I know you have the thread issue dealt with by now, but another option might have been to drill out the nut and shaft to accept a cotter pin. There is no significant load on the nut so would have held in a pinch. Enjoyed this episode….( suck about the bulb water!) and feel your pain with the yard workers…..thx, Andrew
"Dealt with" is a big word for a temporary solution, Andrew 🙂 Although it's going to be less temporary than I was planning it to be. So maybe a cotter pin could be a solution, although I ain't got the slightest idea what it is, hahaha! I'm going to look it up. Bulb water wasn't that bad. I just let it dry out thoroughly and closed all the gaps with epoxy. And like I said, it's not part of the hull.
I'm not sure how long ago this was but here is a link to the installation of a bulbous bow. You might be interested to know that there are holes so the bow fills with sea water. I hope it is of interest to you. ua-cam.com/video/6cAC4D7_AIg/v-deo.html
Hi! Not in these bulbs 🙂 They should be closed. They are originally filled with polyurethene foam. Oh, and this was last summer. I am a "little" behind with editing, haha! And thanx. I'll take a look at that video.
The 'spline' you mentioned that fits into the steering shaft is called a 'Woodruff Key'.
Best of luck sourcing a new nut.
Haha, yeah, I remember now from reactions on earlier videos, Steve 😂 I forget those kind of things.
Cheers guys!
Nice!

nice improvisation with the nut.
Haha, I hope it will stay there!
Ship mate - remember the cheap diesel you told me about - WELL we have a machine shop here that has those nuts by the dozen 😈
Hahaha! I love you anyway.

Philip, I have watched the video. At least most of it. Interesting indeed. Haha, I don't think the manufacturer of our boat did those calculations.
