How to clean telescope eyepieces

- I show you how to clean telescope eyepieces in this episode. While telescope eyepieces are generally maintenance-free, it’s good practice to keep your eyepieces clean. Over time, the oils on our skin will make the housing of our eyepieces sticky and this can attract dirt. Oils can also get on the lens which makes for a blurry view.
Here are the tools I will use in this video:
1. Squeeze bulb air blower
2. Brush: amzn.to/2Cgd0dB
3. Cotton swabs
4. Microfibre cloth
5. Alcohol
6. Lenspen lens cleaner: amzn.to/2Cgd0dB

Why arent you uploading anymore?
I hope everything is going well for you!
A video about cleaning the primary mirror would be great !
I included you in my “Other UA-camrs” top ten favorite astro channels. It’s good to have you back on here. Clear skies.
Thanks for having me on that list, Garnett, I'm honoured. And it's great to be back.
@@NewAstronomer pls do more videos
Point of observation: I noticed at time marker 5:03 that you knocked the dust from your brush by snapping it across your fingertips. I would not recommend doing that for the same reason you clean your eyepiece body- finger grit and oils. Better to just snap it back and forth on the edge of the table or some other stiff and clean surface. Just saying...
"See you next year"
Hasn't uploaded for three years later...

This video is quite old. It will not be missing of proper advice. Capturing analog information is something Smarter Every day 2 has been doing. I spent all day today watching analog camera recovery and learning about Kodak chemical process. All this stuff is so incredibly cool.
Hey! Haven't seen any new uploads from you. Hope all is well in your life. If not. let me know and I will put your intentions on my prayer list. Your videos are so helpful. For myself I have a basic Meade StarPro AZ102 telescope. I live on the second floor in an apartment and from my balcony
Doesn’t the alcohol damage the glass coating ? Thanks for the awesome content !
can damage your car too. so don't drink and drive!
@@hughmongus1233 LMAO 😂😂
Well Michael glad to have you back as always. Nice tips in the video, thanks man.✌
I appreciate it, thanks.
Is the lenspen an optional tool or you can use it as an alternative for earbuds and alcohol?
Mike please make more videos. Thank you
Nice video on cleaning lenses. I use the Canon Deluxe Photo Backpack 200EG to carry most of my gear. It has 2 side pockets, a large front zipper pocket for my sky chart and hand controller and about 9 dividers for my lenses, cords, powermates, diagonal, my zwo camera and polemaster. I also have the same equipment as you in the AVX and ES 102 APO. Keep the videos coming!
That looks like a good backpack. By the way, you shot a spectacular video of the Great American Eclipse showing Solar prominences. Well done.
We need you back.
Best is 90% Ethanol an 10% destillation Water in a bottle with Kimberly Clark wipes no.7552 to Clean.
No Stripes etc...!!!
Isopropanol leaves streaks and residues. The Process must be repeated several times.
I totally agree with you Don
still waiting on your experience with the es-102 buddy.. hope you are in good health
Great video. Very helpful. Ken Wheeler (Angry Photographer) showed a similar method for cleaning camera lenses too.
Why aren't you doing videos 😢
Come back bro I loved ur content
Please do more videos!
i love his reflector Telescope
Can you make more videos?
I don't have cleaning alcohol. Can I use Scotch Whisky?
Would alcohol be safe for plastic lens, like a celestron 10mm? Ty
Can denatured ethanol be used instead of Isopropyl alcohol?
Zara Hall ever find out? I’m curious myself
Don says it's actually preferable. 90% ethanol 10% distilled water.
well atm all i have are plossles. i open them up, wash the glass in warm water and Dawn, rinse in distilled water and alcohol, blow dry with a compressor (@30psi) clean any dust with a satin cloth - re assemble - good to go.
Thanks for sharing your advice. Clear skies!
great videos as always, how do you like that 24mm ES eyepiece?
They have been awesome. I love the large field of view. Thanks for watching.
You haven't uploaded a new video for a long time now. Are you okay?
Sir please tell us why astronomers use red light I've always seen them strapping a red light to their heads
It doesn't effect your eyes in the dark like 'white' light does
@@MexximusUK thanks bro
Plssss come back
Cool😉😉 channel Bro,I subscribed
Scrubbing the glass back and forth drags dust across the glass, one stroke, new q-tip, repeat.
Well thank info
Hello sir

@Steve H. They have been working out really well for me. I actually need to get a few more.
Lol you cleaned the brush with wipes on your greasy hands! Just letting ya know that is no no :-)
Master Grade cleaning session.
My telescope has been sitting in the basement for 20 years and has dust all over it, including the eye piece.
Next Come back : cleaning the primary!
Hey new astronomer could you please help me when i look at stars through my telescope and use the focuser and focus in and out the star just changes from a regular star and then i can see the spider in my telescope and when i put my hand in front i see that too reply if u need me to explain it better why does this happen though
William Burgess That happens due to focusing. Please mention your tele type.
Refractor or reflector.

hello good sir, could you help me, i have a telescope and thx to your vids i know how to use it but is it normal that when i look at stars there quit small.. and not very different from looking at it with the naked eye, but when i look on others videos they get AMAZING views with cameras rather then telescopes. are cameras better? am i doing something wrong? Please help, p.s sorry i ask heaps of questions i am just a noob
If you're expecting views full of color, then you will be disappointed. Stars, when viewed through a telescope, look no different to the naked eye, maybe a bit brighter with a bit of color. Cameras have something called exposure, which is where all of those beautiful images come from.
thanks very much, i dont think my telescopes broken anymore :)
NP. I'm a beginner as well, and I also bought a telescope. So far, I've only viewed the Orion nebula and the Moon. Takes a bit of getting used to.
Meh.....i just put the damn thing in the dishwasher.

I think your telescope needs to be collimated. I have a collimation video, but if you have problems doing that, may be you can join a local astronomy club and they can help you with this.
