Fun fact - In the Finnish language the word "Dragon" is "Lohikäärme" - Lohi = Salmon (The fish). Käärme = Snake (The serpent). So it's a "Salmon Snake". Due to the fact in old Finnish mythology (Yes we had our very own one too) dragon's did not exist as a concept, the word to describe the being was invented much later - Around same time the first draft of the written version of said language was being forged to be used.

Ranem Shain wasitora says hi 😘 And ya by your logic the japanese and chinese dragons arnt dragons just because they dont have wings, and are still capable of flying 🤔
In my story, my dragons are large and more bird-like. Having feathers and raptor-like features. I’ve been doing a large amount of research into extinct animals such as pterodactyls, and the recently discovered Chinese bat-wing dinosaur that glided from tree to tree. My dragons don’t breathe fire, however, they have a larger set of lungs that allow them to throw gusts of winds over 600 miles per hour. This being inspo from Skyrim of course. ❤️ And they can make a ear-bleeding screech. They however do not use these traits on their own whim, they evolved to take these commands from their human counterparts. They were domesticated, and are basically giant Hell birbs.
Wow! How big are these critters? Are they four or six limbed? If four, are they bipeds or quadrupeds? PS- how about giving them acid/ venom spray? Also, I'm looking forward to reading your story :)
Suneish Basu my dragons are modeled after the GOT dragons, so they have wyvern bodies(two back legs and wings only.) They don’t spit venom but throw gusts of winds. They have a thick layer of feathers(except for their wings which are wing membrane.) Their wind power causes an explosion when contacted with solid objects. But they only do this when their human counterpart says so. It’s more a bred thing that happened over time like how we choose better traits for certain animals to make different breeds.
Technically they’d be bipeds. But on the ground and how they support their front weight is by their thumb claws on their wings so they walk on their wings and grab ahold of cliffs and such. And depending on the breed of dragon depends on the size. Some can be as tall as a giraffe others the size of a plane(but as they get bigger they fly less. The biggest known dragon on my world was said to be so big that she could only glide for short distances at a time.)
@@kattycharisma actually, ma'am, that makes the dragons quadrupeds. Regardless of the number of limbs, the terms refer only to how many limbs the creature utilises to move on the ground. Biped means a creature that walks on two limbs. A quadruped walks on four limbs. I'm pretty excited about these critters, and wonder where I may read your work. May I ask the name of your work?

I was wrong; as such I watched the entire video to the end and found it entertaining and informative. Since this video is so well made containing good illustrations to compliment the information I would go so far as to say this is an excellent video.

The Bakunawa is a serpent-like dragon in Philippine mythology. It is believed to be the cause of eclipses, earthquakes, rains, and wind. The movements of the Bakunawa served as a geomantic calendar system for ancient Filipinos and were part of the shamanistic rituals of the babaylan. It is usually depicted with a characteristic looped tail and a single horn on the nose. It was generally believed to be a sea serpent, but are also variously believed to inhabit either the sky or the underworld. Due to increasing trade contacts with South Asia and the Indianization of Southeast Asia, the Bakunawa later became syncretized with the Nāga, Rahu, and Ketu of Hindu-Buddhist mythology. Etymology Bakunawa is believed to be originally a compound word meaning "bent snake", from Proto-Western-Malayo-Polynesian *ba(ŋ)kuq ("bent", "curved") and *sawa ("large snake", "python"). Spelling variants include Vakonawa, Baconaua, or Bakonaua. Source: Wikipedia
We are not ashamed to confess that we continue to believe in dragons with all our hearts, we study them hard and pray for them as well as for fairies, elves and all other fantastic creatures.
In the version of the legend of the Vavel Dragon that I remember from childhood the dragon doesn't die from simply ingesting sulfur but rather the sulfur causes a raging inferno in the beast's stomach which it tries to quench by drinking water from a river or lake, but the fire is so strong that no amount of water can put it out so the monster's belly eventually bursts killing it. I've also never heard the version with the brothers or king - only the one with a tailor named Dratevka.
For some reason, the human race always goes out of its way to create the source of its own nightmares. An all powerful creature, ugly, scary and dangerous is simply an inevitability. Especially as my last dating experience is described at 4:30.
But there being only one breeding pair of dragons was silly even for a film of that type. ( also for some reason the video game looks like it might not have been completely horrible)

