I was in the market for a laptop recently and I was considering one of these Copilot laptops, but I'm glad I went with an Intel chip while they work out the issues with these. It is impressive how well they are working with emulation of older apps and as developers optimize for ARM I'm hoping that these become the norm in the future. Having a powerful computer with incredible battery life is the dream.
It's been really surprising how few issues I've had. Granted, I'm not pushing it super hard, but pretty much everything I've tried has at least worked.
I run WIndows on ARM on a Macbook though Parallels and it runs very smoothly.
I run it on an iPad pro with 16GB RAM via UTM and it runs fine, but not as well as on my M1 Mini
Does it neuter the MacBooks battery life?
I run it on my Mac os virtual machine with boot camp installed which runs a vm of Linux that uses wine to emulate windows on arm on a ps2
Holy s***t thank GOD dude the first UA-camr who puts the damn specs in the description- you would think this is a no brainer holy crap dude thank you so much for not wasting my time. I’m subbing 😂
😂
Thanks Shane. I know I will be going down this route some time not so distant!
Good review, Shane. I ordered my Surface Laptop 15 inch this morning and should have it tomorrow. I'm guessing after some firmware along with app updates, the computer should perform even better. Do a follow up video down the road. Thanks.
I have the sapphire blue 13.8 X Elite too. Awesome little device.
I am so happy you did this review. I have been interested in possibly purchasing one of these for myself.
Great job
Thanks!
Enjoy your device. It's money well spent, don't worry about it. If I had money, I'd definitely buy the Surface Pro OLED, it's perfect for me.
Well spent might be a stretch lol. Thanks for watching though, that does help a little.. 😂
Snapdragon X Elite ❤❤
Shane, I completely agree with you about the screen aspect ratio; 16:9 should die a quick death! I'm curious what version of the Snapdragon is in your laptop? I really like the idea of this, and the Surface version is by far one of the best ones, but I think Qualcomm made a big error charging so much for these. AMD Hawk Point laptops are already coming down in price to around $800 for slightly better performance, and Strix Point will be launching in a couple of weeks with a 77% performance improvement as well as better efficiencies, where leaks are already showing comparable quality and better specced Strix Point laptops will be launching at cheaper prices... It just doesn't make sense for many of these (like the ASUS model) to be more than $800 - $900.
Most of the OEM manufacturers are doing an awful job of supporting these ARM chips so far, but Microsoft should be better in that regard, considering how much money they have invested into Qualcomm R&D. It would also be nice if these could run Linux too. And why aren't there any Chromebook models with X Elite chips being announced; to me, that's where these chips make a lot of sense!
Specs are in the description, but it's the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80-100. For the other stuff, I think the Qualcomm chips will still have a place. Performance per watt will be very important.
Chromebooks can run on Smartphone SoCs just fine, a high end phone has better hardware than most chromebooks.
Nice review. Could you test Power BI and Tableau?
Really really love the new Elite X lineup. I know it's gonna be removed soon, but is it possible to test WSA on it? I always wanted to know if Android games on WSA on an ARM Windows just uses Level 1 hypervisor and straight up run directly on the ARM cpu?
I honestly thought that was a pixelbook go. Great video.
I always use matte screen protectors and they work really well for both anti-glare and fingerprints (for example Supershieldz anti glare and fingerprint
matte).
I would never buy a gaming laptop I have a nice desktop for that but for productivity this is the best laptop I’ve ever used
That's pretty much where I'm at
I am not sure if you will look at this but here goes: Will Nvidia or AMD / Snapdragon or Windows allow EGPU support?
This would be for me the only reason to upgrade my M1, since apple keeps its system closed. Ive seen some vids where the adapter works, but when installing drivers it says no drivers available. So there might be hope?
Yes, most X Elite notebooks have USB4, which includes Thunderbolt 3
Loved the review and seeing where Microsoft is going (except Recall). An oled tablet running windows games natively on a powerful Arm chip combined with a powerful iGPU and a port fast enough to dock an external GPU, this with a sandwich controller would be my dream jack of all trade PC. May be in 5 years.
Funny to read in the title "gaming" when Snapdragon has repeated for more than 6 months that the Elite X is NOT for gaming !
Qualcomm can't stop me from having fun lol. From what I can tell though, I agree with what Qualcomm has said. It's not for gaming, but it can absolutely do it to some degree.
Well you are wrong because gaming is a very good test to see the real performance of the GPU. The problem with the x elite is that the CPU is very fast but the GPU sucks azz
@dantebg100 I don't think he was being super critical. Perhaps stating the irony of the test which I can appreciate.
Is it recommendable for video editing
No - maybe just small edits - for now
The only thing that matter is battery life. And it is very disapointing compared to AMD equivalent laptops. It requires a lot more power than apple M chips.
Wild seeing anyone call the battery life very disappointing 😂
Nice stuff man as usual. No way I am buying one of those though 😂
Because...
Please try Premier Pro 🙏
Adobe is supposed to release a compatible version later this year
You have spent the last several days trying to convince yourself to spend some money...
That's the opposite of what I said lol
Oof. They need to fix the Xbox games.
Yeah, that's such a big oversight
Microsoft already has your data nothing to be concern about
AMD is a lot better and will totally obliterate it with Strix Point.
I think you're exaggerating. Strix Point will no doubt be very good, but obliteration is too strong lol. They ain't busting out exodia.
Do you forget who is behind these chips?
