UPDATE: Since the time I recorded this, a new malign Portent short story features the Seraphon being formed from Spawning Pools like they were in the Old World. Check it out here: malignportents.com/story/dying-star/
2+Tough So this means we have Seraphon conjured by memories of the Slann, in addition to those created by spawning pools atop the Seraphon ships? So now Seraphon armies can be a fusion of light-infused memories and real, flesh-and-bone Seraphon? Woah.
Just read the short story, thought it was cool and brings up a lot of possibilities! Brings a little more storytelling opportunity to an already epic faction. Having the summoned memories of heroes fighting next to the new saraphon creating their own new stories is an epic narrative to implement into an army!
I wish they incorporated the seraphon more into the current storyline. The battletome explains they are constantly fighting chaos on different fronts. Building relationships with the forces of order through the skinks. Living alongside them in the cities. And even protecting those cities before they realize there's a threat. The Saurus give a warriors salute to the stormcast whenever they meet on a battlefield. That's how much they respect the stormcast fight against the forces of chaos
The Seraphon are hilarious when you think about it. You got the Skinks who are these little Vietcong dudes who can tame the deadliest of dinosaurs, some can become wizards, and some are master assassins that can blend into the shadows with ease. You got the Kroxigors who are like 8 feet of pure crocodilian muscle and bulletproof scales that spend all day doing construction and getting swole. You then got the Saurus who are these masters of combat with thousands of years of experience under their belt and are basically SM combined with dinosaurs who are able to swallow a human wizard like a slim jim. Then you got the other dinosaurs which consist of: - Carnosaurs: T-rexes but with actually useful arms and a velociraptor killing-claw on all four limbs. - Bastiladons: Ankylosaurs with a massive laser on their back. - Troglodons: Simo Häyhä reincarnated as a theropods who don’t need eyes to headshot you with acidic venom that'd make Hove Fleet Gorgon jealous. - Stegadons: Triceratopses which can alter the laws of reality themself. - Ripperdactyls: Pterosaurs that got just a bit to comfortable with piranhas on one long winter night and whose resulting spawn got addicted to licking toads. - Terradons: Pterosaurs that took just a bit to much inspiration from Fat Man and Little Boy. - Aggradons: Raptors that make a Khorne berserker look hematophobic. - Raptadons: Raptors that are somehow as smart as the skinks, taking "clever girl" to a whole other level and are said to be connected to the literal Seraphon god of wisdom himself. They also act as paladins alongside their Skink riders. - Spawn of Chotec: Lizards who think that swimming in lava is a bit mild and breathe enough fire to put a dragon to shame, which of course is also acidic. -Etc. Taking all that into account, it makes you wonder what absolute beast could even hope to lead these things, and then you find out that it's an obese frog on one of those floating chairs from WALL-E. And you, understandably and rightly, chuckle at the sheer absurdity of the situation, until you realize that these especially rare Pepes are able to turn a continent inside out with just a flick of a finger and erase you from existence with a semi-conscious frog fart. God I love the Seraphon.
Its cute that They came back and all.. But when Thamurkhan rises again. History Will repeat itself for the seraphon . Theyre gonna Need a bigger boat to survive This time around
Seraphon lore is fantastic, great video! Two quick things to touch on; Saurus Sunbloods are also living ancient beings, not created by the Slaan. There’s a Sunblood guarding the Slaan in the latest Malign Portents story I’m sure you’ve seen. Actually even the description on the Games Workshop store for the Sunblood Model ( old Gor’Rok model ), eludes to them being survivors of the Old World. Speaking of that Malign Portents story. The Skink describes a great blackness consuming the stars, Death he blames for it. What do you think this could be?
Great additions, thank you :) As for the Blackness... well, we know that Whatever Nagash is doing is making a giant "Magic Funnel" maybe he is messing with the constellations themselves?
Hey Dough, I do think some of the stuff about Seraphon is going to be changed in the future (about how they are created). Some of the malign portents do talk about breeding pools/spawning pools of Seraphon and that the speed at which they are create affects their personality (in terms of aggression).
Great call. Here's the thing, to make this many videos I have to record them in advance. I did this series before that short story came out... and I covered the lore we've had for almost 3 years... which seems to be undone by a single short story with no listed author. Not sure how to resolve the two.
