Men may not experience the pain of childbirth or need physical recovery, but the presence of a new child is a major life change. It would be amazing and interesting to hear about the other side, male postpartum depression
What society doesn't realise is that it can happen even at baby no.4 or 5. I know a lady to whom this happened. She had a fifth child (was married and all) and completely let go. By the Lord's grace, she wondered to my mom's work, who was a teacher by trade (but holds a psychology degree) so she knew what was going on, contacted the family (let her stay over a few days) and got her help, even back then when PPD wasnt well spoken about. The woman is extremely good now and the child is about to start varsity 😊.
The need to be a perfect mom can be overwhelming sometimes. We want to give our kids everything and that sometimes means neglecting ourselves. Welcoming a baby and raising a baby without support is hard. Raising kids abroad with less support is showing me flames. Thank you ladies for sharing your stories.
My ultimate goal one day is to have an institution that only focuses on pregnant women and new mothers, a place where women from all works of life, different cultures etc can meet for therapy, massages etc. While sharing their challenges where I will also have babysitters looking their babies,a place where they can even sleepovers to regain some sense of sanity
I experienced post partum depression myself with both my pregnancies. I was blessed in that both experiences were moderate types of depression and lasted about 2 weeks each. The first one was caused by having an emergency c section and having my baby taken to the Nicu ward for a week and being discharged before her. Going home without her was excruciating and I thank God that eventually we were able to bring her home and now she is a healthy vibrant 4 year old. Women go through so much and it is by the grace of God that we soldier on.
This hit home for me, conceived after many years of trying 7 gynaes and a homeopath later. My son was born last year in May, I live in Pretoria and my family is in Kimberley. He ended up in ICU when when he was a week old to the day, did not have enough breast milk and thank God I insisted on taking him to a Dr because his organs had started shutting down from starvation. The fact that I had him by c-section already caused a disconnect, not being able to produce milk had me feeling so guilty, still do. The inlaw were no help even though they're in Pretoria , my then husband got admitted for depression and now we're divorced family blames me for his depression . I think I have Post Natal Depression too, but I do not have the luxury to fall apart. It's one thing to support a child financially and completely something else to physically raise him. Society expects us to be perfect that's why we're ashamed to speak out, so we keep our heads above water and just keep it moving....
I appreciate the diversity that is represented by the guests with each show. it's interesting how both these ladies are so different and have had different paths that lead them to experience something similar yet so different
I can't afford a therapist, but i really wish to talk to someone. Motherhood has had a toll on me and i just wish to share my feelings with someone, since my partner doesn't understand how i feel.
Motherhood is a lifetime job. We really need to stop judging others. Thank you Relebogile for the show. And thanks to your guests for sharing their stories.
Side note, I really want to commend you.... Your approach to all topics is with pure grace and you are so delicate..... We are appreciate you♥️💕 love and light to you Relebogile
Raising a child requires a mother nd father ,grandmother on either side of the family, a nanny too. It is a lot of work and it needs one to be ready emotionally, physically, mentally and financially. Yhuu bawo you need support nje as a woman who brings life here on earth. How much more teenagers who are still kids themselves mnk
I would love to hear more of Fortune Zungu-Ludaka's story, she seems to have been through a lot in life but the greatest of it all is that she is still trying to do better and better. Another amazing episode Kele, great job!
A very great show Relebogile, thanks to the ladies for sharing their painful story praying that they will succeed in raising their kids and looking after themselves. God bless 🙏🙏
Do you guys remember the lady who went to Newzealand with family, she killed her 3 kids and people called her names. It is because we do not talk about these struggles
That's a completely different case but I'm not judging her. She was on meds, she got off meds just so she could qualify for emigration status. She is a doctor and so is her husband. Her babies were not new,one was 6.I blame the hubby in that case because he shouldn't have left her alone knowing her mental state.
It wasn't postpartum. It was another disorder which she had under control in SA, they struggled to have those kids, IVF etc. The issue was suspending treatment and moving to a new environment with 3,kids.This is the price they had to pay for "greener pastures".
This is too deep. May I please apologise for myself and on behalf of the rest of human kind (I want to say ladies, but I guess men too) who have failed to support new moms in a way they need(ed) us. Forgive us ladies (in studio and in the comments) ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
My ultimate goal one day is to have some sort of therapy/support place, that only focuses on pregnant women and new mothers, a place where they coming in daily or sleepovers to talk about their challenges while receiving the care they need and have babysitters around looking after the babies🙌🙏
😭😭😭😭 I am so emotional right now. When I gave birth end April this year I had no one to help me. I came back from hospital and cooked for myself. Fortunately, I had a natural birth but I was so overwhelmed the first weeks…… not getting enough sleep, having to do the house chores and take care of your new born. It was too much.
I think not having enough support and not wanting to have a child at that time not planned not ready, mother's are bound to go through this and hormones just make everything feel worse. That's how I feel about post natal depression, Motherhood is not easy, nothing worth it is easy in this world!!!
The black community is not forgiving to women after they give birth. The expectations from everyone to always be okay is another thing that kills our women, being a new mom is the most difficult experience
With my first pregnancy I used to wait for everyone to leave home and start crying and will only stop around 2,because I knew my siblings were coming back from school and mother will soon be back from and everyone was home I will be bubbly like nothing happened.
@@massymarole529 thank you, today she's writing her first matric exam, Gratitude is all my heart is filled with, and she got accepted at UJ and WITS will consider after her final exams results.I will once again sacrifice until she's done with her studies🤗God has been good
More than anything the help of someone you trust is crucial. Ask for help and be with people who can help. The second lady could have just stopped the therapist fees and paid a nanny.

Voted for....
I agree.
Yes, that would be insightful and probably have couples come in.

From your mouth to the Lord's ears❤

I never took Post natal depression serious until now. Too deep, thanks ladies for sharing.

I also relate. Sometimes I just need a call about me and how I’m doing. It does seem like all people care about is the baby
Love and light to you ❤️

May you get all the help you need to heal. Wish i could befriend and hug you right now
How are you now my Queen and the baby?
Mother’s are just afraid to be shamed. Moms are judged a lot and everyone want to give you baby advice. It’s exhausting
Amen!!
Very true

Try a journal strategy
Call me .i think we need each other
I can totally relate🥺I wish we could create a platform where we can talk about these things, how we feel and just offload. We need it.
I am feeling the same way, worse I had twins with no help it's totally a strain
I'm sorry dear, i know how exhausting that is with just one child

😲 really, she got off meds to qualify? I did not know this part
And for husband to also allow the wife to be off meds, no man, this is not fair. How long does post natal depression last for?

I pray my mom lives long enough to help me when I get pregnant 😭😭

Wow I've learnt so much ❤❤
Motherhood scares me 😭.
I also didn’t know about a postpartum doula. I didn’t have anyone assisting me so it was tough
More than anything the help of someone you trust is crucial. Ask for help and be with people who can help. The second lady could have just stopped the therapist fees and paid a nanny.
It's really not that bad. I didn't experience any of that. Have my mom, helped me a lot.
Having a child is a serious thing hey
Motherhood is hard ur showers are cut short u can't even spend 5 Min in the toilet 😂😂
Yes...zero me-time
I used to brush my teeth with my newborn in the other hand, she was very clingy and always wanted to be close to her Mommy.
& the part where you have to go with the baby to the loo because they won't let u move an inch😂😂😂 wow motherhood is next level🤞
Today's episode?
My Questions is why therapist not free!! Especially for low income families .
Today's show e kae ?
A "postpartum doula" reminds me of a Chinese documentary (if I'm not mistaken) detailing similar services
