I like your thought process. I have a g19 and g43x, love them both, but the gx4 definitely can serve a purpose, especially in the summer or as a backup.
6 months after its release the GX4 began to enter the sub $300 price range at some local gun shops. I picked 2 at $271 ea out the door during a black friday sale. Replaced the sights with Truglo Pro TG231G1W for Glock 17/19 from Amazon ($55/set). So for just around $325 I was able to get a GX4 with tritium night sights. I have difficulty in installing the large grip backstrap. The plastic piece has some deformities from improper molding process. So it does not fit the frame as tightly as it should causing the pin holes to be misaligned with the pin holes on the frame. Called Taurus and sent them pictures of the problem grip module. No action taken by Taurus so far.
I own a number of the Micro 9mm's. I have to say the Gx4 has made it to the top of the list. Just a terrific package in every respect. I invested 1,000 rds to try this gun out and it performed like a Champion, not one single failure with all kinds of ammo. Just love this gun. Later bought a Toro Slide to go with it. Cost only $149.00. Mec Ger magazines are top of the line quality. Bravo to Taurus, they obviously wanted and winner and they did just that.
Same. Nothing in particular jumps out at me compared to the G3C. In practical terms, it's only a half inch smaller, 3 ozs. lighter, one less round, and a two-finger vs. full grip.
I'll wait for the GX4 T.O.R.O. They probably did this by design, they sell as many as they can with out the T.O.R.O. system then get the same people to buy with it.
It only took them thirty years to get rid of the thumb safety :P a full-size T.O.R.O version with included suppressor-height sights and a pic rail would absolutely *murder* the competition.
My EDC rotation is the Canik TP9 SC Elite, S&W MP 2.0 Compact and the Taurus G3c. I like the look of the GX4 but don't understand why it didn't come optics ready like many of the Micro's (like the Ruger Max-9 and S&W Plus) especially since they already came out with the new Toro series. 🙄
R. Parker If you follow Taurus marketing methods then like the G3c and later the G3c TORO, it is safe to assume a GX4 TORO later. They want to offer the standard pistol first and then the options pistol after. Its a cost decision. The GX4 basic price followed by a GX4 TORO increased price.
I'd expect a extra optics cut to cost more than 392. The new shield plus is asking 500. I bought my shield 3 years ago for 320. If m&p is jacking up their prices I'd expect them to do the same.
Good video 👍 . . . . The price has come down a little, I just bought one at Sportsman’s Warehouse (a chain of stores out west) for $330.00 . . . Good gun I like it very much
That's a good question but that little dot is a little expensive for what you get to me may have a different outlook once I get some time on one though
Very good video! Informative. Not a Glock or sig fan and Taurus has kept me happily armed for better than 20 years now. Bought first gen millennium still wondering where this bad reputation came from. Before that it was Colt or Smith& Wesson Browning. I just purchased my first 2 Rugers. They are so similar to Taurus early models yet they are loved. Hmmmm Anyhow just got the firearm you are speaking of. I’ve looked at and appreciated all available new products in this tinynine genre I like Taurus the best. It did what everyone else was trying to do! I might be the person who coined the name TINYNINE! Hope I’m first thus far Taurus is the last word in the TINYNINE GENRE.
I know what you mean. My edc is the pt111, and has been flawless. However, there's just something about this one. 8oz lighter, smaller, and looks a lot like my TX22, with the same texturing, and which is phenomenal! But, this one screams EDC!

The G3C, when it came out had all that empty real-estate on the top of the slide just Screaming for a optics cut. Took a Year to release the TORO. This GX4 is exactly the same way, vacant space on the slide! Why Taurus didn't go TORO out of the gate, is beyond me. Same with a Pinky Rest, why wait to get what should have been in the box from Jump Street!
Bought a smith and Wesson shield plus performance center and got a great cardboard box. Could have bought two or three Taurus for that price and would have got a nice box.
I like the cardboard box. I throw em away. Less clutter. I have 79 plastic boxes which take up space in one closet. I have a shelving racks in my gun safe which allows 20 pistols in a row. That allows for a quick view and access. Plus cardboard boxes help keep the price down. Maybe they should give an option.
More gun makers competing in the market is GOOD, for all of us. If these small guns get the hesitant out there to start carrying then, hey, good deal. I do still know some good folks that do not carry. Their excuses? Got take a class and pay for a license. I live in a safe neighborhood. Yeah, but... You know these folks too. Just my opinion. More choices is always a +.
I'd bet Brazilian Real to Swiss Francs that the Taurus doesn't have anywhere near the reliability or durability issues the early P365 had, and people will STILL say they prefer to take the "more reliable" P365.