Easy enough. The Slann are meant to have magical powers at crazy levels, but are also very alien in how they do things. Let's not forget that at least one Slann has willed himself back to life! So maybe the particular Slann in charge of that temple-ship imagines the Lizardmen of old back to life in a very literal way - he magically creates the whole process, from birthing pools to aged warriors. Just like chaos daemons, the individual Seraphon are fully sentient and essentially alive - maybe to the level where they can survive the loss of their progenitor Slann. After all, Slaanesh is trapped where no-one can find it, but its daemons are still around. The Idoneth battletome even confirms that Slaanesh daemons are still immortal and can be re-summoned after their banishment, so it's not too much of a jump to assume the Seraphon have their own ways to keep on going.
The way I've resolved it to myself is that both are true until otherwise proven false. Some lizardmen are just memories made manifest while others were spawned from Old World spawning chambers in temple-ships. But who knows- the lizardmen always did get retconned all over the place in WFB.
The new edition will hopefully see the story surge forward plus the new Idoneth is going to hopefully get people like Archaon, Khorgus Khul and the like back up and with new books! Love the videos Duggie! Looking forward to all the new upcoming videos! Would love a wee showcase of your Slaves to Darkness army and where you plan on taking them ")
Perfect! I am looking forward to that plus any other re rolling 1's battle reports, they add so much to the overall diversity that you provide. Thoroughly enjoy the channel and the bell is always on! ")
Could you have a Slaan summon a specific warrior, send him on an independent mission, then create another copy of the same character? If they're just made out of magic, what stops a Slaan from resurrecting the same character twice? Also, do we know where the Seraphon were in the Age of Myth?
In the age of myth the Seraphon were travelling through the aetheric void lamenting the loss of the world-that-was. Dracothian called out to them and lead them to Azyr after understanding their story. They then created an empire in the skies of Azyr which are said to be like constellations of stars (not entirely sure what such an empire would actually look like though since its all allegory and symbolism.)
Good question with an odd answer lol. The basic warriors can be copied just like you said, however they lack the independent intellect to be any good on their own. In contrast, any seraphon that can act independently will likely be a character (like the Guard) who are wholly unique and cannot be copied more then once at a time. We'll explore this a little bit more on Wednesdays video :)
I am pretty positive that the whole seraphon being just memories is now basically proven false based on the newest malign portents short story. I could be wrong. Regardless, great content as always.
Great call. Here's the thing, to make this many videos I have to record them in advance. I did this series before that short story came out... and I covered the lore we've had for almost 3 years... which seems to be undone by a single short story with no listed author. 2+Tough hey, I get it. You are at no fault here. In fact I feel bad for ya putting out this crazy good video when alot of the statements regarding their existence/non-existence seem to be falsified now. You can't help that. Lol. In fact its a good thing. The seraphon can have personality now! Lore lovers rejoice!!!!!!!!!!!!!
agreed :) Im glad they seem to be bringing back more of the old stuff. Even if they merged the two: they are still formed out of magic but the spawning pools are what solidifies it into a being... I'd be happy with that :)
2+Tough perhaps it’s just a timing thing. The memories of the lizard men were used while the spawned ones were developing. Maybe it takes thousands of years for a spawn to develop.
If you really want a in depth video about the lizard men from the old world I'd recommend looking up Arch Warhammer's video this is a good follow up video to continue the story.
Hi, 2+ love the video for helping catch up with the AoS lore. Is there any chance you could put playlists in oldest first to make it easy to binge lore.
malign portents retconned them from being fully etheral to be beings of flesh and blood. spawning pools are back and they all live on aztec continent sized world ships in space.
Look up JumboThick, 2+Tough. He uses that same introduction background music for a fair number of his videos and for a moment, I thought I was watching the wrong video. He gives very good (and quite lengthy) lore analyses of Old World factions. You might enjoy it. :)
In my opinion the summons/memories thing knocks this army. It feels as tho "it was all a dream" is attached to everything. I'm waiting for bloodbowl Lizardmen. The idea of huge reptiles wandering around in the world and just living life is way more interesting than "*pooof* here *poof* gone! cause dreams!"
