    While I may not completely concur with your stance, I hold your knowledge in high regard and am a fan of your videos. From my experience, applying high nitrogen at the season's end (winterize step 4 for some) has proven effective. It appears to thicken my lawn and maintain its greenness throughout most of the winter.

      Nitrogen application at the end of the year for cool season grass is very beneficial. It is the most important application of the year for cool season grasses. That being said, main point I was making was the "blitz" is unnecessary. Really several "UA-camers" have made a video about that is more about click bait than agronomics.

    I did the blitz. I used the def urea. I put 20 ounces in my sprayer one time. Then i went up to 40 ounces in my 2.5 gallon sprayer went over my yard 2 times with it. I also put other stuff down too. Sea kelp, humic, iron, some fish fertilizer, some stuff save a tree i got its a molasses type stuff. Other micro nutrients. I sprayed every week watered the same and mowed 1 or 2 times a week. Its now to cold in the 20s and 30s at night but my yard is dark green. Ill still put stuff on yard till snow comes again. The last 2 times i used a hose end sprayer for it and just watered it in a little after. I overseeded in September so just tried to get it growing good before the snow comes. Will see in spring time how it does.

    I appreciated the video. As a lawn care provider, I want my client's lawns as gealthy as possible as long as possible and as soon as possible in the spring...I will be watching your fall fertilizer video...I recommend an early spring, late spring + early fall and late fall application of retail type products...seems to be working...I tend to do 3 + 3 or 4 + 3 for my own lawn - but then I am mowing 3x per week and that is TOO much growth for weekly clients...all the best! Cheers

      As I mention in my videos I am old school and do mostly granular applications. Do you apply all granular products or are you also applying foliar applications as well? I have found the simple solutions products on Amazon that seem to be at a good price point and a quality product. I am looking for other options to try out for possible recommendation in my videos.

      @@GregPhillips.22 if your comment was for me sir - I am using the 'KISS' principle...I am strictly spreading granular and honestly using large format Scotts MAX in the Spring/Summer and early Fall with their Fall/Winter lawn food for my late applications...mostly due to ease of purchase in the right quantities without running out of something niche or having so much on hand from season to season (I am just a solo operator)...But - I have found using these simple 2 + 2 applications really improved the health of client's lawns...I have seen the UA-camrs who applied DEF/urea as a hose end 'quick hit' booster and will consider it on my lawn...but tbh...I am pleased with the ease/simplicity of granular application that hasn't left stripes/burn patches etc - one thing if it happens on my lawn...but it's hard to regain client confidence if you screw up on theirs...I am in and out easily with minimal time/equipment and simple computational margins with the current process of fertilizing...I do appreciate your technical expertise and will continue watching! Feel free to comment on my very rudimentary 'how to' videos/comments..
      Have a blessed weekend!

    This works! It has to be done in the fall with cooler temperatures. Good video.

      Thanks for letting the group know! What fertilizer did you use? How often did you apply and how was the mowing issues. Any other things you would like to let folks know about your experience?

    I spray weekly during the blitz, but only 8oz of AMS or 4oz of Urea and micronutrients. I also monthly do a granular. Use PGR to slow down the top growth and promote tellering and root growth. Works well after my overseed started to establish. It's only rained here once in 2 months so that's not a problem.

    • @GregPhillips.22
      @GregPhillips.22  Місяць тому

      The PGR is a great idea and IF I were to do something like this I would also put out a PGR as well. Usually Primo Max. Thing about it with residential lawns it comes in a 1 gallon container with is enough for several acres. Much more that what a homeowner would need. Using PGRs in the spring is a method I used on golf greens to suppress topical growth and seeded production in any poa annua I would have on the green. What kind of PGR are you using?

    Great tips. To be honest I’ve never heard the term Nitrogen blitz until recently. Probably thought up by a UA-camr trying to make a buck. Nitrogen works but you don’t need to blitz the grass. Keep the vids coming sir. I’ll be watching.

      Thanks and ya I totally agree. Think someone made a UA-cam video on this got a lot of clicks and others followed to get the views. All the advice seems to be the same on these blitz videos. I could make many more of these types of videos an about other questionable advice. In this case, I have had folks ask so put something out. I don't want to come off like a jerk to other UA-camrs or start a back and forth with someone. Just not my style but there is a lot of bad advice out there.

    I dissolve urea in water and spray my yard versus put out the granules. Much more consistent application each time.

      Thanks for sharing! How much do you put out in an application? What is your foliar N/1000 and do you immediately water it in?

    Hello Greg, great videos and definitely learning alot from you. Question, I overseeded with Jonathan Green-Sun and Shade also included Greenview Fall Food not a starter fertilizer. Its been a month already, Is this okay and what's next?

    • @GregPhillips.22
      @GregPhillips.22  Місяць тому

      Not sure what the analysis is on the Greenview so not sure how much Phosphorus you added. This is the perfect time of year to do a soil test. I have a video on it. You can get the results back before thanksgiving. If you need a pH adjustment particularly if it is an increase where you need. You can do a lime application you can make that happen this fall and be ready to rock in the spring. It will also let you know how much potassium and Phosphorus you need. ua-cam.com/video/taIkfIuNcXw/v-deo.htmlsi=_a-4wT67_ilxRqL-

    Love your videos Greg, can’t thank you enough. Quick Question, any advice for a guy whose lawn is full of Chamber Bitter??

      For St augustine and Centipede Atrizine would be the way to go. Amazon link:
      a.co/d/56NhHIf.
      As for most other grasses.
      For hose end adaptors
      a.co/d/gGRm4kL
      For all grasses Speed Zone is good this time of year. It works on nearly all broadleaf weeds and it works well in cooler temps. Your Chamber Bitter may be fairly mature right now so it may take two applications 30 days apart to wack it.

    I belong to some fescue groups on FB and the green blitz is a common thought that is brought up I don’t believe in them thinking that the high nitrogen is just going to spike top growth while I am more concerned getting the grass especially any baby grass I have from over seeding ready for winter. I prefer a fertilizer of a 4/1/2 ratio of N/P/K. I will be applying a 16/4/8 fertilizer in the around Halloween I live in southern Virginia right on the North Carolina border

    Great points, but is this really an issue with fall nitrogen blitzing as a concept or an issue with using 46-0-0 urea? Wouldn’t all of your points not apply to 24-0-0 ammonium sulfate?

    • @GregPhillips.22
      @GregPhillips.22  Місяць тому

      Overall think this is a UA-cam thing that someone made a video of got a lot of views and others followed as click bait. It is just unnecessary to do. Plus causing a great deal of time to execute and possibility of loosing grass to an improper application method. My opinion just not sound advice. To your question...You likely wound not have the coverage issue with 21-0-0 or 24-0-0 like you wound would 46-0-0. The other issues you wound have because all 3 are 100% water soluble sources. So the burn potential, high growth issues are still there.

    I don't listen to those people who try and sell product. Usually the gems are with the people with crappy cameras and crappy production who are worth listening to because usually they're the honest ones and not trying to make a quick buck.

    Nothing wrong with 46-0-0, I spoon feed it with a hand held spreader. As long as you know the size of your lawn and weigh out the product, you should be fine. There is less room for error, but no need to buy liquid fertilizer or whatever fert salespeople are pushing.

    The problem with mowing 3 times per week in the Fall is that it gets dark earlier and earlier and theres just not enough light long enough after work to mow.
