I play Halo Fountain in a tokens and vehicles Lita deck. With vehicles, you can just tap all of your creatures to crew the same vehicle and don't need to attack at all to get the win!
Void Rend is just wrong if you aren't talking Cedh. I run a crazy amount of Esper decks and Void rend is amazing everytime the amount of times people try to counter it is also hilarious and it gets around the extra cost for ward.
Vivien + wilderness reclaimation seems pretty decent. You have a solid chance of casting your 4 drop on one of your opponent's turns and it keeps getting better from there.
4:51 Platoon dispenser is actually insane if you're able to make more than one. I have one in that azorious urza deck that can copy artifacts and it's crazy, especially if you have cost reducers
I have the same deck (Urza Prince of Kroog) and it does so well! Also even paying 4 mana for a 3/3 is much better than a 1/1. Especially for all the cards that cost less for each artifact. It’s also a really cool if you copy it because then your drawing more cards more often.
Get most of these, Void Rend though puts in so much work in my higher power meta. We’ve got combos galore around here so being able to remove a key Malcolm, or even just a value engine like The Great Henge without fear of a Force of Negation or Fierce Guardianship is great
I dont think its fair to mention lands in talks about power or performance. Magic is pay to play and pay to win. Lands are a huge component to that. Half of the time you cant have a successful deck without dropping even more money, regardless of the power level/rarity of the cards you actually play
Obviously there will be exceptions for some of these cards. One is black market. This card generates shitloads of mana in my Shirei deck. If it doesn’t get removed by my next turn with a full pod I can easily have upwards of 20+ charge counters on it. I love black market, when it’s in the right place :)
Cunning Rhetoric is played because it discourages opponents from attacking you. It's not expensive, it can distrupt opponents gameplan and give you semi-card advantage. And what's important: You can play exiled cards as long as you control Cunning Rhetoric. You aren't forced to play them your next turn or something. You can literally wait entire game to drop something out of it. Sure, if you play it in later turns it may be harder to get a value out of it... but there are plenty of cards who have exactly the same problem and they are played religiously.
I reckon the sponsor is at 13:29. This is my first ever guess so hopefully it will be right. I feel like it would be too early before 10 minutes, over 16 minutes would be too late.
@@NitpickingNerds beginner's luck. I think I also worked out a way to abuse the dark lord sauron. Luxior, giada's gift from new capenna doubles the power and toughness of an amassed army, mauhur to double up single amass triggers and embercleave for trample and double strike, which I think could win a game. I agree with the cards in this video, they are good but not consistently brilliant from what I've seen. Keep up the good content!
I had a game where I was playing mono red Torbran with a hand full of creatures and enchantments, and the mono blue player at the table played Jin Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant. They felt real silly when they realized how much work their Jin was putting in to protect MY board presence that was burning everyone out of the game.
20:41 Vivien fits perfectly in two decks, Kadena (where you can cast one fre morph each turn and Vician enables caating them on opponent's turns for 3 mana, while maybe getting you more crearures) and in Varis, Silverymoon Ranger. Yeah, she isn't really useful in general but I'm glad she exists, haha!
I like Jin in my five color reanimator. Most of that deck is draw and discard spells along side reanimator spells. That coupled with the fact that I never have to actually pay his mana cost has made him do work for me. He was OK in my Koma deck alongside Kira, great glass spinner. I would try to get them out first to make, made Koma just that more difficult to deal with. Add in his indestructibility, and my plethora of counter spells and green spells that would give him hexproof made for a pretty bad time for my opponents
Vivien allows for some fun moments, flashing a Felidar Sovereign before upkeep, works as a support for Seedborn Muse and last but not least, Sun Titan can get her back.
Same here. Even though she's not the most popular green Planeswalker, I really enjoyed my time with her. Getting her down on turn 2 makes a lot of difference. Allowed our green beasts to gain some tempo and add some element of surprise to the plays.
I will say I have seen Black Market win games. If no one can deal with it, the second a lot of stuff dies you basically cast your whole hand and win. The other day I got 26 mana off it and totally crushed the table.
That card is insane both as stax piece and mana engine. I guess they are talking about casual decks cause if your deck is good black market is often 5 mana win the game next 1 or 2 turns
I use vivian as an extra copy of Leyline of Anticipation on my Kadena deck. That is one free creature every turn, so when you get your turn back, you have 4 or 5 extra dudes on the table, yeah they are 2/2 colorless with no effect, but you can morph them at any point, or play Vela the Night-Clad, and make them unblockable
I love Wand of Wonder in my Gadgets Zirda deck. Feels a whole lot better only having to pay 2 for it. Pretty much the whole theme of the build. Activated ability cards that are super cool, but usually just too expensive to activate to justify. But zirda just makes it that little bit better. And
you play halo fountain for the first mode when you have tap abilities imo, the fifteen is either gravy or a payoff for being able to convoke a huge board. Its not a good wincon, but its a good card.
