      I felt this as they retired the red bullsnake female. The baby's were all fine, she was "only" serverly eggbound. Could have been a fluke, but they wouldn't take the risk of the mothers health for some future baby's, so she was also adopted into a pet only home. This is the kind of responsibility I love to see in any kind of breeders!

    • @lulumoons8125

      Nope since all snakes are cold-blooded then it will not matter since they draw their heat or cool down from other outside temperatures

      I personally don't own any scaleless snakes, but from what I've heard, there is almost no difference between scaled snakes and scaleless snakes other than the obvious scales. If I remember correctly, there has actually been full grown adult scaleless snakes found in the wild. If they were able to survive until adulthood being a wild snake, I feel like they are pretty well off in captivity.

    • @mpk6664
      @mpk6664 2 роки тому +25

      They still need heat due to being cold blooded, but different species are better/worse for scaleless. Scaleless corns are fine, but scaleless ball pythons have issues.

    • @houndgirl7365
      @houndgirl7365 2 роки тому +36

      It depends on the species. Ball python scaleless don't develop scales on the belly, so ethically it's wrong to breed them because there are no protections on the belly leading to increased potential for health issues. Ball pythons also if I remember right need a bit extra care and don't live as long when scaleless. From what I've seen with these guys and what Emily and Ed has shared the care for scaleless rat corns are the same and they don't need any extra care. It depends all on species as each one is different.

  • @Just1Nora
    @Just1Nora 2 роки тому +62

    What an adorable spicy nekkie noodle! I don't think Emily's baby sniffing is weird. Most parents of human babies sniff their babies heads and humans make all sorts of positive associations with smells.

    • @catpoke9557
      @catpoke9557 2 роки тому +9

      I always find it so funny how human parental instincts get triggered by completely non-human animals. It really is crazy how humans do something so counter-intuitive as caring for and raising an entirely different species haha

    • @Just1Nora
      @Just1Nora 2 роки тому +9

      @@catpoke9557 We've observed the other great apes do the same thing. Both male and female gorillas have protected and nurtured human children that have fallen into zoo enclosures and been injured. Coco raised a kitten. Even some of the lesser monkeys will adopt babies when the mother dies or raise babies of another species. It's kinda just a primate thing. Yes, there's always exceptions.
      I type this with difficulty because I have a purry furry belly up on my lap and belly kneading his feet in the air as I rub his chest. Is he my baby? One of em.

    • @Just1Nora
      @Just1Nora 2 роки тому +1

      @@PKBitchGirl While it may not be a different species, we have a herd of deer that bed down in our yard frequently and the deer have a younger unmated female that becomes the "babysitter" while the mothers get some time to themselves.
      Also, the fact that the deer sleep in our yard, right next to our trees and house, because they know that my dad and I won't harm them is pretty impressive as well. Before they started sleeping in our yard the moms would just occasionally leave their newborn fawns right next to our front door because they knew that it was safe. Dad still had cataracts, though even people with good vision might not see a hidden fawn, and tripped over one in the leaves once and was so distraught when it ran off. The mother did find it that evening, so there was a happy ending.

    Can someone explain why intentionally breeding a scaleless mutation is desirable?

    • @Rebster

    • @softsounds8453

      Same reason people breed merle dogs or sphinxes. They like the look. I don't think being scaleless hurts the snake though I've seen people in the comment section say that it depends on the type of snake.

    • @bubbajenkins123
      @bubbajenkins123 2 роки тому

      @@softsounds8453 it makes the snake much more susceptible to some medical conditions. Therefore, intentionally breeding them to have this mutation could be considered animal cruelty if they end up suffering from those conditions.

    I love you guys, but I can't help but fel a bit awkward watching this video.
    At the end of the video, you set up the baby ratsnakes next to the bin of the giant hognoses. How come were the giant Hogs setup first when they hadn't even peeped when the ratsnakes were out ? Why was the fuzzy stuff on the coark in an almost bare enclosure ?
    When did flies ever get the chance to lay eggs on the bad egg ? Why and how long did the three living babies have to live in the same box as the maggotty egg ?
    You will probably never answer or even see my concerns. I know you love your animals, I hope I'm just overthinking things.

    • @ashleyduran6455

      My best guesses for your questions:
      1) They don't upload videos in the exact same order as they record them. Often times they record multiple videos in a day as well. That's why we are seeing the ratcorns after the hognoses uploaded. And they take clips from multiple days/weeks of recording to make a video.
      2) Like Emily mentioned in the video if someone didn't properly sanitize the wood before use its not impossible for random molds/fungus to grow on it even in a bare enclosure.
      3) It's possible a gnat got into the pepsi incubator when it was opened and chose to lay eggs in the open egg. Gnats love that kind of environment.
      4) Gnats life cycles are pretty fast and short and incubator temperatures can speed up that process. I doubt they were in there with gnats n stuff for very long. It's entirely possible that the maggots/larvae didn't start emerging from the egg until the day they recorded the video. I'm sure if staff noticed beforehand they would have removed the egg/babies. Having gnats when you have reptiles is pretty much an inevitably especially if you use dirt based substrates so they probably also didn't think much about a couple gnats flying around and didn't expect them to lay eggs in the cut egg either.
      I hope this kinda helped cleared up some of your concerns.
      (Edited to clarify things better)

      @@ashleyduran6455 You answered most, thanks =)
      But about the hogs, I wasn't talking about the video schedule. In the begining, we see the ratsnakes out and hogs not even peeping. At the end the ratsnakes are setup next to the hogs who were already housed. (so the baby ratsnakes weren't in a proper setup in a while, when the giant hogs were taken care of pretty much immediatly)
      It left me with the impression there was a clear favoritism and the ratsnakes had been forgotten, especially with the unlucky wood and maggot situation.
      But I guess with the info you gave me, plus the fact they're running a huge facility and all, it's most likely coincidental. They've shown time and time again just how much they care for every single of their danger noodle !
      Thanks for your answer, it did help clear up many worries I had =)

    • @ashleyduran6455
      @ashleyduran6455 2 роки тому +1

      @@jhepadidaymaypamoa5172 Ah I see what you mean now with the ratcorns and hognoses. I don't think it's a favoritism thing. A lot of the time if they have eggs that haven't hatched yet with the rest of the clutch they will leave them in the incubator another couple days after cutting the egg to see if will hatch on its own. ("Incubate until there's no debate" sorta thing since they don't want to pull the baby out of the egg, mess with it too much, or toss it too early) Most likely during that waiting period the all hognoses hatched (they hatched within 2 days) and were able to set them up sooner since they were all out.
