I get what you're saying, but all grooves don't have to have 16ths on the hats in order to swing...The pocket/space feels great....sometimes less really is more.
@@jackieclark8253 oh for sure no doubt there's a ton of ways to keep the pocket great as a big time toto fan this song feel different without it. no bad at all I just love Jeff Porcaro's sense of feel in drumming. There's nothing at all wrong with this way at all and im not saying all grooves need 16ths on hi-hat to swing either. some of my favorite stuff is half time shuffles personally and 1/4 hi hat grooves too. i was stating this song to my ears without the groove that Jeff played feels weird mostly because i study Jeff like a religion only reason why it feels strange to me

Btw…I wasn’t saying you felt all grooves should have 16ths,I’m saying it still swings without the 16ths. Just like when a drummer doesn’t hit the crash on the 1,you can still feel it. Just a different approach to a classic song.