The big upside of black Market IS that IT also trggers Off your creatures. In my aristocrate Deck it easiely adds 10-20 mana. But it also feels Like a win more card
If you play a card and it puts a target on you, that generally means it is a good card. If you play a card and no one cares about it, that generally means you are playing a bad card. A card that forces opponents to react to it immediately doesn't make it an underperformer. An underperformer is a card that doesn't alter the game in the way it was intended. When I think underperformer I think of things like Chromatic Lantern. Seems really good, put you really only need it if you do a really bad job making your mana base. Or Vedalken Orrey, also seems incredible but always seems like the first card you cut. If every time you play a spell and it gets countered every time, that can be a good thing because you can use it to bait counters and get something else out. You know how many times I've tried to Mana Drain something and got my Mana Drain countered? That doesn't make Mana Drain an underperformer.
When I saw Faldorn, I was ready to dismiss your credibility...But I was glad that you immediately explained her value as a creature in the 99, and not as a commander. Faldorn is the truth!
I actually love jin-gitaxias in my casualty based mill deck. Since I'm using it mostly for the doubling effect along. It usually performs pretty well the few times I've actually cast them
These are some pretty cold takes, especially in the times where they say a card is underperforming because there are other things at that cost or point of the game that are better. You can extend that argument to 90 plus percent of cards. Beezy in particular has a min-max bias. One specific example is when he said he didn’t want to be playing Cryptic Pursuit on turn 4 because he’s doing nothing else. That’s a perfectly fine play imo, bc from the next turn on you’ll be getting plenty of value
Void Rend is an all star removal in my Omnath, Locus of All deck. Thé can’t be countered comes into play almost everytime. Last three games, it’s removed the Jin Gitaxis you mentioned in this video, miirym, and a voltron with a ward enchant. It’s bonkers
I like running Void Rend in my Raffine deck since i spend the vast majority of early turns getting all colors to get him out then i have it for void rend. My pod also likes running a lot of counters. Its an all-star in my Raffine deck
Vivien is an mvp in kadena decks, because kadena lets your first morph spell be cast for free EACH TURN. Flash creatures for free and draw a card each turn is good.
Void rend looks really good...but... I bet it's the black. In my experience with 5 color it always tends to go green, then blue, then white, then a splash of black and red (unless you are doing dragons of course).
I use cunning rhetoric in my planeswalkers deck, it usually gives me 3 extra cards each round, but it is true that in other decks in which I have put this card, it does nothing relevant. I use norn's wellspring in my kykar deck, it helps me to put more variety of cards and effects and I feel that scry 1 every time I sacrifice a spirit lets me do more things in each game. In aristrocrats decks is just too slow.
I dont know what kind of pods you play in but if someone running blood for the blood god doesnt have a sac outlet to avoid a farewell screwing them over, they arent playing that style correct. And Jin Gitaxis is a lot harder to deal with if someone isnt casting non creature spells and wants to let it screw others over, theres not always a “team-up”.
For me it's Vision from Beyond. One blue mana draw 1. draw 3 if any graveyard has 20 or more cards. Surely it should be easy in the right deck to get 20 cards in a yard, right? Well, yes, but those decks are usually full of delve cards and similar things that use the graveyard, so it's actually not as easy- graveyards get empited a lot. bojuka bogs as well.
Bouncelands are better Temples. Both provide virtual card advantage, but the gains and utility (channel lands, cycle lands, landfall triggers, untapping, etc...) of bouncelands is much greater.
Vivien is amazing with any of the Glissas and Gitrog+Thalia. +1 for keyword soup that lets you swing and block with impunity, and you get to play combat safer since you can cast your other creatures eot without waiting a whole cycle to untap.
Agreed black market not generically good but is better than revel in riches in aristocrats decks where I’m sac’ing a few creatures a turn, I’ve produced boatloads of mana with it. Huge target for removal tho
I have had great luck with halo fountain. It allows me to attack with creatures and still have blockers in a casual Heliod deck. It also has creatures with useful rap abilities I can use it to reuse. Add in plenty of enters the battlefield triggers that happen when a creature enters play and card draw 8s useful. The win the game part is a trap. Ignore it. Amy heavy heavy white deck who can use random bodies that to turn their creatures sideways. Halo Fountain does work. Sucks outside of that. And trying to win off it is a fools errand.
