    Andre Drummond has been a beast on the court, gobbling up rebounds and tipping balls in from all angles. Here is the definitive breakdown to explain how coach Stan Van Gundy has employed his spread offense to give Drummond room to attack the glass and get good post up position.

    I coach 16 year olds, first year as a coach there. And we have a similar who's similar to drummond. Very strong and big for a kid his age but he also lacks the fundamentals needed. He's puttup great numbers (18.5 pts and 14 boards) for us, but he's a stubborn guy. He knows what works for him and he's not interesting in change. But he's opened up more and more.

    Everything you pointed out about his FT shooting is exactly what a shooting coach would demonstrate right off the bat.
    But like, in a professional environment, shouldn't that have been dealt with ages ago? I really don't understand how professional basketball players can ignore the FUNDAMENTALS to shooting a free-throw. In your example, he seems to have broken every rule they teach in the basics of basketball.
    I know he is extremely large with large hands, but the feet are the guide mostly.

      +BBALLBREAKDOWN coach, does hand size matter?

    • @Hanharrftw
      @Hanharrftw 9 років тому

      Hand size technically DOES NOT MATTER.
      The common reason brought up for poor free-throw shooters that are big men is that they have big hands.
      But as I said and as coach mentioned, the feet are the guide to where you shoot.
      Fun fact: when defending great shooters like Curry, the trick is to keep them off their feet.

      +Marc M Think of the number of 6'11 people in the world and compare that the number of 6'3 people in the world. Obviously there are less people who stand 7 feet tall so if you want to be a PG in the nba, you need more skill to set yourself apart from the pack. Now if u are an athletic 6'11 center, you have less competition to compete in the nba. Naturally , the taller players are going to be less skilled and they tend to not practice skills such as shooting when they see that they are already so succesful without that kind of skill. Fast forward to their nba career, they now lack that skill that takes copious amounts of dedication and time to ingrain into muscle memory. this is why shaq, deandre jordan, and andre drummond cant shoot above 50% at the stripe

    I feel like shooting coaches in the NBA dont do enough changes. Certain guys shoot with bad form for their entire career, some guys shoot terribly yet they dont change their form completetly. Like Shaq and howard, they both shoot/shot the same they did for years.

    • @Plague_Doc22
      @Plague_Doc22 9 років тому

      Oh yeah coach, Jennings coming back, do you expect him to be traded before the summer as hes obvously not staying? I would think so and if so, where? I think the Knicks could use him really well.

    • @MetalMaster101
      @MetalMaster101 9 років тому

      They won't trade Jennings, Pistons don't have a reliable backup, and they lack a playmaker off the bench. If the Pistons are in position to make the playoffs, they will keep him as a much needed weapon. Pistons are the worst bench in the league right now. So they would be stupid to give Jennings away unless they are able to get quality pieces that make them better. But after a ACL injury it's hard to believe any team will want Jennings until he proves himself. I would bet he finishes the season in Detroit.

    • @Plague_Doc22
      @Plague_Doc22 9 років тому

      Rattmaster86 Pistons know that Jennings will walk after the season. They signed Reggie to a long term deal as their main pg. Jennings is way too good to be a backup.

    • @MetalMaster101
      @MetalMaster101 9 років тому +1

      Plague Doc There are a lot of players in the league that have the skills to be a starter, but have excepted a bench role. Whether Jennings can except that, I don't know. But if the Pistons are playoff bound, expect Jennings to be the 6th man off the bench, even if they know he'll walk. He will be very valuable to them. Also, it's not likely a team will want to trade assets for a guy like Jennings coming off an injury. Other teams would rather see what he can do with the Pistons, then sign him as a free agent. Why would any team give up good talent (which the Pistons will ask for) if they can simply add him to their roster without losing anybody? It's not like he's some player that teams are dying to have. The only way I see Jennings being traded, is if a contender looking for a bench boost wants him. Other than that, I don't see anybody making a play for him.

    • @Plague_Doc22
      @Plague_Doc22 9 років тому

      Rattmaster86 Jennings was balling before his injury. He's gonna be a starter on a team like the Knicks next season.

    He is better than De Andre Jordan. Offensively much better than him, defensively more effective than him as well. De Andre is probably a little more athletic but i remember a lot of games when he got lost on both ends of the floor finishing with 5 points 8 rebounds etc. P&R with CP3 and De Andre either finishes with a lob to De Andre or CP3 takes a shot or distribute. Drummond can duck in for post positions and finish with hooks after P&R's, he doesn't just catch lobs. Also Drummond is better at putbacks. I'm surprised how De Andre Jordan has so few putbacks considering his size and athleticism.

      IrishThug7 Those stats are absolutely bullsh*t. When he's out bench is playing versus bench of opposition. That means Pistons bench is playing good D and since opposition bench is not as good as their starting 5 in terms of offense, it's usual for that to happen. These stats are for geeks who don't know basketball or can't understand it while watching it and need a number to understand it.

    Coach how about East - West balance ? Everyone was talking crap about East like it doesn't even exist. Eastern teams have better records than Western teams. Other than Warriors and Spurs and OKC no team looks scary for Cavs, Hawks, Bulls and maybe even Heat. Houston has a lot of problems, Memphis is okay, not great, LAC is in a hole right now, Dallas started out well but many counted them out. Media's darlings NOP is struggling heavily. West is called bloodbath but for last 2 spots I don't see any blood bath. It will be struggling teams trying to make it out to 7th or 8th. It's not like the last year... Mark my words, Eastern conference's 8th seeded team will at least have the same win % with western conference's 8th seed.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 9 років тому

      +Adem Demirdag so you are making that analysis based on the early season. C'mon now. Those initial 3 teams you mentioned from the West are just getting their December started and hopefully roll in healthy to March-April. 3-4 months changes a lot for some teams. Last season people were crapping on the Cavs start early in the season and thinking _they may not make it to the playoffs_. Post ASB, Cavs were looking very good and were ready for that deep post season run.
      Besides the real blood bath happens when West teams buckle down and prepare in April. Memphis will be a mid seed team but they will play gatekeeper to a team that isn't prepared for them. LAC may be lackluster but they have too much talent NOT to make it to the playoffs and maybe they turn it up a notch then if they get their bench issues fixed. The East is just pure pageantry. Sure the Hawks will look good and maybe be a mid seed depending on how Miami does. But what if they don't have an answer post season to the better balanced teams like Miami or worst, Lebron James? Hell unless any of the 7 teams that get in the playoffs have a legit offensive answer and a defensive answer to Lebron James, they don't matter. Cavs if healthy will have a cake walk to the Eastern Finals as usual while the West goes on a bloody shoot out and whoever makes it out will be stronger and tougher and hopefully healthy.
