Dear Sekolah you are very intelligent and described in a crystal clear way that is a great way of helping peopleThanks for the such informative description
Honda has really good schools to train mechanics I went to one of them and it dealt mainly with tuneups there they described a valve adjustment by using the go-no go method. that means you’re putting your .003 mm gauge in but you use the .004 feeler gauge to verify that you have a perfect .003 mm. If the three goes in but the four doesn’t then it’s definitely the .003 mm. If you use this method it will make you a much better mechanic.
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif You’re welcome I have one more tip that I noticed might help you when you’re trying to stick your feeler gauge in between the tappet and the valve take your feeler gauge and run it across the round part of a screwdriver to put a curl in it this will make it easier for you to stick the feeler gauge in good luck
Thanks man! Nice video. I'll bet it was annoying to get the camera angles set up right to get the valve adjustments, but I really appreciate your taking the time to do it.
Feeler gauges have always felt a bit like black magic to me. They never really made sense because I never had someone show me in person. Still, your video really helped me a lot with my valve adjustment on my bike. Thanks, man!
Thumbs up for the instruction. But you forgot a important thing, first is to remove spark plug to release preasure of the engine for accurate valve clearance..

hi idol tnx for very informative and very helpful..ur not jus motorcycle mechanic ur mechanic also a 4wheels huh.nice may I know what's the right gauge for the valve clearance of my vegaforce 115cc engine specially intake and exhaust...?and I want to know if same procedure if I do it to my Vega the t mark of crank cover and the timing mark.do the same to Honda??
I have no reliable data or information resources for Yamaha Vega Force engine valve clearance, but as we know that Yamaha Vega Force have similar engine (and valve) to Yamaha Jupiter Z1, it seems we can use the same specification data with Yamaha Jupiter Z1 to Vega Force. Jupiter Z1 have 26 mm intake and 21 mm exhaust valve diameter, and Vega Force was the same. So, this is Yamaha Jupiter Z1 engine valve clearance (when cold): Intake valve: 0.08 mm - 0.12 mm Exhaust valve: 0.08 mm - 0.12 mm the procedure is a little bit different, you need to open cylinder head cover to adjust valve clearance, and the mark on the generator rotor maybe only the "I" line-shaped. I hope this helps.
+makoy161 Thanks for your request, but unfortunately we have no Yamaha Vega Force for makig that particular video. But I think, on similar mechanism types or components, you can follow our instructions for your particular motorcycle.
If you set the improper valve clearance, the valve mechanism will skittle away the rattle sounds (if the clearances were too wide), or the engine power will be reduced because of compression and combustion loss (if the clearances were too narrow).
Unfortunately the video about how to replace the engine valve seal are not yet made, but if one day there is an opportunity and time, I will make this video request. Thanks.
Severe backfire? My suggestion is you should clean the carburetor and then re-setting the idle mixture adjusting screw and the idle speed adjusting screw.
+Diosdado Jr. Manghino Actually, I don't have much experience on XRM110. But, basically, the method for adjusting the valve clearance is nearly similar. Unfortunately, I don't have a repair manual for XRM110, but most people said that the valve clearances for XRM110 are 0.04mm (IN) and 0.06mm (EX). I'm glad to hear how is the result. Good luck for your project!

Thank you for your feedback. In this video we use proper repair manual for Honda Karisma 125, and yes we use the proper size for the clearances according to the manual. Maybe you have different engine type regardless the same engine capacity (125 cc).
I can't insert my feeler gage 003. I don't won't to brack the manufacturer's seal ?. First time trying to fix. The cam spring is touching the adjuster nut is that ok. Dose the nut scrow in the cam spring? Thx
In our particular engine, (Honda Karisma 125) the adjuster bolt & nut stay on the rocker arm. Thus, the adjustment doesn't affect the cam spring. Only use the correct size for your particular engine (is it correct to use 0.03 mm for your engine?). If you can't insert the feeler gauge, try to make the gap wider by turning the bolt on counterclockwise direction. Then, adjust the valve clearances to the correct size (manufacturer's recommendations). Good luck!
Where do u put the feeler gauge, between the rocker arm and the what??? ....plz reply cause im working on my bike ..cuz its releasing some massive release fires..and thnx in advance
Insert the feeler gauge between rocker arm (actually: adjusting bolt) and upper valve stem, then turn (clockwise or counterclockwise) the adjusting bolt to adjust the gap between rocker arm (adjusting bolt) and upper valve stem.
+Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif my motorbike is 2005 Honda Wave125S. It is like your motorbike. I also have the 2004 Honda XR200 and I dont know the right valve clearance.
Oh, Honda Wave 125S? It's similar to Honda Karisma 125 in Indonesia. I'm not sure, is that bikes have same engine? Maybe you can search and download repair manual e-book on google for your bikes. It's important to adjust your valve clearance in accordance with the factory suggestion. But if both Honda Wave 125S and Honda Karisma 125 have a same engine, then they have a same valve clearance. It's 0.03 mm for both intake valve and exhaust valve.
Hello, i have a question. Does during top dead centre both valve (intake n exhaust) are closed? Should i just simply adjust the locknut with the mentioned measurement using filler gauge?
great video! Im Planning to diy my own valve clearance of my '13 Honda Future 125 Which has the similar engine. Thing is, the stock O Ring of the Honda Future always have minor leaks. So i was wondering, is it possible if i just cut a piece of gasket paper with the same size of the tappet adjusting cover and use that instead of the o ring? Thanks!
+Munkee Munks Thanks for your appreciation! Well, the repair manual usually recommend you to change the old stock O-ring that causes leaks. However, it's possible to stop the leakage by adding sealant to the old stock O-ring or, as you said, using gasket paper. Personally, as recommended by the manufacturer, I prefer to change the old O-ring with the new-original one as it would be long lasting component. Good luck with your DIY!
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif ahahaha. i agree is faster and cheaper. But the leaks is just driving me nuts! ive changed it 3 times now... genuine Honda o rings. 😂😂
+xander blythe It's called "top dead center" if the notches were aligned. So, it's highly recommend to align the notches on TDC position before valve clearance adjustment. Thank you.
+Antonio Tolentino By turning the flywheel, you can check the compression stroke (TDC position) by ensuring that the in & ex valves is not pressed by the rocker arm or the cam.
+Ephraim Paul Simpliciano Oh, in Indonesia Honda Beat 2015 is a carbureted engine. Where do you from? But, anyway, this is the valve clearances: Honda Beat (Carb.): IN=0.16mm, EX=0.16mm (both, plus-minus 0.02mm)
@@sekolahonlineteknikotomotif thanks. i examined my engine. a few seconds after starting, i see some sparks that escape from the sparkplug cap. this is not normal right? I think i will need to replace the cap. Need to look for tutorial how since shops are far feom my area. thanks for the reply!
+Denmark Belmoro If the noise is "really" come from relatively wide valve clearance (no other noise sources), I'm sure it would be gone regarding you adjust the valve clearance properly (standard/recommended size). Good luck 👍
+Tun Tun Naing Oh, maybe it could be, thanks for your request. But I think, if you understood the maintenance principle on this video, actually you can do it similar to your bike.
Hey, Jadav. Could you solve me a doubt? Thanks in advance for any help. In fact, I haven’t found anything clear on the Internet. So I came across with your video. The situation is, suppose I have to “Adjust Motorcycle Engine Valve Clearance”, what is the consequence if I let the admission or exhaust a opener or closer than the standard setting: in terms of performance, top speed and fuel saving? Thanks a lot for any clue. I am thinking about a one or two-cylinder motorcycle.
Insufficient clearance will result in the valves contacting the seats for a shorter time and consequently operate at higher temperatures. Excessive clearance will result in noisy operation and loss of power. This means, loss of power = bad fuel saving. So, great accuracy (standard timing) should therefore be used when adjusting valve clearance.
+Stephan Lopez You should follow repair manual for your particular motorcycle, it may have different specification. My Honda Karisma 125D have 0.03 mm valve clearance for both intake and exhaust valve (it based on repair manual).
+Stephan Lopez Unfortunately, there's only valve clearance in manual book, and do not include the valve diameter. But if you ask the valve stem outside diameter, Honda Karisma 125 has 4.975-4.990 mm for IN, and 4.955-4.970 mm for EX. Yes, it's different size. But manufacturer recommends the same size for valve clearance.
I think 0.01 mm is too narrow, in this video I use 125 cc engine too, and I adjust it to 0,03 mm. For more details, I suggest you to refer to repair manuals for that specific motorcycles. Thanks.
