- A video tour of ARTA’s famous bridge. The bridge is famous for its legend and poem which describes how the bridge collapsed at night and was rebuilt during the day. It is said that a bird with a human voice spoke to the Master builder and told him in order for the bridge to stand he would have to sacrifice his wife as an offering.
As they buried her in the foundations, she cursed the bridge and all that walked over it. She later changed the curse to a blessing when they told her that her brother crossed the bridge.
The bridge also served as the border of the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Greece after the Balkan wars, circa 1912-1913.
