I never think I’ll watch the entire video on these… and then, all of the sudden, 30 minutes has gone by. 😂 Feels so good to watch these games that I couldn’t beat as a kid get dispatched so quickly. 🙌🏼 Also, loved the term “yolo jumping.” 😆
I thought this was one of the more easy games as a kid it was also one of the more interesting. There were so many confusing games with terrible controls this was a real stand out.
I played this game a few months before by accident finding that you could change weapons. The good old times when you were a kid and didn't read any manuals. (I assume the manual brings it up, but maybe it didn't).
@@linusgustafsson2629 Me too. I traded games with a friend and played for over a year before learning to switch weapons. With buster-only I could get to the Wily 1 part where you had to move the blocks and would try everything I could think of. With the pause-glitch trick the game is super easy; without it I would have trouble with the yellow devil.
So basically, it is easy if you just use pause buffering (not playing as developers intended). This is the only Mega Man game I really tried to beat as a kid, but was not able to (or only once, not sure). I did not know about pause buffering back then, and usually gave up on that cyclops robot (yellow devil as you called him).
The U Can Beat series shows them with and without the cheese. That's helpful for folks coming in now because most (all?) re-releases of this one eliminate the pause trick so it's not accessible to all players.
First off, I want to say that I love this new series, Ryu. Secondly, I would like for you to continue the Mega Man/Rockman series for your difficult videos, please? Mega Man 2, then 3, etc. I'd love to see how you break down the difficulty between each game. Thank you. :)
Would love to see you beat Zelda 2 for NES. Underrated game and gets a bad rap for being way too hard. The last couple bosses are pretty difficult for sure but I’ve beaten it a few times.
@@ordinaryalan that game took me a couple of years to beat I remember 😄 parents bought it for me when i was 8 and had to get the "nintendo power" strategy guide at some point for some of the later palaces and died countless times before finally completing it. Awesome game though 🙂
Great video. Regarding the mirror Mega Man-fight, I just used the regular weapon. It knocks him back and freezes him for a second, so you just keep firing at him. It was incredible easy once I understood it.
Presumably this game having a score system is a holdout from the arcade days when games generally didn't have endings, needed some way to keep track of how good you were Anyway, good stuff, never knew the Magnet Beam was chargeable, that alone makes the game a lot less headache-inducing, I'll have to keep that in mind when I eventually go back and try to finally beat this
Thank you my lovely Beardo. Following your careful tutelage, I was able to beat Megaman just now! It was still hard, but I felt like a hero afterwards. These hard-ass Nintendo games would have been a million times easier back in the day if you could just pull up a walkthrough video any time you wanted!
When I beat this game I didn’t use any exploits other than the save states that the anniversary collection on the 3ds had just though that was a little too cheap
YESSSS!!!! Ryu!!!!! Thank you for playing a Mega Man title again! Its such an underrated series and I'm really trying to get more people to talk about it. Also I found it funny you started with Guts man first. That was my go to choice as well [Him or Cutman] until I found out the "Actual" first robot master to vs is Bombman in terms of easiest run. Also , Also, quick mention in the water level boss of wilys castle, I would use my Mega buster first to get it down to half health then use guts arm to finish the job. This way if your health bar is low before you switch you don't have to waste Guts and have to face it without his weakness. You had no issues obviously but its a good tip for beginners!
Thanks a lot, this guide inspired me to start Mega Man 1 again, and I just defeated the Yellow Devil. No pause exploit, no quick saves. I went to the beginning of the stage after every game over, and it was annoying. However, it was super fun to learn the pattern and super rewarding to finally take that yellow thing down. Standby for updates, I hope the rest of the game won't take long. Upd: I finished it. Boy was it close, I was down to my last life. Both Wily machines weren't difficult at all, but I found it hard to keep my cool and have enough health by the time I got to the finale. Anyway, I'm real proud of myself for beating an NES game with no saves, and a pretty hard one at that. Your guides are great, you make it look really easy.
