To answer your question about how long it takes to put together. They commit their summers to “move in”. In early to mid May they go to their spring training rehearsal sites. Spring training is about a month of 12 hour days filled with countless hours of basics and building fundamentals along with learning the show. The tour starts about the last week of June and is filled with traveling thousands of miles from city to city across the country, while still rehearsing and doing a few competitions a week sometimes with still rehearsals every day. Then in early august every corps from across the country meets at Lucas Oil Stadium for finals week where they all compete for the DCI World Championship
To add onto this, Corps usually begin recruiting members as early as November. Usually through February. By that point, they'll usually have all the people they want. They have once a month camps (1 full weekend) usually from January-May until they Move In for spring training!
the members are chosen with auditions. After that, they have to practice on their own and do camps during the school year. When school is out, they begin the intensive training for the drill and ensemble. They practice 12 hours a day for the entire summer while riding buses from show to show.
You should check out the UIL State High School Band Finals Nov 5th & 6th in San Antonio. The Bands Of American event Oct 5th in Bedford will also be nice. The bands perform once in the qualifying round and then again if they make it to the final round(top 10 or 12 bands only).
Funny thing, they get music after 2 weeks of going through basics of summer and they get like 3 days to put music and drill together. For the rest of the summer a whole lot of cleaning. They be on that field like they living there
Bruh, when I went for a corps the opener was literally part of the audition materials 7 months before move-in. Yeah they basically live in a constant cycle of practice, drills, and cleanup in June and throughout tour, but they don't get the music in the middle of all that.
@@jon4766it’s not a lie. When I marched corps after fundamentals and memorizing the music we put the show together in a single week, then it was clean clean clean the rest of the season.
