When I first played through Earthbound, I would always dodge the cars because I thought they would insta-kill me. Then this one time, I went too slow and you probably know what happened. I was both relieved and confused.
I love how Ness looks beflre crossing the street, then promptly walks away after picking up his badge like the car wasn't there. Happens a lot, poor drivers!
This looks so cool visually I now really want some kind of earthbound remake in this sort of 2.5D style with the pixel art characters in the 3D backgrounds. That would be awesome. I also love the attention to detail with the meteor being barely visible on the top of the screen on the mountain, that’s cool, too. I just love this so much.
funny thing is i was using a ness model but syncing IK feet with the root movement was kind of hard so i changed it to using sprites instead and the meteor, well i reused some textures from the onett stage in melee and the meteor was just a texture

People joking about this kind of thing always makes me think of how in the Yo-Kai Watch games, there's an actual mechanic about traffic rules where you have to use crosswalks and wait for traffic lights when crossing the road. You can't actually get run over, but every time you violate the rules you it affects an invisible counter that summons a powerful yo-kai named Snartle to fight you if you break the rules too much. It's a really neat little mechanic and a great example of how Yo-Kai Watch tends to put a lot more effort into the little details of the world than most games are willing to.
it's terribly unfortunate that there is an entire web of realities where motor vehicles are the masters of the humans rather than subservient to them. in those realities when car hits boy the boy gets turned into red mist... :(