Hey Doug my dude. Question on an older video for you, but what are your thoughts about how far off we are from a new Seraphon codex? I just picked up a bunch of Seraphon on an awesome deal to start a second army, which I'm excited about, but I am curious as to how long it'll take before they get a bit of apparently past due loving. I'd like to hear your thoughts. Either way I'm excited to play them because they're dinosaurs. And dinosaurs are cool. 👍
Hey there! I'm also excited for these guys to get some love, they sorely need it. Sadly, I am not connected in any way to the rumor engine side of things. No idea when a book would be coming :(
Hi Doug, I'll post this here as i'm not sure if you read the "Discussion" section. I've been reading the 1st book of the realm gate wars, but its hardly a page turner. I know you've talk about other book many times and listed some (but i too lazy to go looking for it ;) so,) i was hoping that you could drop me a list of some books. Many thanks
I'll copy my response here too in case you dont see it :) no worries Barry! The Realmgate Wars books are sometimes.... spotty. lol. My default go-to'd are Nagash: Undying king, City of Secrets, Spear of Shadows, anything in a battletome and from there it depends on what faction you want to learn about :)
I'm really just into good stories, i read Dead Winter, book 1 of the The Black Plague, and loved it, but almost impossible to find the other two. If the book is well written and "fantasy" then alls good ..
Hey man! I find the gods of Age of Sigmar really fascinating. I was wondering if you had any info on their relative power levels. Like, are the chaos gods more powerful than the mortal ones? Cheers
Hey Jye, great question! I'd need to think about that one. It seems initially like the chaos gods are more powerful... but in some stories it certainly doesnt not seem that way. let me think on that one a bit :)
So I really like the Seraphon as a faction. After getting into warhammer total war 2 im totally in love with them. I really have my problems with the basic models. Looking at all the newer model's that GW released recently the skins and other line infantry really need a reboot... 🤔
Great call. Here's the thing, to make this many videos I have to record them in advance. I did this series before that short story came out... and I covered the lore we've had for almost 3 years... which seems to be undone by a single short story with no listed author. Not sure how to resolve the two.
"Sigmar cares for the lives of mortals. He wants independent liberty and freedom and to choose your own destiny, to make a break yourself. It's what order is all about!" Looks at the dark elves and their slaves: Yeah, sure
do the slan have emotions now cause in the old world they and the lizerdmen in general were emotionless and focused solely on uncovering the plans of the old ones
The Lizardmen weren't emotionless, they were just incomprehensible in the way they viewed the World. Their emotions concerning the Skaven for example, created Sotek.
Man... as soon as GW reworks the Saurus Warrior models, I'll buy myself a Seraphon army... The problem is, that the Dinosaur models and Sunbloods/Oldbloods look soooooo much better than the basic Saurus Warriors, which makes them look even worse... :( That and that they all were basically all dead are the only reasons I started with the Kharadron Overlords. The one thing seems to get "fixed" for me with the spawning pools, so the only thing left is the rework of some models ;)
@@josephpolk9660 I really like the new designs and also the added "manifestation" in flesh of some parts of the Seraphon, but unfortionatly I don't play AOS anymore :D. At least for now. Nowadays I'm more into MESBG, which is kind of funny, because most of those models are very old as well, but I don't have a problem with that. These Models hold up much better in my eyes. At least the most :D
The newest malign portents story directly contradicts this, they have spawning pools in that. Either the author fucked up or their lore might be getting retconed for 2nd
Great call. Here's the thing, to make this many videos I have to record them in advance. I did this series before that short story came out... and I covered the lore we've had for almost 3 years... which seems to be undone by a single short story with no listed author. Not sure how to resolve the two.
I started playing AOS 3 years ago in China. And my first Army that I got was dark elves. My mate plays lizard man. And all I can say is f*** those guys. I think I have one maybe two games maybe three that I've played with him. They are just so so good in terms of points and what they can get and the way the Army works and moves together. It was so bad that I would encourage him to play his slaves of Darkness Army and tzeeche Army because if he played as lizard-men it was way way way too close to call.
2+Tough my biggest problem with lizard-men is just their point cost is so dang good. Like the example that I use is the source warriors on cold ones. I think they come in a box of 10 and for 200 points he gets 10 dudes to what my Drakespwan knights get for 5. Or he could take 15 saurus Warriors for what it cost me to take 10 Bleack swords. I think it's a great Army but points cost they're just so good in terms of everything that they can take

2+: "So why are these guys cool?"
Me: "Two words: Laser Dinosaurs."
I wish they incorporated the seraphon more into the current storyline. The battletome explains they are constantly fighting chaos on different fronts. I agree!
