5C Collet Chuck Backing Plate Lightweighing

Successes are overrated. Failures are fun. Like an unanticipated 180 in the shrine. Follow me to see a new backing plate being born - or resurrected :) in the Shrine to accommodate a long awaited precision collet chuck. Let's see how many ways the Chinese blind apprentice can screw things up.

Fantastic work. You did a superb job of reworking this backing plate. My expectation with most things from overseas is it represents a "kit" that is about 80% correct and will need improvement if it matters. I often weigh the cost of my time and need against the savings and experiences I will receive by buying less expensive items. 😂 Sometimes I simply pay the extra to avoid the rework. Unfortunately I currently have a shop full of "kits" that need attention someday 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
3 hours to drill 6 holes is exactly how fast I could do it too. Quality setups take so much time but will yield the precision you invest. 👍👍😎👍👍

Thank you Joel. I hope you'll get to the end of your "kits" one day. It seems like we'd need 2-3 lives to complete all the projects we're pursuing.

It seems to me that the only way those original holes were that far off is if they were threaded by hand. Nice job on the fix!

Good job! Is the 5c collets also from China?

Hi BlackLeopard. The collets are a mixed bunch. There is hardinge, but there are others too. I don't have a full set yet.
