Miners Strike Olympic Crystal Opal In Coober Pedy!

- This week we have the pleasure of hosting a video on our channel filmed by Lachlan Blatchford and his brother Shannon Blatchford at their Olympic claim in Coober Pedy!
Some words from Lachlan about the video:
It's late July 2023 and we are back at it on our Olympic claim.
When working virgin ground there's a lot of maintenance and repetitive work that needs doing to get us to the hypothetical prize of that big pocket.
While Shannon is developing a 'shovel free' way to load the tipper, I'm scratching around in some level we drove under about 25 years ago and discover a small pocket of stunning crystal seam. As is often the case, a few little geckos have fallen down the mine and we try to get them back up and out into the bush wherever possible.
The opal is thin, the ground is bloody hard, but the weather is beautiful and we even drill an air shaft with our old mate Nick.
No complaints from God's country.. One of these days we will crack it.
We hope you all enjoy the video leave us a comment and let us know if you would like to see some more mining in Coober Pedy!
Make sure to head over and grab yourself some top quality Coober Pedy Opal:

Opal is crazy !!! Man can go broke spending ten years in a hole and the next guy comes along and removes a couple inches of dirt in the wall and gets rich !!!!!
Is there many jobs with miners available in coober pedy?
If you head there, you can noodle (fossick) around town for free, for a hundred bucks or so you can get your PSPP, (prospecting permit) and peg some old workings. For a few hundred more you could possibly source some ladders, a pick, shovel, helmet with UV and white lights and start scratching around.
It’s definitely best to learn with an experienced crew to start with as it can be very dangerous if you are unaware of the risks.
It’s like any trade, after a few years you could call yourself an opal miner, now whether you find opal or not, is another story entirely.. 😊
@@Opaldigger Thanks for your reply & all the very useful information mate, really appreciate it.
Amazinggggggg......that opal so epic 😂im from indonesia i hope indonesia have that mine opal 😭
Thanks for watching! I love seeing videos of you guys digging in Banten!
Why aren't you guys on the TV show any more
What is the price for cooberspeedy rough
I would not go down there for all the money in the world.
I can never figure out why -minors- miners are so anxious trying to get something out of the rock. It's not going anywhere. Take your time.
Adrenaline, pure and simple
Are you really that stupid!?? It's all about earning a living... money.. cold hard cash, as if they are going to just sit around looking at it.
I get what you mean! Adrenaline is definitely a factor, but we also are on a rostered system meaning we need to get payable opal out each trip wherever possible otherwise we may not be able to fund the next trip! GOD FORBID!! 😅
No
Such a shame to destroy the land and make it look like shit to find the beautiful opals, and what do the caverns do to the stability of the land? , I absolutely love Opals, but does everything have to come at such a high price to the land?
Yes, like pretty much everything in he modern world, it’s all a trade off. I thank God Coober Pedy is in one of the most vast and arid desert areas of Australia, thousands of square kilometres of arid rolling plains that weren’t even frequented by ancient aborigines.. I’d probably feel much worse if it were a rainforest! 😊
Great content. No BS.
Awesome.
Some hard work paying off too!
I like how it said"MICK".No dispute who's claim it is
More video's like this! Great content! 🏆

Definitely thicker opal coming soon! 😅
cant hear a word anyone is saying
I’m sorry you don't know me i was browsing through the comments section when i came across your eye catching profile and thought of knowing more about you,i hope you are not mad?
Can't believe what these miners go through to find a little bit of opal. This has got to be just about as dangerous as King Crab fishing during the winter months.
I just spent an evening with a crabber who worked for a decade out of Alaska. His stories are incomprehensible. Not to take away from opal mining but crabbing is on a whole different level of insanity from anything on earth.
@@utrose Crabbing is the most dangerous profession on the planet but being underground that far with all those tunnels and rocks flaking off and dropping 30-75 feet, lack of air, dark and no way of escape in case of a cave in, just give me the jitters. But, if I had to pick one of the two, I would rather be an opal miner than a crabber.
Love it guys! Hope you hit the jackpot!!
Thanks for the videos. I would like to see you host other miner's videos.
Love watching your channel!
Worldclassopal?
We are ‘piggybacking’ in a collab with the Young Guns to diversify their channel a bit. Thanks for watching!
So beautiful, I still want come over and help you dig out opal
More please you guys are wonderful
Thank you guys, great video. Keep doing what y’all do. 🏆✌️
can you use something like hydrochloric acid to remove the concrete without damaging the opal?
Is it really hot down there or does it stay nice and cool? ❤
Excellent video. Thanks for the adventure
Maybe take a light weight plastic rake with you, cut the handle down and rake off the soft stuff on your way down.. cover a bigger surface area quicker then doing it by hand. 🤔🤷♀️
*Spectacular opal found in Coober Pedy 👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻🔥*
Bring it on.yes,I’d love to see more guys
Love your work lads Rembert just KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE FROM US ALL IN OZ !!!!!
Love this video! Incredibly beautiful stones hidden deep down.
New sub, love the content I've seen so far. Would like to see more of the everyday stuff, not just finding the goods, but the work in between. Some might think it's boring to watch a hole getting dug without finding colour, but I reckon it'd make good content.
Beautiful colours mate 😉👍🏽 opal is just gorgeous 💜
Would love to see more coober opal. My buddy used to mine there before moving to Indonesia. First opal I ever cut was coober so naturally it's myfavorite
I could imagine how hard even a pebble would feel 😢I had a piece of coal fall from a open cut mine and hit my head 😂lucky iv a hard head 😂
Enjoyed the different miner. Nice clear video too 😀
We owe to them to build amazing stuff and give them full access to it
this video is so bad....too much camera movement...no thanks
Thanks from Alaska for the awesome video
You guys should join Young Mineral Collectors
Great job and video!!!
Oh yea boys! Let's find some opal!
Amazing opal mining
Yes I would love to see more. I have been following you guys for a while now never enough.lol
This guy sounds like Levi the tassie gold hunter
That was different than a lot of the other opal videos. It was like an internal monologue on the journey and real impressions seeing nice color. Was an enjoyable story in the life of one of you determined opal hunters. Got lost in the adventure. Thanks and keep up the nice content.
Cheers for watching! Glad you enjoyed! 😊
Love the footage, keep ‘em coming
You found the money grip
keep em coming!!
