This is why I like this channel. He explains about the disease, how dogs can be infected, treatment and vaccination. A lot of vets just asked me if I want a vaccine and never explained what the disease is about. If I don’t know about the disease, how can I decide if we should give a vaccine or not? Always appreciate your expertise from this channel!!
My little chihuahua had a very bad reaction to the leptospirosis vaccine. Be careful, especially if you have a toy breed.
I always steer clear of all vaxxes , human and for my dogs . ( retired medical professional here, and I am informed)
it's far more likely to kill herding breeds than rat dogs, but yes I agree its an extremely dangerous vaccine and I recommend never getting it. a single round of doxycycline cures this bacterial infection. that is FAR LESS DANGEROUS than the vaccine

I am always amazed how many people allow their dogs drink standing, stagnant water. There's a channel I follow surrounded by his dog and he lets his dog drink some of the worst water ever from anywhere there's water. I always leaves me so worried for that dog who is old.
You're such a good veterinarian! I still take my dog to the dog park but I give her a bath afterwards and I give her elderberries and vitamin C before we go and give her oil of oregano capsules inside a treats to keep your immune system up.
Hi, how much elderberry, oregano oil and vitamin c per pound would you say? I understand this is not medical advice just a educated opinion? Thank you
@@Roboticdoughbull3k I probably gave her 25 mg or 50 mg of elderberry and approx 30-50 mg of vitamin C.
The oil of oregano capsule was 400 mg in a gel cap. If she's sick I give it two or three times a day. It works, well at least for us it did. Depending how sick a person or an animal is depends on how often I give them herbs and stuff. Herbs don't work like antibiotics you've got to keep them in the system to keep working.
Not dosing frequently enough when a person or animal is sick is why some people say that they don't work.

Every time I tried elderberry, I had an upset stomach … I hope it doesn’t do that to our pets…
@@Roboticdoughbull3k Dosage goes by weight. He has vids on elderberry, oregano oil, etc. See those vids for dosage amts.
@@Just_Lurking8 did you take elderberries that were purchased from the store and you cooked them into a syrup yourself and picked out all of the stems and made sure that the berries were ripe and dark purple or how did you consume it? Because if you make elderberry syrup or gummies or any other products yourself you want to make sure that you're using fully ripe dark purple berries and make sure you don't have any stems in there. Otherwise that can happen.

My little dog caught it several years ago, after flooding in our area. She nearly died... was in the hospital for several days and then fluid injections at home for several more days. We didn't go around other dogs, but did go for a daily walk in the park, where the vet assumed she picked it up. Once she got better, we continued going for our daily walks in the park because what's the point of being a dog if they can't do doggy things? But I do hope everyone will be on high alert, especially if there is flooding or a lot of standing water where wild critters might be around.
it's way easier to treat the disease than risk your dogs life by vaccinating for lepto. I refuse to touch that vaccine ever again after it was forced on my aussie as a puppy and she nearly died from it.

My dog always seemed to find this vaccine hard on his system. He would be very lethargic for days. I stopped giving it to him even though we lived in the country. I also had to prevent him from drinking water outside because of that 😢
Both of my small dogs struggle with this vaccine too. What I do is make sure they only get this one vaccine at the one time(I do the others at another time normally more than 2 weeks apart)and I pre-treat them with Benadryl before we go to the vet and it helps a ton.
@@KimC-eg2xh Yes, I did the same at first. But I just didn’t like seeing him react like that. It no longer matters because he has passed on and at 70 I will probably not have any more dogs, but thank you💕

I'm from the US but live in Mexico due to the current state of affairs in the US. Dogs here are routinely vaccinated for leptospirosis
My dog’s BUN while in the hospital fighting lepto was in the thousands😳. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. AND SHE MADE IT🎉❤! #FUCKLepto

My dog had a bad allergic reaction to the lepto vaccine. I believe it was what led to his horrible skin allergies that have plagued him since. He only got it once.
Thank you! My dog does not go to the dog parks (learned this from you) I would love to go, but I do not want him to need all the vaccine's. So we take walks, and thankfully, I have a yard so we can play! Thank you for all you do for us pet lovers!
dog parks are routinely trated for bacteria. the ones with ponds have to be treated monthly per regulations for water safety. unless you have a vicious dog like a pit, dog parks are perfectly safe
@@hoihoipoipoi I guess it depends where you go. My dog loves other dogs and animals so I take her once or twice a week if time allows to the dog park.
My little pit mix and I went to the dog park today and someone else's large German Shepherd was just barking and somebody's psychotic medium chunky foo foo dog picked a fight with the German Shepherd and it was jumping in the air trying to bite the German shepherd!
Some things are killed off by UV light and other times I think the dog park near me depends on mulch to keep things fresh.
If this is a sudden outbreak then why wouldn't it be a major problem before? Standing water would be rain, so I have to ask, what's in the rain?