+rex limbo Basically, this procedure is applicable to manual adjusted valve mechanism. And yes, to Yamaha Mio. But the 0.03 mm size is not universal standard. Check your repair manual for that particular valve clearance size. Thank you.
+Harsh Rai Oh, did you mean noise on the valve mechanism? If yes, I think that's because of the valve clearances were too big (please note that the valve mechanism components must be normal or not wear out)
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif in my pulsar 150 after starting while accelerating there is sound and continue till accelation and in in start position without accelation sounds comes but when i accelarate dound encreases
+Harsh Rai Yah, I think you need to diagnose your engine thoroughly. Try with simple steps, like checking the valve clearances, timing chain tensioner, etc.
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif thnk u sir 4 ur reply but im a little bit confused , some says i used in-.003 and ex-.004 what can u say about that? and by the way sir ur videos are great
+Jenny Ferrer The valve loses most of it's heat through the valve seat. If the valve doesn't seat fully it will start to get hotter and hotter. Sooner or later the valve starts to melt or burn. Not good. Now if the clearance is too much the valve train components will be hammered every time the valve opens. Not good too, but better than too hot.
Hello I just want to ask. Even though marks are not that much aligned tho I can move the valves with my bare hands can I start the adjustment? Because I cant align the mark keep moving its like it has a spring i cant align those mark I made a lot of turns
+xtian de castro Hei, thanks for your appreciation! Actually, different engine may need different procedure or tuning specifications. However, you can see your Yamaha engine, does it have "similar" design or mechanism with mine? It is better if you use the repair manual for your particular motorcycle. Good luck 👍
Hello sir,I have the same motorcycle as yours. When the engine cold, the is no knocking sound, but when the engine is hot, there is a knocking sound from the head,is it okay?or do I need to setting the valve again?
@@sekolahonlineteknikotomotif yes I did, after I change the original camshaft to racing camshaft(high cam).Just as I said, when the engine cold, there's no knocking sound, but when the engine is hot,the knocking sound started. Is this normally happen when you already change the camshaft to racing camshaft?Or should I need to setting the valve again?
@@wilsonsunang6049 Well, I see. So I believe it's because of the change of the camshaft that you've made. Unoriginal camshaft may have slightly different material, thus it has different expansion when exposed to heat. You may calculate your own valve clearance to compensate the changes that you've made, otherwise it's better to use back the original camshaft. Good luck!
They have the same adjusment principle as the demonstrated one in this video, even though TMX has different cylinder head design. Unfortunately, I don't have the TMX's valve clearance size.
Unfortunately we don't have the video of Honda XRM. But you can use the main procedure on this video for your particular motorcycle. You only need to search the proper specification of your engine valve clearances. Good luck!

hi idol tnx for very informative and very helpful..ur not jus motorcycle mechanic ur mechanic also a 4wheels huh.nice may I know what's the right gauge for the valve clearance of my vegaforce 115cc engine specially intake and exhaust...?and I want to know if same procedure if I do it to my Vega the t mark of crank cover and the timing mark.do the same to Honda??
I have no reliable data or information resources for Yamaha Vega Force engine valve clearance, but as we know that Yamaha Vega Force have similar engine (and valve) to Yamaha Jupiter Z1, it seems we can use the same specification data with Yamaha Jupiter Z1 to Vega Force. Jupiter Z1 have 26 mm intake and 21 mm exhaust valve diameter, and Vega Force was the same.
So, this is Yamaha Jupiter Z1 engine valve clearance (when cold):
Intake valve: 0.08 mm - 0.12 mm
Exhaust valve: 0.08 mm - 0.12 mm
the procedure is a little bit different, you need to open cylinder head cover to adjust valve clearance, and the mark on the generator rotor maybe only the "I" line-shaped.
I hope this helps.
thank you very much for clear explanation

Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif so i guess if i change the o ring and adding the paper gasket on top of it, it'll be more effective?
+Munkee Munks The manuals recommend us to "just" change the O-ring, and as far as I know, it is faster and easier (or even cheaper!).
Good luck!
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif ahahaha. i agree is faster and cheaper. But the leaks is just driving me nuts! ive changed it 3 times now... genuine Honda o rings. 😂😂
+Munkee Munks Well, I understand, in that case you can add sealant to help the o-ring. Good luck 👍
When i turn the flywheel to Top dead center.. is it okay to adjust valve clearance if the marking on the cam timing is not in position..