That’s just scummy FFLs you’re looking at. I’ve never even came close to paying full msrp for a Taurus even with ammo shortages. I paid $210 for my tx22 and $220 for my g2c
After 200 rds I am not impressed. Its marketed to rally against the p365. They're Fing dreaming. Its Brazilian quality thus $100 over priced. It's my 4th Taurus in 6months. They should all run under $300 until they improve their quality. I can purchase G43x & Caniks for less than $400. Have you heard anything about Canks micro release date?
The micro-9 is not a good concept. This sized gun should be chambered in .380, .32ACP, OR .45ACP. The marketing gimmick is to convince people that 9mm is the bare minimum for self defense and sell new people guns that have prohibitive recoil. Most new shooters who buy this gun will either A.) not shoot it enough because it is unenjoyable, and therefore they will never have to send it in to get repaired. OR B.) buy something else. Either a different gun entirely or the lego piece magazine that actually gives the gun an adequate grip. You shouldn't have to buy a special magazine to make the gun shootable. That is such an obvious marketing strategy. If this gun was chambered in .380, it would be perfect for all novice to intermediate shooters. If this gun was chambered in .45ACP, it would be a one-hitter quitter so the recoil wouldn't matter as much. I'm thinking a Kahr PM45 style gun. 9mm micros look excellent on paper, especially if you have convinced everyone that 9mm is the bare minimum for adequate self defense. But, these arguments about 'muh spec sheet' and 'muh total package in a micro' are mere abstractions. Real life with a gun that small, you want .380 or even .32 ACP. As for the reliability, it will be interesting to see if it runs non-premium hollow points and interesting to see how those hollow points perform coming from a 3 inch barrel. If the gun is finicky with certain common nose profiles, and/or needs a heavy 'micro carry' hollow point (147-150gr) to give adequate performance, I'm gonna go ahead and say this gun is a total no-go.
This is big loser as this is a big misstep for Taurus with a short grip and a non optics ready slide. Sig retrofitted their P365 with P365 XL with an extended optics ready slide and grip. I guess that Taurus was focused on making a cheap good pistol instead of something better in the market. Good is the enemy of better.
AN EXAMPLE - comparison between *_Taurus & SIG_* by Logic: A wash - Round count is irreverent pass 6 or 7 bullets as the average shots fired in all self-defense is 2 to 4 shots (FBI data) SIG P365 is better - higher quality, known reputation of being reliable & accurate pistol. SIG P365 is worse - being higher end = higher price so poorer folks & low income individuals can not afford it. Taurus GX4 is better - low price is great for the poor so now they can defend themselves too like the general public. Also, should Glock sue? being a copy of the Glock 43 (by ---stealing--- _borrowing_ Glock R&D) it should be more reliable than most Taurus'. Taurus GX4 is worse - Taurus has a bad reputation for unreliability & very, very poor customer service. The Taurus GX4 is lower quality than the SIG (point one). The Taurus will have *lower re-sell value* than the SIG. The Taurus copies Glocks R&D as said so it should work. _But_ why not just get the original (G43) instead of a copy cat (point two). *NOTE:* (opinion) This emphasis on the trigger of CCW guns & non-competition handguns is _ridiculous._ Will the very small difference in how a striker fired trigger works make a difference is the high stress event of a self-defense shooting. Will it even matter for anything if you actually use the gun, practicing to *_learn_* the gun. There are no good or bad triggers in CCW or self-defense. There are triggers that need to be _learned._ And that learning should take a week if that. Happy Father's Day

Cool but I’m sticking with my Glock 19
AN EXAMPLE - comparison between *_Taurus & SIG_* by Logic:
A wash - Round count is irreverent pass 6 or 7 bullets as the average shots fired in all self-defense is 2 to 4 shots (FBI data)
SIG P365 is better - higher quality, known reputation of being reliable & accurate pistol.
Happy Father's Day
🔥👌💪💯
I've had some Taurus handguns. If you want a range toy, great. If you want a tool to protect your life, nooooo no noo noooo.
I own a couple of Taurus pistols and they run like clock work. Good bang for the buck
Uses Glock sights
