Great take! I agree with you on just about everything. I can see the iphone being great on long hikes where you're limited on space and weight, or if you're traveling and want to be discreet with your filming... maybe in sketchier locations where you don't want to be seen with an expensive camera and lens... Or maybe you just don't feel like luggying a heavy camera + lens around, it's a great alternative. But as far as replacing a camera, I don't think so ... not for me anyway.
I hear you, but mirrorless is a pain for travel or family and nights out with friends. Blackmagic app makes sense and maybe a telephoto lens on the iPhone that fits in pocket or fanny pack.
I will just never find any satisfaction in giving over all control and staring at a screen at arms length to compose. For general shooting, at least. For some people though, it's an absurdly useful and convenient tool that just keeps getting better. Even I can appreciate having a rocket sauce camera just hanging out in the pocket 100% of the time.

Great video man! thanks so much for this, I was wondering if I should go for a phone or camera, and now I know the answer!
If you’re wanting to learn the basics, a phone will work. But if you’re serious and wanna do it professionally I’d start with a camera

Totally agree. There’s something yucky about it 😂 I also just love cameras
You could play a very convincing Lord Farquad if they ever make a live action Shrek movie.
