  • This is a run down of the gear I carry daily. Pack weighs in around 55 lbs and can sustain your needs for 2-3 days easy. In order to know what it is that your need or what fits you, you’ve gotta get up and go train! You will not do anything just by having watched it on UA-cam. This is a baseline for your needs. This is simply what works for me as Iv used this gear for years. And while it’s high end gear and no you don’t have to buy what I buy but i see it like buy once cry once. You want gear that’s proven. Especially if your life or the life of your family depends on it! So get up get out there and work your gear and your self! Get to training!
    We will not rise to our level of expectation but rather call to our level of training.

    Very good and I really like the fact that you point out that this loadout is for YOU and your skillset. Different needs for different folks!

    Well said, well put, and very well done. And what you said...that's so amazing. Most people buy "stuff", but they never test it out. It's all in the wrapper still.

    One thing I love to do is, that the twine those landscape guys use when they’re putting down pine needles, I like to get as much as I can get and use it instead of para. I have a piece tied to ferro rod to keep from losing it. It’s free

    The bottled water is what I’ve got to practice. I will add that to my bag.

    50lbs no problem at all for most grown men, but that is a significant hit on your endurance, considering you can run a setup around 20lbs with the exact same capabilities. I'm an ultralight backpacker and rarely carry more than 12lbs for 2-4 day trips, however I don't often have more radio capabilities than V/UHF and satcoms, but I do carry a full size tent. Add the HF box, toughbook, antennas and connectors, and you shouldn't be past 20lbs. Also people really underestimate celestial navigation, learn it and save weight. Grayl and tablets for redundancy should be fine for water processing.
    All the radio equipment seems fine if that's what you're doing on your trips... if not then just keep the good one and your emergency satcoms. I have a similar pack and I got it up to 30lbs with my massive scoped 308 with ammo and a deer cleaning kit, also had it setup for advanced radio capabilities but that was 18lbs, 12 antennas 5 radios for that one, RDF cage antenna too. So yea not totally familiar with what you do on your trips but I'm sure you can shave off 20lbs at least with 0 loss in capabilities

    I just received my bag today and I started packing it. I’ll use the 🖐️ c’s and move forward. I’ll implement some of your ideals but you couldn’t have stressed it enough, my bag is for me. And I do get out in the bush and use my bag. Thank you for your advice and keep rucking and rolling. ⛺️🔦🪚🪓🔪🪡🧵🥾🧢🎒👓🪵🔥🎣

    I know the Platypus don’t do viruses but iv had that filter for years and it is great, its gravity fed so you can get your 4 liters of dirty water and while your setting up camp it’s filtering into clean bag and if you want then you can put it through the Grail and it’s been plenty of water for the night for me many of times cooking, cleaning,Hygene, brushing teethe and of course drinking

    Maybe I missed it between cooking and other family things but I didn't see a blanket or a change of socks.
    Maybe your AO doesn't dictate those items either.
    You are 100% correct that people need to walk the walk-talk is cheap.

      My clothes are in the garbage bag towards the end. 2 of everything is in that bag. And right now it’s 60s at night so no blanket needed in my area. This will change come fall/winter.

      @@UnPavedExpeditions makes sense! I love my Eberlestock as well, mine is the older version in the weird Chicom digital multicam they had for a little while. I did slap two 6 liter Savotta side pouches on mine.
      Hands down a ridiculously comfortable ruck!

    Haven’t finished watching, but I know a few ultra-light hikers that have packs come in about 1/2 this weight and they go for a week. Their gear is specialized and definitely not as hearty as your requirements. This isn’t to disparage what you’re showing but, just agreeing. 55 lbs should easily get you 3 days in the bush. If you can’t carry enough for at least 3 days, you’re doing something wrong.

      It’s 80F here where I’m at. No quilt is needed. As I stated at the end. The pack will change as seasons change. In the winter I’ll pack a wool blanket and a swagman roll.

    I also have a ft-857d and want to get a powerfilm panel I will mostly be using js8call but also phone for NVIS. I’m struggling to decide on the size that I need any insight?
    I already have a 12ah lifepo4

    • @UnPavedExpeditions
      @UnPavedExpeditions  Місяць тому

      10w will keep the battery up while the 857 is in l receive mode only. Other than that you’ll be using more power than putting in at a given time BUT it will keep it topped off when your done using radio for say an emergency.
      Now if your into POTA I’d look at the 30w panel by Powerfilm.. it’ll keep it topped off while using on good condition days, it’ll also pack nicely in a pack for a hike too about the size of 2 xl Tshirts folded together.

    • @BobBob-il2ku
      @BobBob-il2ku Місяць тому

      Not into pota it will be used for targeted comms windows with known contacts & RX for information gathering.
      I was looking the 20,30,60 watt power films it’s too expensive to make a mistake buying the wrong one 🤦‍♂️

    • @UnPavedExpeditions
      @UnPavedExpeditions  Місяць тому +1

      Let me correct myself. The 10w charges .5a and the 857 at idle draws .68 by my records. That won’t keep up with it BUT it does keep it topped off. I like it especially for the weight. And I’m not gonna be talking on my radio 24/7 at 100w and deplete my battery. Especially in a certain scenario.
      Now the 30w is another go to that I pick for overnights and long camping trips. It will keep your batteries topped off along with anything else you have , cellphone, power bank, ect ect. It charges 1.78a by my records. If I could only buy one. I’d pick the 30w for your application.

    One thing I've recently added is a pair of safety glasses. I was recently hiking with my pack and went into the woods and got smacked in the eye with a branch.

      If you watch the end you’ll see the med kit there. It’s the IFAK case with a Red Cross on it from NAR. I didn’t get it recorded as I had it recorded and the rain fell out and I moved to the shop and lost track of where I was in the video. But yeah the med kits in the video. As I cover navigation the med kits right there.
