    Hmm, a youtuber who is mature and has some real knowledge. Also i like how you replied to every comment. One question of mine also. Be honest and tell me your pov in thar vs jimny. Which is more capable offroader with same tyres and which can be modded more for off-road

    • @RoadsOfTheMountains
      @RoadsOfTheMountains  Рік тому +2

      Hi Trishal,thanx for the appreciation.
      Thar vs Jimny will always be a very sentimentel topic.However it always comes down to one's own requirements and needs which help in finalising the decision.
      See Thar is a macho looking suv,
      With huge road presence.It is more powerful also.
      Jimny on the other hand is nimble and agile.it has it's own appeal.
      The light weight compensates for the lesser power hence it is equally fun to drive.Thar is a T Rex,jimny is a raptor.
      Modding any vehicle depends on what extent you want to go to.people have modded their gypsies to huge extents in the past and are still doing it,same is with the jimny,it can easily be modded to huge extents.Thar owners have their own cult like modifications going on.
      Now it will always depend on your preferences that will help you to finalize the conflicting question.Take your time and observations to conclude.
      Hope this provides some clarity.
      Stay tuned and a subscribe from you would be sweet.

    Extremely helpful video. Pls share ur views on - Can we engage 4L during a offroad hairpin turn climb in Ladakh mountain passes? Since u already mentioned that the wheels should not be turned during 4H 4L engagement. What does one do when climbing hairpin turn offroad mountains?

    • @RoadsOfTheMountains
      @RoadsOfTheMountains  3 місяці тому

      Hi,thanx for tuning in.
      During the OFF-ROAD hair pin turns you can engage 4L or 4H without hesitation.The loose terrain beneath the tyres will allow for easy movement after 4 X 4 engagement.
      But on paved or metalled Hairpins it is not recommended to use this system untill one is extremely stuck( which will not happen on paved roads).
      So yes you can use the 4 X 4 system on OFF-ROAD hairpins in mountains.Go ahead worry free.

    I'm confused between AT and MT ?
    The purpose would be traveling around hilly terrain and when I took the test drive AT felt quite well balanced for the kind of ride. While the manual one was quite notchy. Did you felt any difference after riding couple of months?
    What would you recommend!

    • @RoadsOfTheMountains
      @RoadsOfTheMountains  Рік тому +3

      Hello Akash,If you want a relaxed driving then go for AT.well for me the gears are still notchy ,they are gonna stay like that only.It adds to the robustness of the jimny,in the sense of shifting feels.
      The manual has a extra gear,whereas the 4 speed torque coverter is a gear less but the ratios are longer so it compensates for it.
      AT is hassle free and comfy,MT is for more control and feels analog down to it's core.Rest will always be your personel preference mate.
      Hope this answers

    Very nice explanation, specially for a 4x4 beginner, I just have a question.... you said, when switching from 2H to 4H or 4L mode, steering should be straight, but if I need to use one of those systems on a particular scenario where the vehicle on a steep incline and a sharp hair pin bend is ahead , means , I need to take immediate sharp turn with 4H or 4L, then what would be your suggestion ?

    • @RoadsOfTheMountains
      @RoadsOfTheMountains  Рік тому +3

      Hi Thanx for the kind motivation.As for the answer for your question,what we need to understand is if it's steep and extremely curvy,you will only be needing to apply 4H or 4L if the conditions are on loose surfaces.In such situations we do not have any problems regarding damages to axles or any of it's components when we low grip situations.
      But if you negotiate any hairpin curve on tarmac road or a paved road,then it is prohibited to use 4 H or 4 L,as each tyre will have a different curving radius,the high grip will create a lot of tension on the wheels,thus the pressure for it's compensation travels to the axles resulting in damage to the axles.
      So 2H for the tarmac roads and 4H and 4L for offroads. Hope this creates a better understanding for you.

    How does the Jimny work with more weight?

  • @2dannygeorge
    @2dannygeorge Рік тому +2

    Totally new to 4x4 so 1 doubt.. after putting the gear to 4H or 4L in neutral, do we need to change the main gear to 1 before accelerating? Or the 2nd gear acts as a separate gear?

    • @RoadsOfTheMountains
      @RoadsOfTheMountains  Рік тому +1

      Greetings Danny,well what you need to understands is that the torque multiplication works only in 4 L. when in 4 high you need to accelerate by applying the 1st gear or else you will stall your engine.But when in 4 low you can easily accelerate by applying the 2nd gear even in moderate inclines also ,as the multiplied torque can easily handle the 2nd gear ratios without stalling the engine.Hope this answers.stay tuned and have a good day.

    Can we use 4H on a wet tarmac road for better traction?

    • @RoadsOfTheMountains
      @RoadsOfTheMountains  Рік тому

      Hi,You wont get any huge advantages out of a 4 H on wet tarmac,if it is a wet muddy road definitely yes you get use out of 4H.otherwise it is not really rquired on wet tarmac.AWD equipped vehicles get constant torque vectoring which helps them on wet tatmac to go through situations very intelligently.Jimny is plain n simple, use 4H only when required.

      Hi,your imformation is correct.
      But this one instatnce while uphill offroading i put my jimny in 2H fron 4H
      And inspite of that my front wheels remained engaged.They only disengaged after i neutralized my gearbox.Hence this imformation.
      I Have concluded from my personel experience that 2H to 4H on the go can be done while the vehicle is in a constant speed.When stationery it takes time to engage or disengage.

      Yes we do need to completely hault our vehicle if you want to shift from 4L to any other selection.Atleast in the jimny we have to hault because everything is very analog,and the gears are in a lot of pressure and load.So canceling 4L without stopping is a big NO.

    In my opinion y he Brake Limited Slip Differential of the Jimny is too slow to react. I needs 4-5 full revolutions of the wheel before it understands to apply brakes to the spinning wheel transferring torque to the wheel not rotating.
    Other brands are much better at this. Meaning, if you want the AllGrip system of the Jimny to perform well you need to keep the engine rev’s at 3000-4000 for the AllGrip to understand what it needs to do. This is not always ideal, especially when rock crawling.
    Solution …
    Get one or two / front or rear/ or both differential lockers.
    In general there are three kinds of diff-lockers.
    1. Air lockers. The best ones are from ARB in Australia. The cheap ones are Chinese copies using cheaper materials that brake - don’t buy them.
    Air lockers require a compressor.
    If an air-locker isn’t installed well air-lockers will leak air, I.e., will not engage.
    2. Electro magnetic lockers, E-Lockets. Installation quality is important.
    E-lockers disengage if the vehicle reverse. It will only re-engage when more ving forward by 1-2 turns of the wheel.
    3. Automatic lockers. These lockers are fully automatic. As long as the wheels on the same axle rotates at the same speed the differential is closed/locked. But when on high friction surface like tarmac making a turn the auto-locker will unlock itself to permit the outer wheel of the bend to turn faster than its mate on the same axle.
    The auto-locker is my favorite. It cost less than the other two, it’s more reliable, and it challenges me as its driver because I have to be mechanically empathic driving it.
    In my Gen3 Jimny o had a rear LockRight locker from Power Trax. It turned a very capable 4x4 to a mountain goat!
    Today I have a Gen4 Jimny with front and rear diff-lockers from Kaiser in Brazil.
    Yes, the lockers from ARB are the best. But for half the cost of the ARB’s I got two lockers from Kaiser. As I’m on a budget, I favor the Kaiser ones, hands down.
    Nothing will have as a great impact on capability of your 4x4 as one or two differential lockers.
    - Get them.
