    Seeing my secret hunting key I look for in every shot you have shown. Grows all winter long and provides symbiotic nutrients and water for the mycelium. Secrets secrets stay with me 😊

      Hard freeze a couple days ago put a hurting on them. Hopefully we’ll have a rebound fruiting.

      Here in the midwest we had 10 inches of snow. I think up here we will have a normal fruiting timeinstead of early. I hope your season recovers. In my experience as long as temps do not get too hot for too long morels can keep fruiting. Dips In temps can actually stimulate them to fruit more.

    Probably gonna be a bit before the weather straightens out here in Ohio.

      Yeah this is by far the earliest I’ve ever found them. And because of that they got zapped by a hard freeze two days ago. Hopefully they’ll rebound with another fruiting in the next couple weeks. Thanks for chiming in!

      @@RootAndEarth I was sure that we were going to see some early ones here too. For three days in a row in February, we had three days of high 60’s which is bizarro world stuff. My daffodils, tulips and crocuses started popping up, which is usually when I know that I’m getting within several weeks to a little more than a month before they are starting to pop. I try to keep my ear to the ground on what’s happening in my border states (Kentucky and West Virginia) since they warm up slightly before we do. With the weather being so hard to predict ( just like you had said, we too had a few days that dropped down into low 20’s, one day in the teens) then a frost sets in and killls off new leaf buds and early flowering.

      We typically find ours around the last week of April. I'm outside of Gettysburg, PA

      @@RyanKudasik I normally don’t find them until early to mid April, but rather than dates I watch the temperature trends. This year we had a two week spell of lows above 55 degrees and it set them off.

    You need to harvest your morels with a rigid air tight container so you can capture the spores for later use and not just let the spores fall through that basket. What a waste of good spores.

    • @RootAndEarth
      @RootAndEarth  Рік тому +1

      I collect in a basket for several reasons. One being to allow dispersal of spores though the suitable habitat that I move through that may not yet be hosting a good mycelial network, and the second is that keeping mushrooms in an airtight container for hours as I forage would allow for condensation to form in the container and on the mushrooms. This moisture combined with warm temperatures becomes a vector for bacterial growth and can contaminate a harvest. If you have a technique for using morel spores successfully for growing them I would love to see a tutorial though. Thanks so much for watching.

      @@RootAndEarth Correct on everything. You've already seen it. Collect them spore man.
