Talk about putting you're heart and soul into a song. I think Dennis was probably able to do this almost every time. It was his true calling. His voice was fucking awesome
what a voice... ja... die Stimme und die Gitarre... perfekte Intoninierung mit einmaligem künstlerischem Beiwerk.... Ausnahmekönner... die jedoch auch das Handwerk perfekt beherrschen .... that's all I want to say... Astonishment and Fascination and great Songwriting...
Never realized how great this song was till I saw him do this version at the Bedford County fairgrounds when the band took a break. He did a few unplugged songs. This brought the house down bcuz he was jamming and wailing!! He brought it up to such an awesome last bridge and ending. Better than this!!! That was in the 80s.
His voice is stunning here. Unfortunately his voice sounds nothing like this good any more - that beautiful tone is gone for ever and you will never hear him sing like this again which is genuinely tragic. He was an accessible, uncelebrated great.
The full emotional impact of this song really hits you in this version. Maybe we're all older and wiser. Maybe now that the band is sober the pain shines through more and the anger a little less. Idk what it is exactly, but omg.....the feels!!
🥀Beautiful Sad Love Song! Leave it to Dennis Locorriere of Dr Hook to keep it going. I love acoustic version it's natural seems more personal. I love this song🥀✌🥀☝️
No one can sing this song like Dennis, it moves me every time I hear it. I can feel the big rip left in his heart by the lose of Sylvia. I have to go now it's starting to rain.
No doubt this version highlights Dennis's wonderful voice, but I prefer the 72 live version. The harmonies are an integral part of this classic. I miss Ray here. When he joins in I feel chills running through me.
This is the best version of this song vocally! I miss the steal guitar that is in the recorded version. But this one vocally is the best by far. You can see he is feeling the music!!!!
He looks madder than hell, having to sing this. It is a beautiful song and it is perfect for his voice. He is doing us all a favor to sing it for us, no?
Follow it to the end and you'll understand what they say in the business..."come on put all you got into it, make it believable, sing it like you don't need the money and enjoy it all the way through"...this guy does exactly that!
I don't know any thing about music , but this song works in a perfect time frame the whole narrative fits in squarely flanked by the correct amount of despair and longing. I just wish I had wrote it.
Cindy Tack where did you see them at? That must have been amazing!! I just looked up their tour dates and unfortunately they will be nowhere near me. :(
Standing in a phone booth back then, if it was today there would be no options for such interactions. As cell phones relate more to the sound of silence song originally written by the same guy
❤ Mrs of Avery was polite in not hanging up. As Sylvia was getting ready to leave she was afraid that if she hung up that he might call back and Sylvia might answer the phone. So Mrs Avery just kept him on the phone until time ran out . Pockets only hold a couple pounds of change .. So many veterans comming home from the war finding these dear john phone calls... these parents would spit on these veterans that fought for their freedom... 🎉🎉🎉
Incredible cover of this GREAT song, this should have a million hits, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED to peoples appreciation for GOOD talent, Oh! I get it, most folks only follow what's popularized by big money. FUCK ALL THAT SHIT - this is GOOD!
@gttdkt intensity is often mistaken for anger.... cant you see the wave of pain he rides in the moment ? Its hurt and need the song feeds on and shares.... another song that does this is the angel song ( One More Year ?)
Dennis Locorriere is this fabulous singer.... very distinctive voice
What a voice........truely a God given gift. I Never get tired of hearing this guy sing.
absolutely brilliant rendition of Sylvia's Mother by Denis Locorriere, i love it
I listen to this song every night! Love to hear him sing!
Probably my favorite song ever, and this version is Fantastic!
Talk about putting you're heart and soul into a song. I think Dennis was probably able to do this almost every time. It was his true calling. His voice was fucking awesome

This right here, is why I love music. Oh my God I love music.
I remember crying like a baby every time I heard that song, when I was 14 yrs. old.......
Ffs … what a voice and what a song!!!
The singer put his soul into this. Moving
Amore tanto amore! 😪😪😍😍😍💘♥️💔💔💔💔💔💔
Greatest voice ever!😊
One great singer and a great song
what a voice... ja... die Stimme und die Gitarre... perfekte Intoninierung mit einmaligem künstlerischem Beiwerk.... Ausnahmekönner... die jedoch auch das Handwerk perfekt beherrschen
.... that's all I want to say...
Astonishment and Fascination
and great Songwriting...
By far one of the best voices in the world! Smooth like fine silk!

Mit vollem Herzschmerz und Liebe gesungen 😢💔

What a beautiful voice. Just a tremendously tender and emotive vibrato
Just absolutely superb I was lucky to see him in the late 70s at the odeon cinema and they wer were fantastic
His voice is stunning here. Unfortunately his voice sounds nothing like this good any more - that beautiful tone is gone for ever and you will never hear him sing like this again which is genuinely tragic. He was an accessible, uncelebrated great.
Ok..this is probably way to late. But when you did this performance in b.c...
Wow...still moves us. Thanks

A performance lesson right there... beautiful distinctive vocal and emotionally perfect 🥰
loved all their songs, but for some reason this is my fave
I was only about 6 years old when I first heard this in the 70S, I literally fell in love with Sylvia and I still love her/search for her today.

You do know Shel Silverstien wrote this song right? Although I'm sure Dennis had a Sylvia at some point in his life to relate it to.
This is amazing this was so special for him
Just the great est can't stop listening
I loved this version. I also could almost see the ghosts of those not present from the original version.
Great voice. Great song.
Dennis still rocks this song. I remember this song when i was a young teen,
Have u ever heard Sylvia's father? It's good too
I just heard it. Ruined the whole atmosphere
OMG! So amazing!! song reminds me of my Grandpa who LOVED this song. Can't hear this song without thinking of him. So thanks for the upload!
So freaking awesome..love Dr.Hook& The Medicine Show..happy late birthday Dennis. hgsnkss!!!

Holy crap! Known this song forever, but this rendition is so heartfelt that it's amazing. And somehow Nicki Minaj et al. have a job.
@gttdkt Dennis is the sweetest tempered soul I've ever met, he'd never be angry to perform any of his great repertoire.
My fav version
Best version ever!
Amo questa canzone! Una voce meravigliosa! Emozionante! 👩❤️💋👨😍😍🤩🤩😘😘🎶🎸💘♥️💔💯💋🍀🌹
He looks madder than hell, having to sing this. It is a beautiful song and it is perfect for his voice. He is doing us all a favor to sing it for us, no?

Nice version! Tnx for the up!
Amazing. Grew up as a child considering Dr. Hook a 'novelty' band...hardly. Live and learn. :-)
Awesome song, awesome eyebrows.
