imagine the EU Council caught in this and made a law where all new laptops need to be modular like how phones need to have user-replaceable battery.
That's how you kill industries and competition
Small companies can't keep up if government force them
Regulations breed oligopolies / monopolies
Phones were planned to be modular by google with project Ara. This was like major event backed up by titan brand(s). Yet it's just a fleeting dream. Google who made android os couldn't make project Ara comes true.
@@trym2121it is not that they couldn’t but it Google likes to abandon things that get to complicated or won’t get them money quickly. Modular phones are great but it will mean less hardware being sold and that’s not good for business.
You either sell a phone for tons of money, or you sell the parts for tons of money. These companies are after profits, not user convenience and product longevity.
@@filip9587 all busineses are after profits, what's so wrong with that? lol

Honestly if one frame could last upwards 10yrs with necessary upgrades, we will achieve the dream laptop computer.
My MS-1762 (from 2012) is still doing its job as my main rig for everything, waiting for a good moment to get MS-1763 mobo and 4940MX since Haswell is pretty much bare minimum for gaming now, not to mention emulation. Just need to wait for a good currency exchange rate, so as not to waste money. As for graphics- P4200 is perfectly fine still. That's what happens when you make a fully modular laptop, big shots in industry hate it.
If the company holds, it will whatever the quality.
Even if everything broke frequently, since it's all replaceable, it would last 10 years as long as replacements are available.
Hope they don't break often tho, got one of the 13 ones right here and boy do I hope everything is reliable.
Gonna replace the battery as soon as the 61 Wh one is available tho
Having the same laptop for 10 years sounds like a nightmare
@@alex.mcintosh if it's BGA, then yes. That's assuming it'll even last that long. The one and only laptop in existence I would agree to upgrade to is X170KM, nothing else. Otherwise, I'll just stay with what I have. Plays everything I want at decent framerates, what more could I ask for? Yes, 144+ Hz is night and day difference, but by itself it's not worth it for me. And yes, X170KM can do 2K 144Hz.
@@alex.mcintosh why? You're upgrading or replacing every malfunctioning or obsolete part
Now this is sustainability.
This laptop's design philosophy to hardware is like Linux to proprietary operating systems.
Great analogy!
No it doesn't
@@reiniermoreno1653idk seems the closest analogy to me
I mean price wise, frameworks is just way too pricey but i guess a company with little employees cant exactly provide too much
@@hike8932 the price mark-up is because they offer the modularity and repairability I suppose and the philosophy is that they will get the upfront money from you and you will not be buying a new framework laptop in a long while, potentially ever. I think there is a video where their CEO explains this business model.
Well done to the framework team
He would have made it even in a little less than 1:32 if he didn't miss the 2 screws step.
well, he definitely read or watch the tutorial beforehand, and it probably took more than 2 minutes.
so just call it an even then
The video is sped up, the timer isn't.
But who cares, I would sell your mom to get one of these 😢
Gotta live with my Framework 13 Intel edition :p
@@Anankin12 how is the timer not sped up when the video length is 0:59? lol.
He screwed up. Happens.
@@MohamedAmin-fr3pbnice one
omg! I wish all laptops where like this! I want one.
Something something about eu law states that phone manufacturers will have to comply to being able to replace battery easily.
It already happens with Apple and their charging port.
If we’re lucky we’ll be able change more than a battery.
It would be a miracle if the eu would move to laptops
@@user-vs3gc4cn3t Yeah we will also have usb-c charging for all laptops but I hope phones and laptops get these implementation in the whole world instead of only the EU devices
@@GerryIsDeadusb c charging is not capable of charging alot of gaming laptops
@@moparjr89 Framework already has an 180W usb-c charger for their 16" laptop
@moparjr89 the new USB-C Power Delivery standards allow for 240W of power. This still isn't enough for everything but definitely enough for a lot of gaming laptops.
This will be my last laptop when I finally get it.
Me too, but then I only have 2 years to live.
/s
Laptops should all be like these BY LAW.
Be ready to pay at least 800 dollars for a new one if something ever happens to it, very rarely i know
@@imeakdo7 wym by 800$ for a new one, that's the whole point of the modularity that you replace whatever part that is broken
Why? If you like this one purchase it, why do you want to enforce any other company to do the same?
Maybe we could all decide "democratically" to ban every other laptop company and only be left with Framework, so all laptops are like this, right?
@@carlospp95Why would you want to be restricted to repair or maintain the very thing you own ? Why would less e-waste due to the anti-repair design, like apple does, be a bad thing ?
@@randoguy7488because they think that anything that protects us at the expense of corporations is bad for the country. Maybe it's because they're delusional enough to hope that they can get into the big club.
Great for a first version, in a few years this might be real plug and play :)
It's the second version i think
@@iamshanifit's first generation of the 16" gaming laptop. Their 'other' laptop (not previous) is Framework 13 which is intended for a different use-case/market.