I feel a lot of these cards are buildarounds. Each card that's not a legend is a secret commander in the 99 but again, you need the right commander for them to be awesome, and even then they're not the first choice for how you win with said commanders.
i had a baba lysaga deck put together a bit ago, felt really undwhelming. loved drawing all those cards but it always felt like i never got anywhere. dirdle and die.
For Vivien, her last ability let's you cast the exiled card as a creature, so anything you exile with her is castable with flash as long she stays. Still possibly not the best card.
I think you've misread the card, friend. You can't cast it "as if" it's a creature, only if it IS a creature. If you hit 3 noncreature cards, you exile one and that's it. You can't cast it. It's gone forever.
@@leonfriedemann9151 I have probably hit a creature once with her -2 in the few games I've played her. Flinging creatures at instant speed is nice but the loyalty abilities are underwhelming
Day 30 of guessing the Moxfield ad at 16:44 Edit: I ended up cutting Halo Fountain from my Myrel, Shield of Argive deck, because it was always an 8 mana win the game spell. I know that it's particularly good in Myrel because of their built-in protection, but still. I never really used it for the card draw, which was why I put it in the deck in the first place.
As it is still in over 40k decks on edhrec I’m shouting out Outpost Siege. Even with red being the real king of mediocre draw (unless you wanna wheel twenty times) it is so not good to have a variant Phyrexian Arena that can’t give a card until turn 5 and trades off the debilitating cost of 1 life for having one turn to use it. I run Laelia Blade Reforged who needs as much impulse draw as able and I’ve never liked it
I feel like they don't play the cards where they belong and complain that they are bad... For instance i play jin gitaxias in a blink deck, and he is a powerhouse, i won almost every game where it hits the board with ephemerate, cloudshift or essence flux in hand, or deadeye navigator in play. The ability to essentially reset its ability, fizzling a spell, and at the same time getting possibly another etb again is bonkers...
I’m will not stand for the Cunning Rhetoric slander. If you are against 3 or 4 opponents, the return on the investment is fantastic. It’s worth it without mention to the dissuasion to attack you in the first place.
i like to pair jin-gitaxias with phyrexian censor. After all, if i can lock at least 1 opponent out from casting spells, i have one less opponent to deal with
Jin Gitaxias is great as a commander, but pretty forgettable in the 99 in my opinion, unless you're milking both effects and are ready to protect him it's pretty middling
I disagree with the idea of black market being disappointing. Unlike revel in riches it counts your creatures dying too so running it in an aristocrats style deck is where it shines. Especially in mono black but if I'm in a black heavy aristocrats deck it's probably making its way in my list unless I don't need that much mana.
If you're paying more than 5 mana to get any Praetor into play, you're doing it wrong. Running them in the zone is suicidal, and not just cheating them into play is inefficient. Elvish Piper, Thran Temporal Gateway, Bolas's Citadel... Why would you ever cast them?
Gotta disagree with revel in riches instead of black market. If you play RiR its going to be removed or you will be dead the next turn. No one really wants to throw a removal on market. And espesially if you play aristo you will get that mana back the next turn, and then some.
Norn's Wellspring its ok about the scry, but Dockside Chief its kinda better on aristocrat because of the sac and the fact the dockside chief dont need the tap
idk, Vivien for me is just giving my creatures haste, with a nice ability to use either on my creatures, or with my top/SL and or Scroll rack...flashing bane of progress can fun ok lol

We’ve got combos galore around here so being able to remove a key Malcolm, or even just a value engine like The Great Henge without fear of a Force of Negation or Fierce Guardianship is great
Cunning Rhetoric might work in a Prosper deck. Less as an outright deterrent, more for value in an Exiles matters.
I legitimately run the majority of this list across my decks and consistently see great results.
I dont think its fair to mention lands in talks about power or performance. Magic is pay to play and pay to win. Lands are a huge component to that. Half of the time you cant have a successful deck without dropping even more money, regardless of the power level/rarity of the cards you actually play
If you think it's pay to win you should try proxying (if you don't already)
Cardboard game pieces shouldn't break the bank.
Obviously there will be exceptions for some of these cards. One is black market. This card generates shitloads of mana in my Shirei deck. If it doesn’t get removed by my next turn with a full pod I can easily have upwards of 20+ charge counters on it. I love black market, when it’s in the right place :)
Black Market does a great job in my Grist deck, every insect that dies lets me build up to a Torment of Hailfire or Craterhoof or something like that
Cunning Rhetoric is played because it discourages opponents from attacking you.
Love your guess, best guess of the day so far! Well thought-out, but the house always wins!
I like her in Seton as well
I like Jin in my five color reanimator.
