  • Detailed Itinerary for Visiting Normandy for the First Time: www.chrisandellen.com/detaile...
    We live in the same small French village by the sea in Normandy for a month or two every year and travel all around the region. Even though our local sommelier and baker know us by name now, there is still so much we have yet to see in Normandy, and we keep coming back to enjoy the charm of small French village life.
    Here are the 5 best-kept secrets of Normandy, France, and why this region is definitely worth the visit.

      @@ChrisandEllen Hi again, we are continuing our WW2 France trip to see the sights we missed. We stayed on Omaha Beach last year in September. We met with Thierry from Overlord Tours and he did an extensive off sight tour and more. We ventured to other more local sites and next we are focusing on some of the Canadian Memorial sites, ie: Dieppe, Dunkirk, more Caen and Belgium.
      We also really like fresh, right out of the sea food so we can cook it ourselves. We are close to the ocean in Dieppe if you have any advice?

      We'll eventually have to tell another one we heard about a Pathfinder (the ones who jumped in weeks before the invasion/liberation) who broke his hip on landing and had to be cared for IN THE HOUSE that we stay at in Normandy. It's crazy how much history dots the landscape with untold stories.

    I moved from California to the Aude 2007. The year before I spent six weeks with a backpack and a rail pass. I am minutes from Mediterranean beaches and less thtone hour from Spain. Travel beyond your region. There is so much to experience.

    Thanks for the tips and clips. Ive always wanted to visit normandy for its history. Which bed and breakfast inn would u recommend in Normandy, which is convenient to visit the sites, and not too pricy. Merci beaucoup.

    • @ChrisandEllen
      @ChrisandEllen  2 роки тому +1

      There are so many to choose from it's very hard to say and it depends on your budget. We generally recommend renting a car and basing yourself in Caen or St Mere Eglise for the WW2 sites.

    we have an Airbnb on the beach in Cabourg but its 30 mins from Cean and over 1 hour to the D D beaches.. Do you think staying by the beach is worth it or stay near Bayeux? we are booking 4 nights. 2 full days for D Day and 1 day for Mt St Michel. We also would love to stay in Honfleur..but it's further than Cabourg. your advice?

    • @ChrisandEllen
      @ChrisandEllen  Місяць тому

      Normandy is a pretty spread out region. If you can do a couple nights by the beaches, 1 night by Mont St Michel, and 1 night in Honfleur (on your way back to Paris), then that would be what we recommend. But also, it’s all totally doable as day trips from Cabourg as well!

    How do you get around Normandy when you go for a month?

    • @ChrisandEllen
      @ChrisandEllen  Місяць тому

      We’re usually house sitting and using the home owners car. You will definitely need a car to get around the region the easiest.

    • @ChrisandEllen
      @ChrisandEllen  5 місяців тому +1

      In St Vaast La Hougue, search Lesdos-Allaire. They sell them by the pound in all sizes, or you they can serve them in their patio overlooking the boats that brought them in.