Great video, it would be more entertaining to watch you beat the bosses without the pause glitch. Having said that, I get the whole point if the video is to show an easier way to beat a hard game. Keep up the good work 👏
This video helped ALOT ty. I was always a fan of this version of mega man but being a n00b I always had a hard timing getting thru the 1st part of any of the levels
When using the pause glitch. Pause it until the damage sprite vanishes ( The point where your weapon hits ) Once it vanishes, unpause & immediately pause again. Takes a bit longer, but you'll have to fire less.
Love seeing all my old favorite childhood games in this series of yours! I never knew that everyone thought they were that difficult. Battletoads, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Batman, Megaman series, TMNT, and Blaster Master were some of my favorites! I remember the YoNoid game being tough at parts, Festers Quest as well but if you knew what to prepare for they weren't that bad. The game I had that made me throw the controller the most was Abadox. Double Dragon had some tough spots too but not impossible. All NES games had patterns. Even Punch Out, the game was all patterns.
I remember being unbelievably frustrated at that splitting cyclops monster near the end. It's amazing how much patience we had when a handful of NES cartridges was your entire video game library back then.
The Mega Man series were typically games that were rented. They were very much games that one could win in three days. First day figuring out how to beat each of the eight bosses. Second day doing so in the most efficient way to prepare for the final stages. Third day beating Dr. Wily. Worst case scenario, you wrote down your password, and rented the game again to beat it the next weekend. People seem to forget that most games were rented not owned. The NES didn't have many games designed to take a month or more to win. That concept didn't become typical until the 64 bit era, which is why they introduced memory cards.
UA-cam recommendations gets it right again. Cool channel. Love the presentation and your comments. The difficulty of hitting the Subscribe button was debunked very quickly.
17:41 My favorite way to beat this version of the Sniper Joe is to freeze him with the ice slasher when he lets his guard down. He'll stay frozen like that for a bit, leaving him wide open so you can pummel him with other weapons.
I would love to see you do Streets of Rage 2 for Sega Genesis/Master Sytem/Game Gear. Seeing someone beat it would be like seeing someone put the smackdown on my childhood bully. Vectorman, Golden Axe, and Metal Slug would be awesome as well if you want to exact some Ryuvenge on my behalf. Ps. There are 3 games in the retro Streets of Rage series (a fourth one came out recently that you can grab on Switch) and 7 Metal Slug games between '96 and '08, so lots of content if anybody else loves those games as much as I do. Also that pause buffer strat is sick af, and it makes these videos so much better that you include all those little exploits. Feels like talking to the kids on the playground about what secrets they discovered again (Shoutout to Mew hunting in that truck in Vermillion City/S. S. Anne).

I played this game a few months before by accident finding that you could change weapons. The good old times when you were a kid and didn't read any manuals. (I assume the manual brings it up, but maybe it didn't).
I had a hard time with the wiley stages when I was younger but once I figured out the weaknesses I was pretty good at it.
All mega mans are hard, this one just happens to have longer levels, so yes in a way it’s hardest
Ryu : Sup!
Me: clicks LIKE
ok this looks good already
I was super impressed with the Silver Surfer one, I would like to see him do Holy Diver
RoahmMythril did all of the classic NES Megman games Buster only no-hit which are pretty fun to watch.
Loving the series so far!
Someone out there grabbed the “I might have to take a “D” here…” line and posted it to the subreddit right?
I’m sick and doing universities for my job. I’m so glad you dropped this rn
Great series! It would be awesome to see these fights without the cheese, but I totally understand the perspective.
The U Can Beat series shows them with and without the cheese.
That's helpful for folks coming in now because most (all?) re-releases of this one eliminate the pause trick so it's not accessible to all players.
Dude love this channel and these series more than your main one. Hope you will continue with retro stuff for long while.