You should make more "exploring mythology" videos. I think your next mythological video should be about the figures of death in mythology. Figures, such as the reaper, shinigami, Ah Puch, or Yama. I think it'll make an interesting video!
Dragons are the ultimat guardian and protective figures. They are the closest creature to dieties and the ultimat guardian only toped by gods protectivness over their followers. Heck. In many asien mythologies dragons are the top gods personal and greatest gurad. And in western myth they were second to the devil in many stories. Being guardians doesnt mean they are good. And being guarded comes with a price, be that prayer, sacrifice, gold or virgins (keep in mind for example that in stories where a place is terrorized by a dragon, no enemy force other then the dragon is present. So aside of his treasure the dragon is guarding his interests. The people who feed him sacrifices.) Asian dragons guard people and knowledge. European dragons guard treasures and princesses. Scp-1762 dragons guard innocence and fantasy. Theres no suprise to me that dragons are one of the most powerfull and popular creatures in mythologie.
That's the thing though, most western "dragons" weren't dragons, and the actual western dragons were close to gods in the same way Chinese lóngs(they too were never called dragons or like dragons in the same way) were to gods. Also, the Chinese had some pretty evil "dragons" in it's culture, so they too, were evil. Also they were described as having demon eyes. So asian "dragons" rule people(which sounds more malevolent than good) and guards the water, While the actual western dragon rule over magic and guards sacred wells/springs of healing. Yeah, no suprise to me either that serpents like dragons and other reptile creatures are popular in mythology.
Yeah The Dragons are Kings Of The Mythical Creatures From different Mythologies and fictional Universes just like popular Mythical Creatures like Gryphons/Griffins/Griffons, Hydra, Kraken, Pegasus, Unicorn and The Other Mythical Creatures out there.
this video was amazing dragons are truly some of the greatest of all fantasy creatures due to how much there is about them and how drastically different the western and eastern dragons are from one another and with the dragon like creatures like wyverns, wyrms and drakes it is almost as if they are actual animals with their own branch on the tree of life
@@evodolka Well, I would love go into detail on why they are are called dragons, but unfortunately, I am a idiot, and don't know my own religion, because if you scroll down to the comment asking what about the fact satin is a "dragon" and you look at my response and the other guy's response, I am almost every foul name in the book, and don't have a right to an opinion anymore, so I am sorry for spreading "false" accusations to anyone here who believed in science and a Christian, so good day to anyone I apparently "lied" to. @@evodolka Well, everyone in real life seems to agree with him, even though I wasn't given enough time to respond or explain my side of the story. And everyone acts, saying they shouldn't care, because that I got into a "fight" with them and lost, thus I am now "butt hurt" and the other person was right. When ironically, most have them have said or done something VERY similar, in the past. I was gonna say: how would every religion, country, and culture have the same exact word in the same language for dragon? It doesn't seem to make sense. Plus, the fact that the creatures neither share the same traits, powers, ideals, and hopes, dreams, & fears represented in the other draconic creatures. It's like looking at another ancient religion, looking at their thunder god, and looking at other religious thunder gods, and saying that they are ALL Zeus, if that makes any sense. Although alot of people claim the origin is unknown of the name, that's actually a lie, as it does have a origin, but most don't care or want to accept it, due to different of opinion and views, which is ok. But the orginal western dragons WERE good.

What about Quetzalcoalt?
@3 name changes allowed every 90 days
Well dragon is used to name many different things
So Semantics they are a sub species of dragon don't believe me take it up with the Koreans
Lol I've just started playing Dragon's Dogma recently and Grigori is slowly becoming one of my favorite dragons in fiction, and a prime example of the classic western dragon described here.

