This video is about our day visiting the Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. It was great to see in person and very interesting to learn how the dunes were formed here.
Must be one of the most strangest scenery views.Snow Capped Mountains-Desert-Prairies-Sand Dunes :) Glad to get to visit all these places, Wish I could !! I Love Colorado but only been to Denver.
You keep hiking at the pace you are, you will be a professional hiker in no time. You're going to need a vacation from your vacation when you finish. The Dunes are awesome, I went there 30 years ago and I was awestruck.
As a native Coloradan and a fellow RV'r, I am really enjoying seeing your view of Colorado. We take it for granted I think as natives. Glad you are enjoying your trip.
Montanans TX Sand Dunes - Those and more were from ancient oceans that flowed and lived there. In Colorado there are "Reef xxxx" markers on the highways - up in the top - the white area - Coral beds from under water. The mountains rose and pushed the limestone high in the air.
If you guys move to Colorado, you will love it. Just avoid the front range and get some land. The weather around Canon city is really mild. Find a few acres and go for it if you can!
Long hauler's secret: Empty Gatorade bottles. For the Super hauler: Empty Sunny D jugs. Empty them before final disposal. I remember a guy that just couldn't hold it any longer. He stopped where the ground fell away, below sight from the highway, went half way down, and let it fly. Problem was, there is a county road that runs parallel to the highway along that stretch. Just as he had fully committed himself to the task at hand, I come popping over a hill. In a School Bus. With 11 K-5th grade kids on board. All I could do was keep driving. He couldn't do anything, the grass was mowed and there were no bushes to hide behind. The kids were in their usual morning stupor. Only after the last pick up on the route was made, and we were making the drive to the school, did I hear one of the girls state the obvious ... and I never heard another word about it from them.
We went to the Dunes when I was around ten years old. Dad decided he would take the "shortcut". Ten miles of washboard gravel in our 59' Edsel Corsair with a tent camper. We camped there overnight and did NOT take the shortcut when we left.
If you come to South Eastern Washington State, we have the Manhattan Project National Park and the B Reactor, plant that produced plutonium for Nagasaki bomb. Also, we lived 8 years in Colo Springs and have visited nearly all the places you have been posting. It is fun to say, we been there, we have a picture of us there. Thank you.
How dare they repair the road that you are driving on Adam 😂😂lunch looks good and the scenery is beautiful 🥰👏👏👏👍🇬🇧🍺🍺 Hay Adam the guitar backing is fantastic 👍
My family ran a souvenier shop juust outside the park in the 70s...it was about the only thing out there..just looked on google earth and was suprised how much more is there now
I didn't go too far on the dunes when I was there quite a few years back and I didn't go with my photography group a couple years ago because with my ankles I can't walk well on sand (couldn't walk well on your great beaches in Pensacola well now either). It is a beautiful place. There were a couple wildlife refuges that could be good depending on year to the west of there.
ah yes, construction on the route of vacation.... been there, those pee stops stressing in traffic, remember the mountains always look closer than they really are, good luck brother👍
About thirty five years ago we got a pickup stuck crossing a little creek somewhere in that area. Can't remember where. At least 12 hours to get the rig out. Gained a lot of respect for that sand.
@@JAMESWUERTELE We were on a goat trail in the mountains and got stuck finding our way out. This was before Clinton locked the whole area up. '88 or '89.
@@JAMESWUERTELE To end multiple land use such as mining, logging, oil drilling, cattle grazing, ect. It was done all over the country. ANWR in Alaska is an example. Jimmie Carter closed massive parts of the state on his way out the door because he was he was butt hurt about not being able to stop the Alaska Pipe Line and being defeated by Reagan.
John Baskett makes sense, so nobody can use the land. I’ve been over the pass from Westcliffe side a bunch of times. Nothing in the last 10 years however. I have heard of a lot of trails coming over the ridge in years past.
That’s a long, lonely stretch sometimes. Have you taken the Combres-Toltec narrow gauge? It’s down in that neck of the woods-ish and goes back and forth over the CO and NM border. I’m enjoying your vacation vids. Mike and I had no idea you had another channel. We’ve been watching the machining stuff for I think a couple of years now. You were machining gears for some Swedish machine when he first came across you. I did a full moon night photography trip at those dunes once, and man that was a brutal climb up. Lol it was also 9° that night trying to shoot photos. Glad you’re having a lovely vacation, and I hope the snow didn’t mess with your plans too much. Best shirt ever! You’re my people, girl. Lol ❤️❤️
Oh and I know people ask this probably a million times but I’m googling these little passport books and can’t find anything on them and was curious. I’m wanting to travel eventually so I’m curious. It looks like such a fun way to remember your trip!
Those dunes have been used as location shots for countless movies and commercials! Picturesque! Gota think of some koAB79 picture with those dunes. Could be a cool cover picture? Maybe photoshop a river and trees in the foreground??? ...maybe not, it would look too much like the Colorado River around Needles. Speaking of which. I think that it would be one great adventure: following the Colorado River from Lake Powell to the border...and then to the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez)...San Filípe, Mexico. ...Yeah! If you aren't hooked on the SouthWest of USA by now... By Providence... I was raised in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Boy Scouts, Church, family and College trips covered that area. Development hasn't destroyed everything (actually improved some areas), but time has brought changes. You gota atleast drive through and see it because in ten years it will be different. That's been the story of California for the past century. Hey, I gota good look at the Vero Beach, Florida area in 1984...I'm sure it has changed immensely since then.
Nice place Adam Nice cantry the USA. One Day visit the Greece we have beter places to see. It is faraway but worth...... John Grizopoylos retired machinist
A vacation in southern Greece...that's as good as it gets. I'd love to see that magnificent azure sky and turquoise waters... plus the historic sites of human civilization!
Adam my friend i have never been where you and Abby are but I have been in your area of Florida and Alabama for a long time. I am sorry i do not believe that the sand feels the same by the "rocks" you had in your hand. Just saying my friend. The gulf coast say from Biloxi to Tampa is the best beaches in the world.
I've seen more of Colorado watching your videos then i ever seen as a Colorado native & I'm 79. So THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Gotta get out and see your beautiful state!