+xander blythe It's called "top dead center" if the notches were aligned. So, it's highly recommend to align the notches on TDC position before valve clearance adjustment.
Thank you.
Thank you for your reply...
Do you have videos on how to set cam timing?
+xander blythe Oh, I haven't yet. But if I have time and opportunity I will make this video request. Thank you.
Why is my T mark wont allign with the notch.. the flywheel slips when i allign it on the notch
+xander blythe Yes, it may happen. But try hold for a while in align position. I hope it helps.
what is the sign if compression stroke in the flywheel sir
ty sir
+Antonio Tolentino By turning the flywheel, you can check the compression stroke (TDC position) by ensuring that the in & ex valves is not pressed by the rocker arm or the cam.
thanks for a very informative tutorial. may i know the clearance of honda beat110?
+Ephraim Paul Simpliciano Fuel injection or carburetor Honda Beat 110?
Carburator sir 2015 model
+Ephraim Paul Simpliciano Oh, in Indonesia Honda Beat 2015 is a carbureted engine. Where do you from?
But, anyway, this is the valve clearances:
Honda Beat (Carb.):
IN=0.16mm, EX=0.16mm (both, plus-minus 0.02mm)
Yeah its carburated sir. I'm from Philippines. Thanks a lot. This really helped me. God bless!
+Ephraim Paul Simpliciano You're welcome.
mantab bro....lanjutkan tambahan info yg lain
+hengky turnado Ok kang, trims utk dukunganny.
Thanks mate, great video.
+mercenaire2013 Oh thanks for your appreciation 👍
Hi bro, can you use 0.05 instead of 0.03 gap.
+mercenaire2013 In my case (I mean, my motorcycle), YES I can. My repair manual says 0.03 mm (+- 0.02 mm)
Thanks mate for this precision.
+mercenaire2013 You're welcome 👍
Hi, I adjusted my valve clearance. its a Honda Click. However, now my engine stalls/dies during idle or while running.
Recheck your adjustment. Is there something wrong?
Always check and adjust the valve clearance on the TDC compression.
Yes, that's might be the main problem. The electric current shouldn't jump through the cap.
Good luck with your work!
is there any changes if I replaced my stock camshaft to a higher lift camshaft.
+jeepney joyride Yes, you can replace your stock camshaft, but as far as I know, it would need different valve clearance (size).
Good luck 👍
Is there a gasket on the valve adjustment cover ?
+kevin denton Yes, there is a gasket on the cap.
If you adjust that. The noise can be gone?
+Denmark Belmoro If the noise is "really" come from relatively wide valve clearance (no other noise sources), I'm sure it would be gone regarding you adjust the valve clearance properly (standard/recommended size).
Good luck 👍
Is it only for Honda Engine? What about Yamaha X1/ Crypton Z? the same process?
+Tun Tun Naing Yah, especially it's for Honda Karisma 125, but I think its basic principle may be similar for Crypton Z.
Could you upload with Crypton/X1 ? There has so many video clips for Honda 110 or 125, but nothing to find out 110/115 Yamaha engines in UA-cam Sites.
Man, I felt very pleased about your generosity in answering my questions. Thanks you very much. Nice day!
+Ags Guimaraes No problem. You're welcome 👍
Thanks for sharing idol nice one video very informative idol
Thank you for your appreciation :)
What are the proper clearance for my honda 155 intake and exhaust, any idea sir , thank u. Phillipines
What type of Honda? Could you explain it with details?
Thank you.
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif honda tmx 155cc.
Oh, it's a Philippines model? I'm sorry, but I have no data about Honda TMX. I hope you can find it on the other resources.
Good luck.

so you mean, if I set the inlet valve with 0.03mm than I same for the exhaust valve too??
+Stephan Lopez You should follow repair manual for your particular motorcycle, it may have different specification. My Honda Karisma 125D have 0.03 mm valve clearance for both intake and exhaust valve (it based on repair manual).
but can i ask you a question. is your inlet valve and exhaust valve the same diameter or one of this two is bigger than the other??
+Stephan Lopez Unfortunately, there's only valve clearance in manual book, and do not include the valve diameter.
But if you ask the valve stem outside diameter, Honda Karisma 125 has 4.975-4.990 mm for IN, and 4.955-4.970 mm for EX. Yes, it's different size. But manufacturer recommends the same size for valve clearance.
Hey. What is the valve clearance of the Super cub 50 injector?