I respect you mentioning and properly giving credit to the artists and the music, it also realy helps for people like me that are interested in those things.
only knowing you from SCP, it's so weird hearing you talk about a "real" creature
I don't know why but every time I see a dragon I'm mesmerized
Fun fact - In the Finnish language the word "Dragon" is "Lohikäärme" - Lohi = Salmon (The fish). Käärme = Snake (The serpent). So it's a "Salmon Snake". Due to the fact in old Finnish mythology (Yes we had our very own one too) dragon's did not exist as a concept, the word to describe the being was invented much later - Around same time the first draft of the written version of said language was being forged to be used.
Shrines = Statue
Aspect = Titan
Air = Stone
Dragon = Giant
Travel = Shield
I wanna see trolls and/or giants next, your videos are so freaking awesome, keep it up
Please don’t end the scp series
It'll never end
There a literally tons of scp’s and considering the wiki is get more in recent years, unless the internet dies (or UA-cam kills its creators), there will always be at least one scp to review. Heck he still has to finish all the scp-001 entries.
Wyvern, wyrm, drake, leviathan, lind-wyrm, salamander, dragon. Whatever the name, here be dragons.
Here were dragons...

Ranem Shain wasitora says hi 😘
And ya by your logic the japanese and chinese dragons arnt dragons just because they dont have wings, and are still capable of flying 🤔
6:05 Good job Túrin I mean Sigurd
In my story, my dragons are large and more bird-like. Having feathers and raptor-like features.
I’ve been doing a large amount of research into extinct animals such as pterodactyls, and the recently discovered Chinese bat-wing dinosaur that glided from tree to tree.
My dragons don’t breathe fire, however, they have a larger set of lungs that allow them to throw gusts of winds over
600 miles per hour. This being inspo from Skyrim of course. ❤️
And they can make a ear-bleeding screech.
Suneish Basu my dragons are modeled after the GOT dragons, so they have wyvern bodies(two back legs and wings only.)
They don’t spit venom but throw gusts of winds.
They have a thick layer of feathers(except for their wings which are wing membrane.)
Their wind power causes an explosion when contacted with solid objects. But they only do this when their human counterpart says so. It’s more a bred thing that happened over time like how we choose better traits for certain animals to make different breeds.
@@kattycharisma coooool!
Are they bipeds or quadrupeds?
And how big, in meters or feet, if I may ask?
DRAGOOOONSSS!!
Here is the "categories" of dragon:
Dragon (4 legs, 2 wings)
Wyvern (2 legs, 2 wings)
Drake (4 legs, no wings)
Lung ("asian dragon")
Amphitere (No legs, 2 wings)
Wyrm (No legs, no wings)
@@purplehaze2358 You mean categories of dracos, not "dragons".

@@purplehaze2358 ?? I didn't though... did you?
@@zionthedragon8866 No, I did not. Not that I'm aware of, at least. Maybe it's montizon, himself, our lord and savior.
Tales were told of a swedish man, who tackled the challenge of battling a powerful dragon known only as a ruler. The man endures many deaths, yet was given mercy by the Water Sheep, and slayed the dragon with an army of snowmen.

Surprisingly good video! I originally thought that a generic video on dragons would be boring and uninformative. I was wrong; as such I watched the entire video to the end and found it entertaining and informative. Since this video is so well made containing good illustrations to compliment the information I would go so far as to say this is an excellent video.
Thanks!
So we're all in agreement then...
Dragons are fucking awesome.
I literally and honestly clicked right off another, longer video and stayed here just because your microphone is better 🤣
exploring mythology is my favorite series
You know what’s funny, dragons with the wings that are a part of their arms are actually called Wyverns, dragons are the ones with the wings on their backs.
I think you meant Siegfried, for the legend of how Siegfried killed and bathed in Fafnir's blood except one leaf shaped spot, Sigurd is a legendary viking and Brunhilde's lover
Now that you did this... you should read that one scp, "here were dragons" or something
Thumbnail was awesome
I never realized that the Hobbit is a retelling of Beowulf.
New subscriber. I love dragons. They are truly are wonderful. I love the Chinese dragons in breath of the wild, legend of Zelda. :3
1:34 they actually combinerà aspects of snakes leopards and Eagles the primate most fierce (stealth) enemies
The image at 10:08 is so awesome!
Dude ive been watching you videos since the lord of the ring series. Love them all your sco videos are fucking fantastic
So chuffed when the Welsh get mentioned in videos
One of the reasons why I love fantasy
Etymology
Bakunawa is believed to be originally a compound word meaning "bent snake", from Proto-Western-Malayo-Polynesian *ba(ŋ)kuq ("bent", "curved") and *sawa ("large snake", "python"). Spelling variants include Vakonawa, Baconaua, or Bakonaua.

