      Adam Savage’s Tested
      Adam when you watch the slow-mo at 18:42 do you see how every other ping pong ball is hitting the one in front of it? I guess from the one behind it taking the most of the force it's still accelerating while the one in front is slowing down, is there any way that can be avoided? Please Adam I know you can come up with an answer/solutions. I've built this to my best capabilities but my accuracy is pretty much nonexistent past two feet

      i want a live mythbusters reunion with you saying 'mythbusters assemble!' and you and jamie hugging and tori tripping on jamie's vodka, Grant riding a taun taun and kari bringing thermite to see how it burns (again). You watch old mythbusters episodes with Tori flinching at seeing him trip over and over again, Grant doubting his new life, you with jamie building some sort of cannon and kari jumping in despair

      Tested was started by Will Smith and Norman Chan, and Adam and Jamie joined a bit later on. It has nothing to do with with mythbusters or discovery channel. It's basically talk about science and diong fun build projects. Also Kari, Tori and Grant are not a part of Tested. KGT appear on a Netflix show called "White Rabbit Project" if you want to see more of them. :)

    I have so much respect for Adam. He is one of the few wealthy and/or famous people, that I am aware of anyway, that uses his money purely to have an amazing shop and to fulfill his hobbies. Don't get me wrong from the inside of his home it's extremely nice but you can tell he doesn't give a shit about all the bullshit of "look at my 10 Lamborghinis in my multi million dollar mansions." He just wants to be able to make things and not worry about if he has the tools or materials to do so. What I am trying to say in a less convoluted way, is that even if he wasn't as wealthy as he is now, he would still have a shop, just maybe smaller and maybe take longer to get to the level he is at now. The only difference that money and fame has afforded him is to reach this level faster.

    well, if the tube with the ping pong balls was angled, lets say 45 degrees back, the balls would auto load and you wouldn't need to cover the top of it, there is a phisics property that i can't remember the name of, it causes a stream of air to suck from a tube placed in a similar fashion than to what i described

    Using the bleed air to push the ammo from the magazine you could essentially make the magazine as long and as shaped as you wanted to in any orientation, parallel to the barrel, spiraling around the barrel, etc.

    • @gorillaau
      @gorillaau 8 років тому +1

      Dylan Raymond It was a quick build.. hence the auxillary air tube was overly long (cut quickly). And the dumb mistake of not considering if the balls might go up and out. I reckon that he would have spent the better part of a full day thus far.

    • @k0nidias
      @k0nidias 7 років тому +9

      I was thinking about it and yeah, it would be good to get a hose that ping pong balls could fit in and then you could just fill it full and wrap it for maximum ammo storage.
      I'd also want to tweak just how fast they are firing out... some type of regulator to allow for maximum pressure and spacing of the shots. I could see some of the balls shot out faster than others and were literally hitting the slower ping pong balls mid-air.

    • @aritakalo8011
      @aritakalo8011 6 років тому +17

      Gadget Addict well depending on the plastic, one could recycle the shavings. Though would require a shavings collection system. Problem often with 3D prints specially extruded plastic ones is strength. Specially delaminating. Print it too weak or wrong material, it cools wrong, the barrel might straight shot off, when adapter delaminates. Probably not under this since it is only blower and not a pressure system.

    Hello Adam. If you are using air pressure to feed the ammo, you no longer need gravity. Why not try mounting the feed tube underneath the barrel, like the magazine of a shotgun and use a Ubend to attach to your feed slot at the breach end. It would be compact, easier to reload, easier to handle, and the air would feed the ammo rather than gravity. You can also put the air tube into a bung that would both feed air, and cap the end of your ammo tube and you just pop it out to reload then pop it back in. :)

    • @imdeadserious6102

      Matthew McLaren simple funnel hoppers simply don't work with a lot of designs. it would need an area at the bottom to be designed to feed them into the bottom of the funnel and into the tube. making it much more difficult and much more of a trial and error type build. it's a one day build after all. function and simplicity above all else is a great way to go for projects like this. stuff like that would often be additional modifications.

    So, using the air to make the ping pong balls enter the chamber makes it so the gun isnt gravity fed, which means you could make a large drum magazine or other style magazine that is better efficiency with space, and have it fed by air, and also put a quickly removable fitting somewhere on the line so that you can quickly swap out magazines. With some nice paint job you could make this into a legit movie prop

    • @DaCrazyDingo

      DaCrazyDingo oh so the last ball has the highest speed.

    • @Syncubus
      @Syncubus 8 років тому +7

      Not necessarily the 'last' ball. It probably cycles based on the length of the barrel. Some balls will be faster than others based on the pressure (positive or negative) caused by the preceding ball (which also has a variable speed). Tuning the length of the barrel to optimize this cycle might be an option.

    • @jimmygonzales7160
      @jimmygonzales7160 8 років тому

      djAnakin I think it has to do with the fact that some of them don't "spin" some might get shot straight out. For example, a pool ball gets hit to the pout where it just slides across the table, that ball will move slower than a ball that spins foward

    • @seb4sti4n666
      @seb4sti4n666 8 років тому +3

      Might be that the air in the front of the first ball is too dense, so it slow down, but the second one get easier time because the first one is a airshield for it.

As a note to the editor, when you have the flicker from slow-mo filmed with low-frequency ballasts you can fix it in post by duplicating the layer, offsetting the upper layer by 1 frame and setting its opacity to 50%. Simple funnel geometries don't work with ping-pong ball feeds; and they don't just sometimes jam; they jam right away; one or two balls and then jam. Table-tennis robot makers (such as Stiga) have had this problem since the 70's. They invariably settle on some kind of rotary slotted agitator at the bottom of the bin, or some other kind of mixer-upper.

    Hi Adam, Great toy. Here's what it needs: Attach the small tube from the end of the barrel about an inch from the end, instead of from the breach. That way the air pressure to the magazine is not constant but only at the last moment, just as a ball is leaving the barrel. That will allow the first ball to gain its velocity before the next ball is introduced to the barrel. As it is now, the next ball is being forced in too soon behind the first. When two balls are in the barrel at one time, there is a vacuum between the faster ball and the slower one behind it. This slows the first one back down just before it leaves the barrel and it can't recover its speed. That's why the ball following then often hits it in the air. This change should give you much higher velocity, consistency and accuracy.

    There needs to be a 5 gallon water jug for the loader.. fit like 200 or more balls in it.