I was about to go crazy when you listed Faldorn LOL
I love platoon dispenser in my token decks, it’s a good blocker, makes tokens, comes back and draws cards
With halo fountain you have to run a lot of mana dorks - ramp out big things, draw more cards to play with that mana.
Cryptic Pursuit is great in Anhelo, The Painter, because of Anhelo's Casualty 2 ability.
Hear me out, Halo fountain in Shorikai. Tap 15 pilots to crew Shorikai.
I'm really loving the chemistry now
Thank you!
Amazing vid guys, thank you so much 👍
I use cunning rhetoric in my planeswalkers deck, it usually gives me 3 extra cards each round, but it is true that in other decks in which I have put this card, it does nothing relevant.
I use norn's wellspring in my kykar deck, it helps me to put more variety of cards and effects and I feel that scry 1 every time I sacrifice a spirit lets me do more things in each game. In aristrocrats decks is just too slow.
I use Vivien in my Mono Green Omnath deck for the flash ability, primarily. She makes a big Omnath very hard to truly remove!
More amber content!! We love Amber!
Amber is the best nerd
I agree that Halo Fountain is Finicky, but I found it to be one of my favourite cards in my Ellyn Harbreeze + Haunted One deck.
On Halo Fountain I play it in group hug as a win con. Super hard to pull off but if I win, I don't kill people, we all just have a big party. 😊
Vivien is amazing with any of the Glissas and Gitrog+Thalia. +1 for keyword soup that lets you swing and block with impunity, and you get to play combat safer since you can cast your other creatures eot without waiting a whole cycle to untap.
Vivien champion of the wilds is only in my werewolf deck to build board presence so that it switches to night time on my upkeep.
I play platoon dispenser in my mono white Prowl deck. It does work. Definitely on the cuttable list though.
Agreed black market not generically good but is better than revel in riches in aristocrats decks where I’m sac’ing a few creatures a turn, I’ve produced boatloads of mana with it. Huge target for removal tho
Me: hey new nerds video.
Also me: im getting called out with this video 😅
Literally just got blood for the blood god and void rend in the mail
My Cadira, Caller of the Small deck LOVES halo fountain
I have had great luck with halo fountain. It allows me to attack with creatures and still have blockers in a casual Heliod deck. It also has creatures with useful rap abilities I can use it to reuse. Add in plenty of enters the battlefield triggers that happen when a creature enters play and card draw 8s useful. The win the game part is a trap. Ignore it. Amy heavy heavy white deck who can use random bodies that to turn their creatures sideways. Halo Fountain does work. Sucks outside of that. And trying to win off it is a fools errand.
I’m guessing 15 minute mark, for the moxfield ad.
I'm actually for real guessing, and I think the moxfield ad is at 11:00
I miss Joe but also loves Mia! The channel still great and my favorite edh Channel! Thanks Beezy, thanks Mia! Nice content allways ❤
the problem with Blood for the blood god is that when it does it work it makes you forget all the other times that it just sat in your hand dead.
I was about to throw hands when I saw Faldorn pop up lol
Void rend is better the higher the power level your group is. Removing a difficult commander without fear of wasting mana is great.
Cryptic pursuit is good with convoke and other cards that let you tap creatures for mana.
@@moonman103 oh... OK maybe I missread that, because otherwise the card is pretty awful 😅
@@leonfriedemann9151 I have probably hit a creature once with her -2 in the few games I've played her. Flinging creatures at instant speed is nice but the loyalty abilities are underwhelming
I run Black Market in my Meren deck and I always get a ton of value out of it.
Arnelo loves Cryptic Pursuit.
Day 30 of guessing the Moxfield ad at 16:44
Edit: I ended up cutting Halo Fountain from my Myrel, Shield of Argive deck, because it was always an 8 mana win the game spell. I know that it's particularly good in Myrel because of their built-in protection, but still. I never really used it for the card draw, which was why I put it in the deck in the first place.
Oh dang Myrel seems like the perfect deck for Fountain, especially if you toss in some vehicles
JGPT is really only great in 2-player formats. The second you have more than one opponent, people can just deal with him right away.
Vivien with Kadena it's a free card draw + morph each turn, so it depends where you put her
As it is still in over 40k decks on edhrec I’m shouting out Outpost Siege. Even with red being the real king of mediocre draw (unless you wanna wheel twenty times) it is so not good to have a variant Phyrexian Arena that can’t give a card until turn 5 and trades off the debilitating cost of 1 life for having one turn to use it. I run Laelia Blade Reforged who needs as much impulse draw as able and I’ve never liked it
The Moxfield ad will be at 6:21
Edit: Damn, Moxfield at 14:59.
Removal that can't be countered like void rend is helpful against cards with ward.
Void rend is a great card. Gets around ward, and targets any nonland