Sorry. Unfortunately I have no data about that particular bike.
good job man
+Oved Mejia Thanks 👍
Very informative informatio..
Do you have an idea of the valve clearance of rouser 135?
antatanga nia.common sense lang.any adjustment from 0.03 to 0.06.kung san kau komportable
all the clearance is .03 the intake and exhaust??? please answer me
+Khmer Rey Magto In this particular motorcycle, yes. It's 0.03 mm for both intake and exhaust valve.
i have a kawasaki max100 same with an90 cant find the valves clearance no manual .very nice video by the way gratz and greetings from greece
Unfortunately I don't have the repair manual for that particular bike. By the way, thank you so much for your appreciation.
is it ok to use .01 mm feeler gauge on a 125cc engine?
I think 0.01 mm is too narrow, in this video I use 125 cc engine too, and I adjust it to 0,03 mm. For more details, I suggest you to refer to repair manuals for that specific motorcycles. Thanks.
Thanks to this video. Btw is this applicable to yamaha mio/amore scooter? And .03 is universal standard clearance of valve? Thank you
+rex limbo Basically, this procedure is applicable to manual adjusted valve mechanism. And yes, to Yamaha Mio.
But the 0.03 mm size is not universal standard. Check your repair manual for that particular valve clearance size. Thank you.
Pls tell this video is related to tapped problem
+Harsh Rai I'm sorry, but I don't really understand what's your questions mean. Could you please explain your questions clearly?
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif i wanted to ask u that in this video the problem is related to tappet sound na
Try with simple steps, like checking the valve clearances, timing chain tensioner, etc.
how about suzuki skydrive125, what is the standard valve clearance
+Jenny Ferrer Suzuki Skydrive 125
In 0,04 -0,08 mm
Ex 0,09 - 0,16 mm
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif
thnk u sir 4 ur reply but im a little bit confused , some says i used in-.003 and ex-.004 what can u say about that? and by the way sir ur videos are great
+Jenny Ferrer The valve loses most of it's heat through the valve seat.
If you can't align the mark perfectly, try to remove the spark plug. Then try again to align the mark.
Good luck!
will this work on a yamaha sz-r sir, or different kinds of motorcycle needs different way of tuning-up? btw very nice video sir...
+xtian de castro Hei, thanks for your appreciation!
Actually, different engine may need different procedure or tuning specifications.
However, you can see your Yamaha engine, does it have "similar" design or mechanism with mine?
It is better if you use the repair manual for your particular motorcycle.
Good luck 👍
oh i see, thanks for your reply sir.!
+xtian de castro You're welcome 👍

Hello sir,I have the same motorcycle as yours. When the engine cold, the is no knocking sound, but when the engine is hot, there is a knocking sound from the head,is it okay?or do I need to setting the valve again?
Hello, thank you for your question.
So did you set the valve with the proper clearances already?
Good luck!
@@sekolahonlineteknikotomotif if I let it happen, would it make my engine broke or no?
what size of feller gauge for exaust?
It depends on what type of engine do you have. You should refer to the repair manual.
However, in my case on this video, the EX size is similar to IN.
sir can i ask to you what is the clearance of vega yamaha thank you and more power!
Thank you for your question.
Yamaha Vega valve clearances:
IN 0.05 - 0.10 mm
EX 0.08 - 0.13 mm
I hope it helps. Good luck!
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif thank you sir
You're welcome 👍
Tmx 125 alpha valve clearance ? how to adjust sir
They have the same adjusment principle as the demonstrated one in this video, even though TMX has different cylinder head design.
Unfortunately, I don't have the TMX's valve clearance size.
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif tnx sir
You're very welcome 👍
Intake is 0.3..how about the exhaust clearnce? Do you have video on honda xrm 125?
Unfortunately we don't have the video of Honda XRM. But you can use the main procedure on this video for your particular motorcycle. You only need to search the proper specification of your engine valve clearances.
Good luck!
Sekolah Online Teknik Otomotif ok thanks sir
You're very welcome 👍
if you dont have that 0.03 thing, what can I use?
+Syazwan Effendy It's highly recommended to use only feeler gauge. Maybe you can buy one from tool shop, or borrow from your friend. Thanks.
Use coke in can..cut it like the shape of filler guage.
+Monica Charma Have you ever measure it's thickness?
Syazwan Effendy . use "FEELING GAUGE" instead. Haha. It works for me.
Very helpful thankyou