It's good to see you taking a long vacation. Have a great time!

Interesting hearing from some locals who are enjoying our take on it 👍🏻
luv your pain getting there. no place to stop, or pee, or get a drink. But Luv the dunes. Stayed there a couple of times.
I grew up in that area. It is amazing how hard hiking through soft dry sand is at 7500+ feet altitude.
White Sands National Park in in New Mexico is a great place to visit we had a good time visiting there.
Hi Adam and Abby love your videos. If you ever get to Australia I’d love to show you my home state.....and my old South Bend lathe ;)
Those dunes are insane!
Abby's shirt! lol
Those are some beautiful dunes. That first sand dune looked like a speed bump 😁. Glad you are really enjoying yourselves. Abby, I love your shirt.
My buddy has to drive through that construction everyday for work. Trust me brotha, we’re damn sick of it too lol. Glad to have you in the valley
Heard of them but had never seen them before. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Great series guys!! Living in the UK, makes me miss visiting such beautiful places. Love Abby's T shirt!!

I really like it in that Hwy 50 corridor
The land in that area isn't that high. But I think getting water and electric to it can be kind of pricey.
You guys are the best! I hope you're having a good night out there. :)

I have that same apple slicer. They work great.
Gota go to Glamis Dunes, near San Diego, California. It's a mad house on Labor day weekend. Offroad paradise.

Use to farm 12 miles west of the dunes.
Great videos of the sand dunes! I don't blame you two for not hiking up those monster dunes...take 1 step forward, slide 2 steps backwards!!!!!
What should we watch when the trip is over... addicting and fun to watch.
We'll just have to keep them coming...vlog style
The nice thing is Adam, you have your bathroom with you!

Medano Pass?

Search for the National Park Service website. They sell them along with all of the officials stamps and decals.
Abom Adventures thank you thank you!! ❤️❤️
I was on that road recently. Construction was not working as it was a sunday. Loooong way between stopping places. Barren landscape.
There was an alligator farm out in that area also.

seems like there should be cats everywhere, they were always in our sandbox as kids
Top tee shirt Addy Lol....
Adam, what model of Ram do you currently drive and what was the previous model? I love what your travels, has me wanting to start.
Current truck is a 19 Ram 2500 4x4 with the Cummins diesel. Previous model was a Ram Express 1500.
@@AbomAdventures Greatly appreciate the reply. Safe travels to you and Abby.
There are 2 seasons in Colorado. Winter and construction. The only difference is less construction in winter.

Amazed by the Greek pronouns and surnames!
I believe you’re being bias
So, being from Florida, I reckon you've ruled out a visit to the alligator farm a few miles west of the sand dunes?
There are two seasons, winter and construction.
I'm glad you did it so I don't have to
Mt Rushmore next?
a lot of nothing in the south west ..drive safe thanks for the vids
Honda CR 500 will get yez up those sand hills real quick .
You will never know what you can do, until you try.
Gota take a horse ride. An ATV would be great too...but they do make noise...some people object to...
It's a shame those dunes are closed to OHV's.
The bird might of been a roadrunner
magpie
Did you happen to run into Bigfoot at the Dunes.....buy chance? If you happen to see or bump into him, whatever you do, don't lend him $10 bucks.

Dave Hall Having been there myself, the sand is very soft. Not rocks at all. Just created from different materials.
Could you find a Gumtree mate I know that feels mate ah that are they can chemo and radiation for cancer had a bugger your mate Chris Australia
Where’s the steak 🥩
One thing I have learned out here, if you want a good steak you have to season it and cook it yourself