@@earthling_parth right 👍
eGPU is already a thing
@@Angultra Well to be fair, I'd rather bring a plug and play GPU than an eGPU when I'm going out
It’s pretty interesting that I didn’t see any Framework laptops on eBay from a quick search specifically for one. Seems people really are keen to hold onto them.
They aren't very popular either just among us tech geeks, the average user doesn't see the point of this laptop only we do
it makes sense, because there's really no need to replace a framework laptop. If yours is too slow, you just upgrade the motherboard (or now GPU) and keep the rest
Better than some companies out there
Instead of doing this, laptop companies soldered the RAM into the mobo 😅😊
LP DDR must be soldered on. They consume less power on sleep/standby
It doesn't have to be soldered, these companies just do it BCS it's cheaper for them and makes them more money when the customer needs an upgrade. Also the battery thing is BS, there's no logical proof that makes that true
@@purq5513 LPDDR is always soldered on. There are still many thicker laptops with upgradable components though
This is so exciting. I'm right on the end of pre-ordering mine 😁
So you're OK with the price? It's pretty nuts to me.
@@IvoPavlikYes, because next upgrade I'll pay a fraction of the price of a new laptop
@@chic_luke I want to believe that. But only time will tell...
@@IvoPavlikits not that expensive and they have already supported the 13inch laptop on 3 cpu generations now
@@moparjr89 hmm, that's actually pretty sweet. I wish they guarantee some years or hardware generations officially though.
I hope this takes off. Id much rather a laptop that's fixable and upgradable than the current options
i would mind it soo much if high end laptops were given the opportunity to get upgrades from the manufacturing company(brand) itself.
I got a M1 MacBook Air and focus on storage since i am a big storage user so it was 500GB 8 default RAM. i was short on money then to spend another $200 for 1TB.
apple made this product unable to upgrade.
soo my conundrum is...if apple wants the $200 extra for 1TB and another $200 for 16GB Ram. I will gladly give them the money.
but I don't see why should I need to buy another laptop of $2500 when this laptop is fairly new and cost around $1,500.
I asked apple support if "hypothetically" my laptops storage and RAM were going out. can I have them repair both issues but could they add the 16GB RAM and 1TB as a upgrade. i will be willing to pay for the extra cost.
they told me "well, M1 laptops are configured up to 1TB and 16GB Ram. you will need to find a physical apple storage and ask."
long story short: i gave up on it.
i use more my buggie of a laptop Lenovo ideapad that I hotrod it with a SSD and 32GB ram. it keeps the same speed as my Air but obviously is limited by the cpu. hard tasks destroy the battery life. so I am in the look for a second laptop. i am abusing my Ideapad until it perishes.
Now this is how laptops should be
Man, the fact that i dont need to disassamble all the laptop body just to replace a keyboard is a plus
as technician i like this, upgradable hardware
As much as I love framework, the lack of water resistance is a dealbreaker for me. I just wanna be able to play league at the bottom of my pool
Who the hell brings their laptop underwater
What a beauty of engineering
Its like a pitstop.
Imagine EU council making this modularity as law but soldered on Ram still a norm. Skull 💀
in any case its better than what the market offers now
It will be a new speed run any % category
Very impressive that Framework's made this so easy. Hopefully this sort of modularity catches on with other manufacturers and becomes a standard on anything non-mac (because we know they would never)
I missed the intro about the modular laptop and thought you had just taken the fans out of a laptop and replaced them with a GPU
I mean, he didn’t not do that
it's not really about the speed atwhich you do the upgrade but that the upgrade path is available and the parts perform well. having a high efficiency setup with long battery life on hand that you could switch to a high performance module would also be an excellent option but needds to have the cooling to match with the requirement.
The fans and heat pipes were in the GPU, so that's totally upgradable.
this is the very opposite of apple products
I’m so exited to see where this is going, I feel like they might have the get their spot in the industry like N0thing
That gpu upgrading part recall me Ben 10 Ultimate Alien Making Machine
Speedrunning laptop upgrades could be my favorite form of content
Why have i not seen this type of laptop??
Have i been living under a rock or a goddamn island?
Framework is pretty much the only company with upgradeable graphics on laptops, the only other thing which could kinda do that is mxm gpus from years ago but cooling and support for them kinda killed them.
Seems like competitive laptop upgrading is a thing now 👀
As I bought my laptop framework was just in funding their first model.
Now I regret that I haven't waitet
How often and what options will there be for upgrade modules? Will we see nvidia modules? Is there a workaround for windows issue with new hardware? I dont think this will be sustainable if i have to buy a windows key every upgrade
wow all laptop should be like these
I heard the reviews and I want to know if the keyboard is good enough and how good is the display?