There some Blue-Green Algae thing now too that kills pets even just getting on their fur & licking it. It's deadly in tiny amounts even for humans that I've never heard of growing up around water & camping. I do notice the chemicals they're constantly spraying, I can smell it. I live by a pond which makes it worse. We have algae growing everywhere & it's hard to tell the difference. Ugh...😢

They get from the animals urine. My dog walks around outdoors and licks everything. He gets leptospirosis vaccine yearly. Most of the time dogs with lepto are critical condition when they are diagnosed.

Have you looked into diatomaceous earth? Spirals bacteria and geometric shapes of the diatomaceous at the microscopic level are beautifully chaotic.

ugh my little 30lb mixed breed rescue got this shot today and I hated giving it to her. We do live in an area with tons of wildlife and she drinks out of puddles/ponds and goes to the dog park here in rural VT. Our vet didn;t even think twice just gave it to her but it is a scary one. She is out of sorts today after receiving it. Scary.
Thank you for your kind and brilliant tips, I tried the recipe for redness and grass allergies and unfortunately it didnt help because my Jack Russell sisters licked every bit off each other, so as a tip for all who have this issue, I have used Sudocrem which is used on babies bottoms to prevent nappy rash works a treat, it must be rubbed on morning and night and although it doesnt go away, it is the only product they dont lick. I refuse to get into the regular vet visits spiral and would not ever try corticosticords even short term, so Sudocrem is the most acceptable alternative for me.

My dog had leprosis. Thank God the emergency vet took great care of him. I make sure he now gets the vaccine yearly!
I would recommend having your vet check his titers before
vaccinating him again.

@@Helen-mh8mq The regular vet did that the first time after he got out of the emergency clinic. They gave him the vaccine afterwards. I wish I had known about it before Louie got it. Luckily, there wasn't any kidney damage and he made a full recovery.
@@digi3363 Thank you! I'm not quite sure if he may have gotten it on a walk, or from the lower part of our yard with water in it - which happens in spring after a melting snow. We've since placed more dirt in the one spot to prevent it. We also have a variety of wildlife in our backyard, even though its the suburbs. Great question, but I'm honestly not sure where/how he would've gotten it. Louie got it in the spring.
@@GlassOwl84 So glad he made it.But the titers are to check how much of the vaccine is still working.They are over vaccinating by doing it yearly.In most cases the titers will be high for years.But they dont check the titer levels before they vaccinate,unless you request it..We have to remember that vaccines are a big money maker for vets.

As an owner of dobermans, I've found they can have issues with the vaccine.... the first one i got, with his first lepto shot, he got yuck in the eyes that constantly had gunk in the corners. Just before the 2nd shot, it finally cleared up.... and after the second lepto shot, it came back, was worse and his eyes became deep set, which happened after the second shot.
So now with doberman puppies, i never give the lepto shot and suggest waiting to give it until after they turn a year..... IF they still want to give it.
I LOVE my dogs, I stay informed as much as I can. I do NOT vaxx myself , nor my dogs. I have long seen vaxxes as immune system rape.

My Vet is an amateur. He gave my dog Enrofloxacin after 7 days i saw little improvements i went back and asked for amoxicillin and he finally gave it and after 2 days im seeing improvement. Is it criminal giving my dog Enrofloxacin ? He told me 3 different kinds of antibiotics work it should not matter…help me out here please

Please avoid giving this vaccine to small dogs, the vaccine dosage is the same as what is given to larger dogs and small dogs just can't handle it. My 30lb Bugg (Boston Terrier/Pug mix) went into anaphylaxis hours after getting the vaccine and had I not stayed up late that night to notice her face swelling up like balloon and horribly labored breathing and took her to the emergency vet she may not have made it through the night.