These guys always give me hope in the fight against Chaos
I like to call it the fight for chaos.
"You want the patient intelligent guy who has no emotions and has nothing but time to make plans on your side."
Well, they had Nagash.
Composer Viktor then Nagash betrayed them. But that's just how Bone Daddy rolls.
The Seraphon are hilarious when you think about it.

God I love the Seraphon.
Shame Kroq-Gar died. Would be cool if they released a new model of him where he's the last saurus left, and is an absolute monster in combat
Im still praying to the chaos goods to bring new seraphon models... wait I should look for new goods to pray to
haha
Don't worry, the Lizardmen have their own Blood god, called Sotek, you can try him.
Pray to the old ones
@Kivi nator. Pray to Sotek
Such a great army lore wise and aesthetically! Great video Doug!
thank you !! :)
Oh look a light lizard daemon faction sweet, also great video Doug
Great video. A very, very underrated army both in models and lore. GW needs to give them more love.
Loving the seraphon week!
Thank you so much Steven Lorimer! So Glad you enjoyed it!
I've been going back and forth with these guys. 2nd edition might be the stars being right for me to pull the trigger and go all in with the Dinos.
Dew it! :)
Its cute that They came back and all.. But when Thamurkhan rises again. History Will repeat itself for the seraphon .
Theyre gonna Need a bigger boat to survive This time around
hahahaah
One of the key differences the Seraphon have in regards to the other forces of order is the value they may put on the lives of other races.
So HYPED for this week!
Awesome! :)

Walter Black they had spawning pools in the old world too but i think that you havent got this thing about personality. Sry if iam wrong
I was just about to point out the same story! I believe it was called "Dying Star" in the malign portents stories.

Brother Doug these where great mini series, though I noticed that you do not really include the 5th Chaos God aka the Horned Rat. Cheers!
Hahaha well I’ll blame the books for that one ;)

14:05 that art is awesome
it was hard not to just shot that for 15 minutes lol. That and the Slann in space are my favorites
I'm buying the box of this, this year.
If you really want a in depth video about the lizard men from the old world I'd recommend looking up Arch Warhammer's video this is a good follow up video to continue the story.
Or MajorKill's videos on it, if you like your lore sexy and Australian.
it's gonna be a good week
Indeed :)
PUMPED FOR SERAPHON WEEK!!
Woot woot!
Hi, 2+ love the video for helping catch up with the AoS lore. Is there any chance you could put playlists in oldest first to make it easy to binge lore.
Can't wait to see the new lore
Right? Im pumped!
New intro? I really liked the other one lol...... Great video as always though!
just wanted to do something fun for these army specific weeks, I'll use the old one still :)
Seraphon week!!!!!!!! Whoohoo!!!
MEGA-WOOT!
malign portents retconned them from being fully etheral to be beings of flesh and blood. spawning pools are back and they all live on aztec continent sized world ships in space.
Look up JumboThick, 2+Tough. He uses that same introduction background music for a fair number of his videos and for a moment, I thought I was watching the wrong video. He gives very good (and quite lengthy) lore analyses of Old World factions. You might enjoy it. :)
awesome! At some point I'll grab a video card for my PC and join in on the Total War: warhammer thing :)
wait skeven also were able to no be wiped out because the great horn rat made a area that they could live with out being destroyed
In my opinion the summons/memories thing knocks this army. It feels as tho "it was all a dream" is attached to everything. I'm waiting for bloodbowl Lizardmen. they monster on the battlefield.... fun to play against.
Bring the RAWR to the yard ;)
Hi Doug, I'll post this here as i'm not sure if you read the "Discussion" section. I've been reading the 1st book of the realm gate wars, but its hardly a page turner. I know you've talk about other book many times and listed some (but i too lazy to go looking for it ;) so,) i was hoping that you could drop me a list of some books. Many thanks
I'll copy my response here too in case you dont see it :)
no worries Barry!

Memory is the key
Awesome !
Hey, Mr. 2+ Tough, could you give me a few good book titles that either fully focus on these guys or mention them in decent detail?
well they are still the lizard man with a different name I still like them
So I really like the Seraphon as a faction. After getting into warhammer total war 2 im totally in love with them. I really have my problems with the basic models. Looking at all the newer model's that GW released recently the skins and other line infantry really need a reboot... 🤔
These are great videos, thanks.