Thank you in advance for sharing your experience
So u already have the first few things ready or is that how that laptop is
Is there any other gpu options ??
they're still better than having a water cooled ssd from corsair
Will there be non-AMD GPU options for the Framework 16?
Hoe good is the 7700S?
I guess that’s cool. How long will they make new gpus for this laptop?
Bro reloded his laptop
In the 13 inch framework in the future can uograde the gpu?
I hope framework becomes availaable in my country
This type of product should be DEMOLISHING the competition!
That was a wifi card or did i miss something ah i see the gpu goes around the back side 😂
That is a different level!!!
Damn ur seconds fly by
what gpu use for changed laptop component?
This man sent in the wrong timeline he shouldve done earlier years.
-Hey apple
-What?
And theres some people who charges extra $200 for 8gb RAM upgrade! Which you have to cuz RAMs are soldered on to the motherboard.
love it! A bit more of a plug and play solution would have been nice. Perhap an external enclosure in the future via thunderbolt?
those are common place. Just an eGPU...
@@MerccreM15 a framework version would be great though.
can any other laptop upgrade their processor and graphic card?
Why Framework hasnt expanded to Norway is beyond me. I have a lot of friends that would love this.
You open your back pack and everything falls off
Please link to buy framework
It’s the ultimate Lego laptop💀
This is exactly why i want a framework laptop
One of those blink and you'll miss it video haha
Really nice but haven’t seen a single person so far with this machine. I absolutely love my MacBook but hate, that I can’t upgrade anything when I need to
Now that's a computer that's worth it's money
Imagine cpus having standardized slots, so you can plug in either intel or amd or whatever and it just worked. Like a pci-e or usb slot for cpus, and design it with 10x more lanes than needed so it doesn't go obsolete in a few years and make newer boards compatable with old hardware and nothing like this will be realized because companies need money.
The vid is either sped up or you are on some stuff😂
It's sped up but the end time is accurate
Only if laptops was this easy to repair on all of them.
U can upgrade gpu in laptop ?
is it possible to but laptop gpu?
I think my next laptop will be investing in Frameworks. Wont need to buy a new one for years
The only problem is the price.
its affordable dawg
@@natas74d71.6k is not affordable dawg... thats a whole Upper Range setup 😂
@@grump9283 im the typa dude to pay for 2 laptops ranging from 1.5k - 2.6k 😭
@@natas74d7your average consumer isn't lol
@@geekmechanic1473 yeah, something more like 500-750 dollars. My perspective has changed a lot over the past 5 months.
My dream laptop my friends always told me I was crazy as a kid for thinking up
this just broke my brain, like WTF.
Bruh that costs like 5000 dollars
???
Wonder how durable it is .
If only I have enough money and framework is available for order in our country
This would be great if the initial cost wasn’t so high😢
Apple: What sick monstrosity is this?
hey this real laptop.
I already know framework really well (linus tech tips)
We need this
But how much did it cost
And that is how you make in irrefutable point, nice!
That bezel is crazy thick
About as thick as on other brands, including MacBooks. It just looks thicker BCS it's orange and not black, which can be changed
Sadly not sold in my country.
Ok, I get the argument for modularity and upgradability, but next to an XPS 15 or a MacBook Pro this thing definitely isn’t winning any beauty contests
Yeah but if this laptop received mac book pro levels of funding it'd probably look better yk
@@Vondrool can’t argue with that
It's really cool. But honestly? I don't want the tiny gaps between the modular plates. I know I'm a picky bastard, but it's true.
What game was that?
When?
the term of "upgrade" is wide, it could be from not having one to have one, or replacing the older or slower with newer and faster,
its not wrong, buts feels off😂
I hope the speakers are a lot better than the 13.
yeah...i think i found my next laptop...
When you drop it down it will open like a LEGO
Screws: "Am I a joke to you?"
and you will put it all back as lego, instead of geting a new laptop
@@nikos_Manstill fragile as before but it comes together like legos
@@imeakdo7 not exactly, due to the fact of different modules combined,
i suspect it is a bit sturdier than a normal laptop but not by much
every laptop developer should lunch a laptop like this which we can only buy or upgrade GPU or CPU in the future but not to buy the whole new laptop.
Wait..! How can be shorts uploaded more than 60 secs...?🙄
The boot speed should be slower upon hardware change. Anyway the intention is faster repair and framework simply killed it. Sadly it's not available everywhere otherwise most OEM will be implementing this so as to avoid people jumping to new player in laptop market
Did everyone notice that the laptop playing a game no longer has a numpad?
It's not about speed, it's about attention to detail.
Damn. That’s cool. I like how it just comes apart.. and then the game graphics reminded me of a game along time ago can’t recall but it brought back a faint memory just the movement in the beginning game play.. cool stuff man.
it is possible if motherboard supports all generation cpus then its a peace of cake if only ryzen was in this market as old as nvidia it is truly ammazing they alredy competing with them