First off, I want to say that I love this new series, Ryu. Secondly, I would like for you to continue the Mega Man/Rockman series for your difficult videos, please? Mega Man 2, then 3, etc. I'd love to see how you break down the difficulty between each game. Thank you. :)
The pause glitch you showed on Iceman also works using the scissors against Elecman as well, makes Elecman a one-hit kill.
Would love to see you beat Zelda 2 for NES. Underrated game and gets a bad rap for being way too hard. The last couple bosses are pretty difficult for sure but I’ve beaten it a few times.
Are you talking about Thunder Bird and Dark Link in the Great Palace?
@@stacychamness9077 Yeah 100%. I’ve rage quit so many times while fighting those bosses haha
@@ordinaryalan that game took me a couple of years to beat I remember 😄 parents bought it for me when i was 8 and had to get the "nintendo power" strategy guide at some point for some of the later palaces and died countless times before finally completing it. Awesome game though 🙂
7:38 _Megaman X_ using the _Boomerang Cutter_ acquired from *Boomer Kuwanger* in _Tower Stage._
Would love to see one of these for Mega Man II, as well. Heck, all of the Mega Man games.
I'm not convinced that showing people how to abuse glitches as a necessity is debunking the difficulty.
When MM9 came out I went back and played through each one, one by one. The first 3 were my favorites, do you think you'll do the others?
Great video. Regarding the mirror Mega Man-fight, I just used the regular weapon. It knocks him back and freezes him for a second, so you just keep firing at him. It was incredible easy once I understood it.
Presumably this game having a score system is a holdout from the arcade days when games generally didn't have endings, needed some way to keep track of how good you were
Anyway, good stuff, never knew the Magnet Beam was chargeable, that alone makes the game a lot less headache-inducing, I'll have to keep that in mind when I eventually go back and try to finally beat this
Been playing this game since I was 6, had no idea. 😂😂
Beat the game WITHOUT the pause glitch
Your video game skills are on-point but nothing will ever compare to that amazing beard
Waiting for battletoads.. but I don’t think it’s possible to debunk that one
You did your Eskimo brother dirty…in more ways than one.
Imagine complaining about using an exploit to beat a nearly 40 year old game
And there's so many whiners, too! As if a single one of these elitists wouldn't have used it every single time back in elementary school
"Debunking the difficulty" *uses a glitch to beat the game*
Truth
Yeah. Might as well use a game genie.
Breakfast with Ryu time again.
"It's not that hard" then proceeds to following a guide and practices beforehand. Then uses glitches to beat two bosses.
You should call this “so difficult I need to cheat”
Great video, it would be more entertaining to watch you beat the bosses without the pause glitch. Having said that, I get the whole point if the video is to show an easier way to beat a hard game. Keep up the good work 👏
5:42 I've been calling these "Pac-Men" ever since I was a kid, too. 😅
Loved this episode it was enjoying to watch. I could never beat this game but since I watched this maybe I'll try again.
This series is fantastic. V glad I found it. I'd love to see the other Ninja Gaiden games. Battletoads would be a good one, too.
Cheers Ryu, this is a great series and this game fits in perfectly.
Hahaha. I love it
17:41 My favorite way to beat this version of the Sniper Joe is to freeze him with the ice slasher when he lets his guard down.
S. Anne).
I love Your Debunking the Difficulty series, I'm a subscriber to Your other channel and just discovered this one, You've earned my subscription all over again. 🙂👍
8:51 Fun Fact:
Because you can miss this *_(mandatory)_* item if you don't have the super arm, you can revisit every stage. This feature wouldn't be brought back until Mega Man 4, except in this game, you still have to beat the boss again.
@Ryu, ever played Rush'n Attack on NES? (Relevant title right now...) I'd love to see you play that one, man!
Incredible. I finished MM1 when I was in junior high, probably took me 2-3hrs. I remember continuing at Yellow Devil for many many times. You make it look easy, and I want to do it again 30+ years later
only in Megaman X you can pick up powerups with boomer kuwanger weapons
