    This works great for removing decals. I used a hair dryer for the heat & goo gone pro power to remove adhesive. Thanks for the video.

    Nice, quick video! We are going to attempt to remove our decals off of our 2000 Jayco Eagle. Most are in good shape, but they've faded and to be honest, not a fan of splashy decals on our tiny house on wheels. We have other ideas that I hope are easy to do. Been working on updating the inside and now the weather is nicer, we can start the outside. Don't you just love making an RV into your own design!?! Have a blessed day!

      Thanks! Almost all the decals came off this way, but a few were really baked on. We had to use MEK to get those off.

      I agree, recently I became the owner of a 2008 Zinger by Crossroads Thor edition RV and some of the decals are faded and cracking a bit, I know it's not really a life threatening issue but it sure does bother me. My main concern before watching this video was messing up the surface around the decals if I were to replace them and now I feel confident that I can do this work very easily.

      What were your "other ideas" for the outside of your motorhome? I'm removing the stripes and painting the whole thing on mine, and am wondering what you were talking about? Please let me know, I'm looking for ideas. Thanks.

      @@AM-wd1wy Our RV is aluminum and white. So we are going to paint the door a fun, bright color, and the storage doors another bright color. Would LOVE to add a 3rd color and paint on "shutters" on the 2 bigger windows. 🤞 We got our burgandy and gold stripes off and it looks so much cleaner and simple. Blue stripes will eventually come off too, but ok for now. We did a video on removing the decals off aluminum. The fun colors are on hold for a bit during the stay-at-home orders. Home Depot is VERY busy right now. Hope to get the painting done in the next week or two. Good luck on your project! Painting the whole thing sounds like an ambitious project! 😊

    Thanks for the information. I just bought a new old camper and it looks terrific except for some of the graphics. I appreciate your info.

    Plastic razor blades reduce the risk of scratching...they're great ! Would you consider making a video on painting an RV after decal removal ?

    Instead of puttingon new vinyl graphics, just use the lines you can still see from the old graphics to tape the area off and add some automotive paint with clearcoat. It costs more, but it will last a whole lot longer. You can just get a cheap airless kit to spray it.

    It would have better if you had shown how to remove a decal that was in really bad shape, like the tan/gold one shown that had cracked and broken into hundreds of pieces.

    • @ThisNewOldRV
      @ThisNewOldRV  5 років тому +1

      You're right Freddy. We didn't tackle the cracked gold ones until later. We found that the only way to get those off was with MEK and a paint brush. After multiple swipes with the MEK and a paint brush, the decal starts to melt and is easier to remove, but still takes a long to time to get the whole thing off.

      @@ThisNewOldRV For real what is MEK?

    • @ThisNewOldRV
      @ThisNewOldRV  4 роки тому

      @@dinstaar Defined as "MEK is a liquid solvent used in surface coatings, adhesives, printing inks, chemical intermediates, magnetic tapes and lube oil dewaxing agents. MEK also is used as an extraction medium for fats, oils, waxes and resins. It is a highly efficient and versatile solvent for surface coatings." When a decal has melted or baked on to the surface of the RV, it's almost impossible to remove. MEK is really strong stuff (wear gloves and a mask). It basically melts the decal so you cam remove it. Not too much though. www.lowes.com/pd/Jasco-128-fl-oz-Fast-to-Dissolve-Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone-MEK/1000508687

    I'm reseaching how to get rid of the shadow left behind by the lettering. Do you have a process for getting the faded paint exposed to the sun to match more closely the area that was under the stickers? We are not putting on new graphics. Just want the old ones gone. Without matching up the shadows left behind, it actually looks worse that it did before starting.

    • @ThisNewOldRV
      @ThisNewOldRV  4 роки тому +1

      We have the same problem. The fiberglass that was under the old graphic looks like it's brand new, but the old surrounding exposed fiberglass is yellowed. Nothing we've done changes the old fiberglass yellowing. Still, our old vinyl graphics looked so bad, that removing them has made the rig look a little better. In my opinion, painting over the fiberglass might be the only solution. We're doing some research on that now.

    • @ThisNewOldRV
      @ThisNewOldRV  4 роки тому +1

      We've looked around a bit on the Internet. There are some people that have used a "Rolling and Tipping" method of painting fiberglass, like on fiberglass boats. We may try that in a small area to see if it works. We're not recommending that for you, just an idea.

    I hate Rv graphics I think they look absolutely GARISH.
    What I do like is those murals you see on the sides of
    Uhaul trucks. Visit Yellowstone or see the Texas Gulf
    coast Or come to Kitty Hawk, NC.

    I am a new motor home, used, and these graphix are just a real pain in the ass. Why put them on to just have the sun bake them off, hassle with their removal and cleanup, just to install more ridiculous looking swoops and swirly graphix? Why not just clean 'em off and leave it clean and shiny.

    • @ThisNewOldRV
      @ThisNewOldRV  3 роки тому +1

      I agree. The only problem now is discoloration left behind, between the underexposed fiberglass against the exposed fiberglass. I'm considering wrapping the whole thing myself with pure white vinyl wrap.

    A hair dryer works best for idiots. So If you're like me and you mess everything up the first time just go with that.
