*Yessss!!! We definitely need a PANEL on the topic of MASCULINITY 👏👏 Rix, a modern dad, a traditional dad and a PSYCHOLOGIST😊*
I am glad that women who came before us fought for the right to education and the right to work. Without that, the only choice would have been to rely on a man 100%, which would mean giving away my freedom. Working (outside the home) gets me paid for what I have rightly earned, and no one can claim the right to control that, unless I let them do so. This money gives me freedom to make choices in a way that I could not, if I had to borrow money, or get a monthly allowance from a man. Even if I got a dollar-billionaire husband, I would still build something of my own, even if it is an online business or a flexible consultancy job, or I could run the philanthropy part of his career life (like a non-profit). Also, if we did not get the right to paid work, I would be labouring on a farm, tending to goats and cows and many kids, in a small village close to where I was born.
Wueh, the fighting for the right to work for women was more about getting compensated for work done, and access to white collar jobs, than about women WORKING. Otherwise African women especially, have always worked. Our grandmothers and mothers tilled land, planted crops, bartered items, and even sold chang'aa to educate and care for the children and the homestead. We really need to stop saying that women did not work in the past (this might be true for the suburban white women whose husbands worked, and even for them, this was a terrible arrangement for the most part, to the extent that most abused antidepressants, alcohol, etc to deal with the boredom of being home all day) ,,, because women have always worked...
even the enslaved African American women worked, they just were not compensated at all!
Yes, came to say just that, as though that remark might have been said in jest, there is a whole generation of younglings who may take it for the truth. Women from around here have always worked. Our grandmothers and great grandmothers broke their backs.
What was fought for was the right to be paid. People forget women couldn't even open a bank account in as recent as the 1970s around here. Prior, they would till the land and work on the tea farms, amidst housework and getting endless kids, and all that was seen as "non-work, not deserving of pay or even recognition"; any dime that came was paid to men.
The "historical" image people have of when "women did not work" are indeed (a very niche) white woman's tale.
plus feminism fought for choice. Should you want to work, you have the choice to do so and get compensated as a man would.
It also recognizes home making as a job that requires adequate compensation.
Feminism is not about forcing women into the workforce. We're thinking patriarchy and capitalism 🥲
You are right on the fact that African women worked in the traditional times. Our grandmas tell me of how they worked on farms, and around the home so that is still work, but it is usually unpaid and uncompensated. Even in communities like Samburu and Maasai, where rural women still play traditional roles, I usually see them left to tend to young goats, fetch water, cook and to care for 5 or more children, which is a very difficult job and unpaid.
19:27- men perpetrate about 95% of domestic violence. Literature suggests too that men are LESS likely to interrupt sexual and relationship violence when they see it occurring compared to women.
e.g if your drink is drugged at a club, is a woman more likely to inform you of it or a man?
if your child is getting groomed, (by a child abuser), who , between a man or woman is likely to recognize it and bring it to your attention?
Women are protectors too. It's not only a quality that's biologically innate to men.
58:35- I think the conversation should be more along the lines of; would these men in my life who offer me a sense of security , evoke the same feeling in other women? Because your husband who is your sense of security, may be the guy at work that I never want to be alone with.
Women do not get enough credit for the mental load they carry in remembering tasks, organizing schedules, and anticipating the needs of family members. This cognitive burden can be exhausting and taxing on mental health. most employers don't give enough credit to women's professional achievements and most times women get paid less compared to their male colleagues.
Not me listening while lying in bed simply coz I woke up in my pees, headache & fatigue. I got 3 black dresses that are a code of saying don’t dare cross my lane, gladly someone understands the language of those dresses. If there’s no cooked food someone has to figure out & that person is not me
In my next life I want to be a tree & leave a 100yrs
Get well soon 🫶🏽
Sorry girl, i also have a terrible toothache & I'm watching this episode to distract myself 😢
I have never understood why periods have to be so overly dramatic as if being disgusting isn't enough.period is the most disgusting thing that has ever happened.
During that period; I do t want to do nothing!!. And I demand for people to understand that, without me explaining.first of all,I have to turn 1000 times before I can find a comfortable position to get any sleep.if I eat even the slightest food, I get bloated,if I fail to eat,I feel like I'm dying the next second..infact sometimes I feel like I can't visit the doctor to remove all my internal organs, because I just don't understand what's happening in my tummy 🙆🙆🙆🙆whyyyyy?????!.
Lyd just gave us a new phrase without putting effort...shokwo ni thayu😂😂😂😂
Bien and Shiv would be good contributors for the 'things men don't get credit for' topic.
Loved this conversation. As always i love how you inject banter, empathy and candor in these conversations. ❤
You ladies look stunning❤
Lyd, this hair is your signature now. You look so good ❤
Wednesday is here again, let me be on my earphones cause from the topic feminine energy is loading and am at work😂
😂😂 enjoy while at it hun
Not me visualising Lydia pregnant while hosting the show 😂😂
This conversation was such a trigger, when I was approaching my due date with my first born, I happened to mention something about how I longed for maternity leave, how I would rest and not want to strain🤔🤔🤔🤔heeee, bro inlaw who was at our home chastised me telling of how women in shags get babies and go to the farm the next day, if looks could kill, he would be an ancestor as we speak🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I agree with Murugi, God's children need rest, plenty of rest
How did he feel it was okay to tell you that? Mimi I would have said something to make him very uncomfortable.
Enjoying the comversation, 2:36 not to deviate from the focus but I'd like to give another perspective on work. Work in the 21st century has been made to look like a forced thing for survival and pioneer consumerism. I celebrate the women who fought for our right to work. Think about women who are in a calling may it be healing or teaching or mission work. They're not driven by money or needs. It's more of passion. May we value passion driven workers who don't view work as many would rather a purpose driven commitment.
Great conversations as always 😊
This setup is GIVING!!!! The lighting, the deco and the glow glow on you baddies…🔥🔥🔥
Not Murugi calling Zach a cow😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂she was so mad saying it
I felt that, kwanza how she just dropped back into the chair and crossed her legs.. And I'm currently cramping.. I felt her 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
So my dad was a fam to table guy, I can slaughter kuku do everything, cook it etc. ALSO, I can change a tire... ni nini? Now that I can pay someone to do it, i dont, but I can. That episode really just shook the ground...in a good way. What cant a woman do? What cant a man do? Jiulize. Oooh also, trust my daughter (and i have one) will know how to get the chicken from farm to table. And so will my son.

Yaaay 😍😍
Wueeeh the idea of pregnancy now makes me question the idea of masculinity. So now that you married a nurturer who doesn't have to provide, you have to work as usual till 8 months because now you can't expect Providence. In that case do we ask friends and family to pay bills and take care of maternity charges?? And still take care and support you after birth?? And babies are expensive.
The idea of of a man who cannot provide and protect only makes sense where there are no kids involved. Otherwise, 😊😊😊😊. We all have choices ladies.
Now here is where we have theory and what actually happens.
MURUGI AND NEEDING MONEY FOR THE LIFESTYLE 😂

Yaaaay ! 😍😍😍
I really wish TMI would do factual research before misleading a crowd that will blindly be influenced by the conversations. The narrative you have on work and women is so misguided. I cant help but question your socialization to work. Please shape a narrative that is helpful and factual
Or maybe stick to sex matters. At least you're equipped in such areas. The intro part is just wrooong and socializing work the wrong way. Mind your words on a big platform. You're responsibile to do background research before spitting words
