forky and Forky can't be replaced (and these character names make it hard for me to take this discussion seriously but you get the point hopefully lmfao).
      TS4 brings back a lot of of motifs introduced in TS2. Will sitting on a shelf solve anything? Will waiting for someone to pick you up make a difference if it'll never happen?
      TS4 also brings back "the box" at the beginning of the film. Usually the box is associated with being taken away and moving on (E.G. The Toys' trip to Sunnyside, Jessie and Pete, in this case Peep leaving and moving forward).
      Essentially the film is saying that there will be a time where you'll have to live on your own, where people won't be there for you. What matters is the times and feelings you shared.
      There's much more that could be said but I'll leave it at that.

    I think the Toy Story movies keep getting more emotional... until Toy Story 4. It is even less emotional than toy story 1, which I still really like. Toy Story 4 is about a 7/10 for me.
    My ranking of the Toy Story movies is a s follows:
    Toy Story 3-10/10
    Toy Story 2-9/10
    Toy Story 1-9/10
    Toy Story 4-7/10.