We are not ashamed to confess that we continue to believe in dragons with all our hearts, we study them hard and pray for them as well as for fairies, elves and all other fantastic creatures.
Who drew the thumbnail cause that’s the most beautiful art I’ve ever seen it looks soo peaceful but terrifying
The brothers and the king is the originally version.
I dislike all those dragonslaying things.
We need the Dragonborn in times like these
Please make a video about giants next, there's so much stuff about them and from so many different sources.
I enjoyed this a lot, but truth be told I'm more looking forward to your next SCP Video! :)
What about the Quetzalcoatl/Kukulkan from Mesoamerica? That also featured winged serpent god.
Think most people consider that fairly different, but it would fit the bill of very large reptilian organism that may or may not fly
Everybody gangsta until you realize the god is wearing rolex 1:53
nice in-depth look at lore
For some reason, the human race always goes out of its way to create the source of its own nightmares. An all powerful creature, ugly, scary and dangerous is simply an inevitability.
Especially as my last dating experience is described at 4:30.
I’m from wales and can confirm there are dragons in the forests you just gotta eat the yellow mushrooms to see them
Hi! Thanks for your content so far; it really transpires passion! Good thing to see you transcend the realm of fiction with myths of reality ;)

My favorite movie has dragons is Reign of Fire people don't remember that movie that's why I like about dragons
I like that movie Reign of Fire post-apocalyptic Universe with dragon in it
But there being only one breeding pair of dragons was silly even for a film of that type.
( also for some reason the video game looks like it might not have been completely horrible)

Man, I hate stories where dragons get slain.
You should make more "exploring mythology" videos. I think your next mythological video should be about the figures of death in mythology. Figures, such as the reaper, shinigami, Ah Puch, or Yama. I think it'll make an interesting video!
You need to discuss the dragons of Pern.
The people who feed him sacrifices.)
Asian dragons guard people and knowledge.
So asian "dragons" rule people(which sounds more malevolent than good) and guards the water,
While the actual western dragon rule over magic and guards sacred wells/springs of healing.
Yeah, no suprise to me either that serpents like dragons and other reptile creatures are popular in mythology.
Yup
We black dragons are gods I am the god of death destruction and darkness
6:48 *Religion sure keeps the small people believing they are powerless*
Yeah The Dragons are Kings Of The Mythical Creatures From different Mythologies and fictional Universes just like popular Mythical Creatures like
Gryphons/Griffins/Griffons, Hydra, Kraken, Pegasus, Unicorn and The Other Mythical Creatures out there.
this video was amazing
dragons are truly some of the greatest of all fantasy creatures due to how much there is about them and how drastically different the western and eastern dragons are from one another
and with the dragon like creatures like wyverns, wyrms and drakes it is almost as if they are actual animals with their own branch on the tree of life
You forgot to add to dragon like creatures most of the Asian "dragons" as most up until European influence, were not dragons.
@@zionthedragon8866 really?
thought they were always called dragons, either way it is pretty interesting none the less
Not saying YOU said I did. Just scroll the comments and look for the user "Space invader" and his Satan comment to see what I mean. Goodbye, it would have been nice to talk to you.
@@zionthedragon8866 could still say what you want, him being a dick isn't going to stop me wanting to hear an interesting subject, besides sadly that is just UA-cam for you, some comments are fine, few are good but most of them are just garbage, bit of a shame really and is 1 of the main reasons i don't comment on videos much
@@evodolka Well, everyone in real life seems to agree with him, even though I wasn't given enough time to respond or explain my side of the story.
So you're telling me... That High School DxD's dragons are vased off an actual welsh myth? And that names of the dragons are the actual names of the dragon irl? And High School DxD's dragons are somewhat accurate?
The hell is DxD
@@gunjfur8633 it's an anime
Yep. To take it further, 'Ddraig' in welsh means 'dragon', and Albion is an old name for England.
