I Bought the CHEAPEST Japanese Kei Truck on Facebook!

  • I bought a Kei Truck! Specifically a 1992 Mitsubishi Mighty Mits, powered by a ~600cc 3 cylinder engine making about 30 horsepower. We're going to build it into a go kart hauler and general shop truck for the CarsandCameras Motorplex! The question is- should we build it low and fast with a street bike engine, or lift it and make it a recovery vehicle?
    Thanks for Watching!

Swap to 3 cyl diesel, upgrade the suspension enough, use a winch with an arm to make a mini crane, and use it as your tow truck.

You guys need to turn it into an AWD mobile workshop! With like a generator, tools foldable roof, some sort of planks to put on the ground if you need to fix something in a muddy place. Basically, making it EPIC!

I've been watching lots of your videos. It's brought back memories of a mini bike and a go kart that I cobbled together in summer school shop classes. I'm 62 and those shop classes were so long ago. You have me thinking about getting a welder and plasma cutter and a tubing bender and giving it another go round. This time money won't be as much of a problem as it was when I was in high school. Thanks for the inspiration.

A local car dealership had kei trucks as parts delivery vehicles, they were fitted with bullbars. The drivers would clamp off the rear brake line and brake heavily in order to try to get them to roll forwards and stand momentarily on the bullbar before falling back (hopefully) onto it's wheels.

Ive had mine since 2004. It s a 99 Mitsubishi MiniCab. I had to get a bonded title and have it DOT inspected for all saftey functions. It still runs like a top. 110000KMS.

Rest in Peace Headphone users at the beginning. You should have it for when a kart needs a towing and make it road legal, Tool truck, and a Camper

this is the first left hand drive kei truck i've ever seen. i've got a mitsubishi mighty max truck. it's basically a dodge d50. these kei trucks are pretty good at what they were designed for. in japan they are the standard pick up truck. they're more useful and cheaper than a side by side. some of them have dump beds, are 4x4 and have ac. most parts are available online, and they are fairly simple. i'd say you got a hell of a deal with a twofer 2k.

4 wheel drive recovery would be great with the generator and a welder in the back may be an ice Box for cold snacks. And don't forget a wench on the front.

I do like the idea of the wench but let her sit in the cab!!

Those kei trucks are pretty cool and seem to be really growing in popularity. Looks like it ran pretty good for a thirty year old vehicle that probably has mostly original parts. I see the steering wheel is on the left hand side though. I wonder what country it was manufactured in.

If it's going to be a recovery vehicle you'll need some sort of crane or lift to get carts into the bed.

These trucks make great onsite mobile tool trucks. Greensboro, NC uses a small fleet of these style trucks for their work at TZO WWTP. Some have vinyl bed covers, most have multi drawer tool boxes, a couple even have welders, torches, chemical pumps, etc. They are way more efficient driving around site up close to the various equipment that needs work, than a full size street truck. Putting a small diesel driveline out of a Kabota RTV, or tractor, with a winch out front, and a rig up a mini tow rig hook out back, would make this a beast. Adding some old school Toyota SR5 leaf spring suspension, hubs and 31" tires, could make this a 1/2 ton rig for non stop track use fun.

More power, make it road legal, winch behind the cab with an A-frame up off the back end, there's your recovery tow hookup!!
Whatever ye do it will be mental, wish I was there cos it's gonna be a fun build!!!

I am glad to have seen this video. The undercarriage shots showing just how small the driveline components actually are, and how slow they are. I would think building an S-10 or Ranger or any old Toyota or Nissan pickup from the same year, would result in a much better truck for less money when it's fully roadworthy, which , these are far short of roadworthy and on any highways, you are a slow moving vehicle like a tractor with a line of cars behind. Thanks again. I can cross these things off my list now for sure.

These are officially imported in to the UK, badged, suzuki carry, or bedford rascal with i think a 970 cc in the UK. I was in the Royal Navy when i was younger, we used the pick up version in the Dockyards. Fun little thing, even the 970cc one has no go in first gear!

Hi guy as a fellow mini truck fan I was drawn to your video. Can wait to see what you do with it! I've built two of these myself both with engine swaps. Since coming across your mini truck video I've gone back through your back catalogue of videos and I've really enjoyed what you have been up to and how both of you gel together and your it'll be fine attitude is right in line with me and my build style. Keep up the good work guys looking forward to the mini truck build 👍🏼

Cool mitsy! Love the digger coming back to the shop. You guys should do a retro car hauler recovery vehicle, like the old hot rodder cab over semis. Then run the big vtwin in the dragster with a blower on alcohol. Patina cars and camera logo on doors of truck would be cool.
