I’m seeing a wonderful pattern emerging, we have a model, a drone pilot, a photographer and a new camera girl, everyone getting in on the act. I thoroughly enjoyed this 👍🏾
How joyous to see this video of you and your family in such an exquisite place.Thank you for promoting the joy of living in Italy, and for all your advice and insight.Love your channel and wish you much success.Blessings to you keep up the great work.Saluti from 🇦🇺✌️hope to return soon when we can travel .🇦🇺🇮🇹🇮🇹
Thats funny isn't someone selling real estate there and then watching how hard it is to walk around. Me personally, I love places with steps and the up and down its like a work out but, yeah not for really old people or if you have little kids. I think it's beautiful there.
Great video... thank you! Very helpful... gives a great overview and feel for the place. My girlfriend and I are planning to visit italy this year... this was an added inspiration! 😊
Tropeo is the standout for me and I enjoyed Pizzo immensely as well. My wife has family in Calabria (Nocera Terenese). Lovely area but perhaps a bit too remote for my liking and I found the sea a liitle exposed and rough the times we were there. Lovely vid, thx!
The old town is so characterful and the area beaches beautiful! One thing that surprises me is how one doesn’t seem to hear as much about the area’s national parks. Pollino in this case. For me, that would be as big a draw as the beaches as I especially enjoy hiking. It seems that the assets of the area’s mountainous parks aren’t trumpeted very much. Maybe the park’s infrastructure doesn’t offer as much access as what I have in my mind? Autumn around there must be beautiful at the higher elevations. Seems should be much more than just a summer destination. You’ve a great family there and making those fun memories is a wonderful thing!
A few people mentioned them on my trip. I definitely didn't focus on them myself, I think you are might be right about infrastructure (just a guess) thanks to UA-cam, fortunately has given my family many opportunities we wouldn't have had otherwise!
Actually Scalea is in between two national parks (Calabria has 3 in total), but it's definitely closer to Pollino National Park and it's at the end of Lao river, the most important in south Italy for rafting. In recent years many many groups organising all sort of outdoor activities like horse riding, hiking, quad, snowshoeing all year long were born. There are plenty of hikes available, nowadays with apps like Komoot or Wikiloc you can see all of them and find all infos u need.
@@DauvO the rafting there is very very nice, as well as the villages where they do it. One is Papasidero, the other one is Laino Borgo. Next to it there is Laino Castello which was abandoned in the 60s after a landslide. It has now been partially restored and transformed into an albergo diffuso. It's really a magical place. check it out
I've been on the lungomare of Scalea but haven't been up into the town! After seeing this video I'm definitely going to visit the town as well! I'm a big fan of small vicoletti that you can explore! :)
Thanks! Unfortunately, we didn't try for shopping and didn't see any obvious areas while driving around the city, but it did seem to have a lot of businesses, just not necessarily in any concentrated pedestrian area, but we might have just missed it
Haha! Glad to hear it. It definitely makes for a more interesting video having them with me. They were even making video while I was getting something in the car! 😄
Ciao Dauvo, Your videos get better and better. It was lovely to see your wife and adorable kids in the video too. They added a whole new dimension. Well done. I am half Italian and I just love any videos like yours. I love to hear the spoken Italian to keep my practice up. Just a question, you are talking about Scalea vecchia, is that different to what Chris calls Santa Domenica Talao.? Or is it all the same. She seems to be a bit further up the hill than where you were today. I am also not sure how I would feel about staying next door to a noisy church. I hope the bell didn't sound all night..
Scalea Vecchia is pretty much the city of Scalea's historical town center. It's very much different that Santa Domenica Talao. I just posted a few videos showing Santa Domenica which is set back off the coast about 10 minutes
Calabria is where my grandmothers family came from. The Palettas. I wonder if there are any left there. Are the homes still reasonable yet? The ones I’m wondering about are the really old ones.
What a lovely video! What a beautiful family. We follow Super Savvy Travelers, and are interested in seeing video of Scalea. Is Scalea Vecchia the same as the centro storico of Scalea? Grazie! :)
You are right, there were plenty of people in Scalea. I guess I was referring more to Scalea vecchia. Your town was great.. but the historical center had definitely been left to history to a certain extent.
@@clivekathrynbayton244 the word abandoned is relative. With respect, it was beautiful, but any area with structures that are on the edge of collapse has been abandoned to a certain degree. Sure there were a large number of houses with owners... whether living there full time or part time, (I was invited into many) but there are some serious cases of abandonment on the part of property owners who hold property with no intention of maintaining them.
Just love hearing the children speaking Italian just love it, the town is magical.
For me I feel the same if they speak English hah😂

Haha 😄 makes me wonder what part the youngest will play.
I have to admit, I am proud of my daughters camera girl 👧 skills. Pleasant surprise 😮
@@DauvO I have a feeling your little one if not a presenter, I would guess on the tech side, editing, software etc. A family production👍🏾
Right now, from my perspective he's more likely to become the muscle.. bouncer.. anger translator.... Let's just say he's going through a long phase 😡
@@DauvO 😂😂🦾😤😡😂😂😂time will tell, good luck 😅
It looks like a really atmospheric place. I really enjoyed seeing how your family reacted to the environment, especially the shell wall!
Love those tiny waves 😃
Wonderful, I love it all, I added this area to my list to see, thank you..you and your family are beautiful..🇨🇦💕🙏
Thanks Terri! There's a ton of areas to explore nearby!
This is gorgeous! beautiful photography! We so enjoyed you and your beautiful family! I hope you come often!
You are so privilege too be in such a beautiful town, and the weather looks fantastic! Hope you enjoy the rest of the trip with Chris and her husband.
Thanks Monique! Unfortunately we had to head back to Milano. Considered staying an extra week, but.... responsibilities... 😆

È bellissima quest anno ci vorrei venire in vacanza!!!😊
Dove vorresti andare?
A scalea oppure San Nicola arcella.
More from the south please!
You have a beautiful family!!
The kids modeling for photographer mom was the cutest. The great advantage here, is that no model release forms were needed! 👨👩👧👦🍕
MR JKE said best!!! :) I am in 100% agreement. DAUVO!! I LOVE WHAT YOU DO MAN!!! but your family is taking over and I LOVE IT TOO!!!! :)

My town is not abandoned, just visited by people who have no idea how this town works!
