I got my shims in from McMaster Carr last night and it took 4 on my press for the 223 to reliably feed. for everyone looking to get these, I ordered: 98055A513 1074-1095 Spring Steel Ring Shim, 0.2mm Thick, 70mm ID, Packs of 5. Thank you for the heads up on these! Your videos have saved me a lot of headaches getting this press dialed in and resolving some of the gremlins with it.
Thanks so much for this video! It's been a major frustration for me on .45 ACP loads. I just got the bullet feeder and now Ill add the shims to really speed up my operations.
This is good info, I myself went the 3d printed route that ads that little bumper that sandwiches under the case feeder. I have some precision measuring tools from my career working for a car manufacturer so I may just measure mine out and maybe shim it as well. They should include these shims with each shell plate.
Just FYI, I had the problem of the case (9mm) hanging on the frame during the ejection phase and locking up the stroke but instead of pushing the ejector arm back/counter clockwise, I pushed it forward/clockwise while tightening the screws down. This seemed to start pushing the loaded round out just a little early and it helped it miss the frame. Did not seem to be a problem with 223 but as with all mechanical things, they are finicky and try it both ways if your having that problem. Got it running well and about to finish up 25k of 9mm. Hopefully that will last my 2 sons more than a couple years. 😅Thank you for this Video. 🤠
Very good tip & video! Although this, together with all the other tips on the FA press, is something that the producers of the press should correct automatically ...
I contacted FA and they said there is a machining tolerance issue from the facility overseas where they are machined. I got the shim set from McMaster Carr and it resolved the issue for the most part. The only issue I am having is when sizing 223 and 300blk using the shims, the shell plate is having issues sizing consistantly. I screw my sizing die all the way down to the shell plate and they gage high. I am assuming it is from the die pushing down the shell plate in the sizing station. I have just been sizing all my rifle brass on mt Redding T7 so I know I am getting properly sized cases. And I also have prep work before final loading anyways.
The shell plate tilts like crazy even without using shims. Randall’s suggestion to use dies in every station isn’t realistic, the plate has downward movement which doesn’t mean the opposite side is moving upward. A die there would not fix this. It’s just a flexy press and only suitable for straight wall pistol reloading. Trust me.
@Silverback165 funny, I own three and have no issues. Once the dies are all even it pushes the shell plate down evenly as well, works no different than any other progressive including the 4 hornady AP presses I own. If you have inconsistency in anything, you need to go back through your set up. I have had no issues with 9mm, 40, 45acp, 223 or 308.
@ True but the shell plates and the platform should not be one of them. LEE wouldn’t sent something like that out. That’s definitely a 3RD world quality control.
It's not about QC, but rather tolerances. Luckily here in Europe to buy such shims is no problem and easily available on many places. Found out yesterday when install Ing my x-10 for.223 that I have ja s, used 3 shims but still ja s, will have to use 5 probably and probably 3d print the bumper too. It's small part and about 10 minutes to print so no problem
@jasonskipper8965 the shell plate has a sealed bearing in the center which is the actual movement you see, it's very important to use a die in every hole adjusted properly and that keeps the shell plate even on the down stroke
@@bragginrightsprecisionrelo346 are your instructions not to cam over and actually back the each die (esp sizing) quarter of a turn back still valid? Asking specifically about .223. Plan on using dillon trim die and trimmer in station 3. Should receive the press by tuesday
So my press came today. And I had to call Scheel and ask if they can send a new in the box press. The one they sent me was a return. Gun power all over the press nuts bolts all over the box . So there customer service were awesome. Sent pictures. So there sending me a new phone n the box . But now won’t have it after the new year .
@stevealoia well that sucks, I recently ordered a Lyman turret press from scheels and it was all skinned up, had pipe wrench marks on the handle near the threads, the threads on the handle were all caked up with crap....called Lyman, they literally could care less and refused to do anything about it even though the paperwork in the box says not to return the press to the retailer and to call them...called scheels and they said they would refund me or exchange it but couldn't guarantee the replacement would be any better...this tells me scheels sells returned merchandise.

I just taped a little card stock to the ejector, it’s enough to start pushing the case out earlier so it doesn’t bind on the case frame.
just ordered it....thanks
Do you have a website or link you could share? I'd like to order one as well

@MealTeam6_ you need dies in all stations, if you have them all adjusted correctly the shell plate can not tilt on the center bearing

How about measuring the height difference before you remove the shell plate?
@ancientorder4645 ofcourse you can, but the vast majority of reloaders do not own a dial indicator so showed doing it manually.
Looking at videos to see what others are saying before I purchased the X-10. Why should you have to buy 3rd party parts to get your press to function?
@MikeDelozier-k4f there is not a press in existence that someone hasn't made 3rd party parts to fix inherent issues...not one.

HI, COULD YOU MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT THAT F1 IN THE BACKGROUND WITH A TYPE OF FUZZER
@@Monthay_ipsc type of fuzzer?
Any chance you can drop the part number from McMaster on that shim kit?
great big picture pops up with the part number at the 1 minute mark
Great,
Just when I had high hopes about abandoning all my LEE garbage
This is why the Dillion and Mark 7 stuff is so expensive kids…
Cause it works!!!
Might be a little easier to use a dial indicator and a magnetic base to figure out what size shim adjustment you need
@joelgeiser675 how many people have a dial indicator on their bench? Most common reloaders do not which is why I showed how to do it the way I did.

Randall, do you have the size of those shims from mcmaster? Or do you have a part number, thanks?

I'm trying to read the discription on the bag of shims and it's a little out of focus. Can you give us the part number again?
I think I've found it now.
Could, you shared the website so i can order these shims?
can you please gives the number one the package so we can order it. thank you