Just to clarify: theories aren't hypothesis. Hypothesis are speculation, while theories are hypothesis corrovorated.
Picture at 8:26. Upper Left corner. Is that a Star Dragon head formed of the emission nebula and stars?
Looks like it, could also be a representation of Dracathian :) No context is given in the book
Are they all seally dead? Cause you in malign portents story" dead star" it was shown how new searaphon are "born" in they way.
Great call. Here's the thing, to make this many videos I have to record them in advance. I did this series before that short story came out... and I covered the lore we've had for almost 3 years... which seems to be undone by a single short story with no listed author. "Sigmar cares for the lives of mortals. He wants independent liberty and freedom and to choose your own destiny, to make a break yourself. It's what order is all about!"
Looks at the dark elves and their slaves: Yeah, sure
What is Slann magick? Celestial based magick? Like drawn from the immesurable pool of fundamental universal powers and energies..?
Yyyyeeeesssss! The Leezards!
Have you done anything on Godbeast?
Not yet, but stay tuned next week for something special :)
did u do wow or other lore channelsa
do the slan have emotions now cause in the old world they and the lizerdmen in general were emotionless and focused solely on uncovering the plans of the old ones
We'll talk more about them tomorrow, but they are very emotionless still :)
The Lizardmen weren't emotionless, they were just incomprehensible in the way they viewed the World. Their emotions concerning the Skaven for example, created Sotek.
I'm confused are the Seraphon the people the Slaan remember or just imperfect attempts at copies.
People the Slaan remember.
Man... as soon as GW reworks the Saurus Warrior models, I'll buy myself a Seraphon army... The problem is, that the Dinosaur models and Sunbloods/Oldbloods look soooooo much better than the basic Saurus Warriors, which makes them look even worse... :( That and that they all were basically all dead are the only reasons I started with the Kharadron Overlords. That's a super fair point ;)
They got their refresh. How you feeling about them?
@@josephpolk9660 I really like the new designs and also the added "manifestation" in flesh of some parts of the Seraphon, but unfortionatly I don't play AOS anymore :D. At least for now. Nowadays I'm more into MESBG, which is kind of funny, because most of those models are very old as well, but I don't have a problem with that. These Models hold up much better in my eyes. At least the most :D
curious what happened to krog gar?
He is alive but we don't see much of him
Ha! a *dream* team...
...I'll see myself out.
YEAH! I love it!
Thank you so much Alex Chavira! So Glad you enjoyed it!
So did the regular Lizardmen (Skinks, Saurus, etc) die on The Old World with only the Slann escaping?
Lizard bois are cool!
Indeed!!!!
So wait if these guys were created by the old ones does that mean age of sigmar is connected 40k ? (Pls forgive me if this is already super obvious)
thier backstory seems to be changed, as there is no mention of the Old Ones in the book really
tyranids are evolved lizardmen lol
The newest malign portents story directly contradicts this, they have spawning pools in that. Either the author fucked up or their lore might be getting retconed for 2nd
Great call. Here's the thing, to make this many videos I have to record them in advance. I did this series before that short story came out... and I covered the lore we've had for almost 3 years... which seems to be undone by a single short story with no listed author. Not sure how to resolve the two.
I totally understand that, forgive me if what I said came out harshly wasn’t my intention. We’ll see when 2nd comes out
Oh there's no offense taken! im glad you pointed it out :) lore is an ever-evolving thing and this is how we grow with it, thank you for watching!
I main slaves and my second is seraphon
I started playing AOS 3 years ago in China. And my first Army that I got was dark elves. My mate plays lizard man. And all I can say is f*** those guys. I think I have one maybe two games maybe three that I've played with him. They are just so so good in terms of points and what they can get and the way the Army works and moves together. It was so bad that I would encourage him to play his slaves of Darkness Army and tzeeche Army because if he played as lizard-men it was way way way too close to call.
awesome haha
2+Tough my biggest problem with lizard-men is just their point cost is so dang good. Like the example that I use is the source warriors on cold ones. I think they come in a box of 10 and for 200 points he gets 10 dudes to what my Drakespwan knights get for 5. Or he could take 15 saurus Warriors for what it cost me to take 10 Bleack swords. I think it's a great Army but points cost they're just so good in terms of everything that they can take
