      Will do! Unfortunally here in Europe swimbait fishing for Bass is still very rare and only a hand few (myself included) do it on a regular bases, most people use them for Pike, Zander and Wells Catfish only. Anyway, swimbait fishing is highly addictive and i´m happy to see a dedicated channel like yours! Cheers from Portugal ;)

    snap or tie direct to the swimbait?

    • @SwimbaitChronicles
      @SwimbaitChronicles  8 років тому

      That's really a preference thing man. Certain baits I use owner split rings on and certain baits I use decoy egg snaps. All my soft baits I tie direct. Experiment and see what you like. Only snaps if any that I'd recommend are decoy egg snaps size 4 for smaller baits and 5 for deps size

      +Cole Riemer hey man I just saw this comment. The rating says it could, only way to tell would be to try it out and see how it feels. I know other guys cross over and use musky set ups for bigger swims sometimes. See how it feels. If it feels over loaded take it easy with it or get something you know works for it.

    Dobyns 807 or 867 would be my pick (D250) Great load for treble baits. I didn't appreciate the 806 ML 26" handle until I fished the 21-1/2" handle version. Me being 5'7" 150 lbs. I could feel the "arm pump" every time I went with the shorter handle. (Use a shovel with both grips and the leverage is evident) The Fury 795 has single hook power up to the 8" Hudd but is less refined. @ $120 it's tough to beat. Also, Tackle Warehouse's "used" list can post some steals on new "off the rack" condition gear. It's always the first place I go on TW. Subscribed.

    Good info. dude. I use a St. Croix 8'-6" XH Muskie Rod for chunking 2-10 oz baits retails for about $180.00 from Bass Pro Shops. Great rod and it can handle those big baits with no problem. I prefer to go that route since I've only been fishing Big Baits for a few years now.

    I love your channel u r like the only swimbait channel keep making these great vids I live in New York I no it is not the best place to throw big baits but it works I am only 14 and have always had this question do u think if I threw 25lb mono or flurocarbin do u think it can be able to get a big bass out of cover and I use the okuma guide select and live it also my reel in a shimano Cardiff

    • @SwimbaitChronicles
      @SwimbaitChronicles  8 років тому

      shouldnt have much problem pulling one out of cover with 25. only time i would step up to something higher would maybe be around stick up trees/branches or heavy brush. if i was scared of the line being cut. but yeah man 20-25 should do ya fine depending on the bait.. i run 25# seaguar abrazx for my fluoro and have never had a problem, and 25# big game when im going mono. and izorline xxx is what i run when i feel like using co-poly. all great lines and all super strong. thanks for tuning in. stay tuned i have alot more stuff planned for the coming months.

      +Swimbait Chronicles thank u so much u r so helpful and I will definitely stay tuned so u wound never throw braid

    • @SwimbaitChronicles
      @SwimbaitChronicles  8 років тому

      +Den K I use braid only for backing on my 300 and 400 size reels so I don't waste fluoro spooling that much line on. Braid has no stretch and in turn if you cast a big bait and it backlashes or hangs up mid air that braid will instantly snap and your bait will go flying. So no, me personally I never use braid in conjunction with large baits.

    I have the okuma guide select a series xxh i love it its my first simbait rod. I think its more rated from 2 to 8 oz but i think 5 oz is its sweet spot. I think i will get a custom rod built for those 9 plus oz lures. for my 0 to 3 oz lures i just use ugly stik bws 1100 8 foot i use that rod mostly for huge brown and rainbow trout throwing 4 to 6 inch swimbaits. Its a cheap rod and battle proven

    im trying to decide on a swimbait rod. I'm probably going to be throwing weedless huddlestons, 316 swimbaits, and some topwaters. So i figured 1-4/5oz rating but i cant decide between IRod G2, okuma guide select, or mojo bass

  • @evanlayne23
    @evanlayne23 8 років тому

    I have the okuma guide select a rod, okuma c3-40x 7 6 xxxh and several irods. the irod swimbait rods are lighter, more sensitive and cast much better than any of the others. the okuma guide select is too heavy to be used daily for me at least. the c3-40x is like a broomstick, it barely bends at all with a deps 250 on it and can't cast it very far bc its so stiff. I recommend the irod for sure. Matt Newman is awesome and will take care of you with his great customer service and lifetime warranty. can't beat it for $149

    hey man love the videos but i have a question i have always thrown smaller swimbaits under 6 ounces but recently i wanted to egt into the bigger swimbaits game i had a friend who told me that i should buy a dawia DX swimbait rod in the heaviest model 4-15 ounces just wondering if this is a good rod to throw 250's bullshooters and some other baits in that region on or is it to heavy and will it just rip the hooks out? Thanks man! tight lines

    • @SwimbaitChronicles
      @SwimbaitChronicles  8 років тому +1

      hey man thanks for watching! the dx in the xxh is 4-15oz and the xh is 3-10oz. so you've only got 1oz diference on the bottom end of the range. theres a lot of guys who like to fish a power up when it comes to s.b. rods cuz they like the feel of a stiffer backbone or rod on smaller baits and dont like the rod to feel overloaded. a lot of times these big bait rods will tend to be more on the parabolic side of things (limber) so if you plan on throwing a 250 you would def need the xxh, but in the same token I'm sure it would fish something like a bullshooter (3OZ) just fine.
      It wont load as much on the cast so be careful of backlashing. and may not be as sensitive with lighter load on it in the water. but will it fish smaller baits? Yes. it will for sure. like i said in the video I've thrown as light as 3.5oz on the dobyns 867 and it fished it no problems. do i use it everyday for lighter baits?, no because i am able to have a dedicated light bait set up.. but in a pinch it does just fine. if I'm worried about tearing hooks out with some of my heavier rods then i will go to strictly mono because it has more stretch to it, thus compensating for the heavier backbone, in hopes i don't tear the hooks out and it gives that fish the extra second to get the hooks.

    • @carsonpesicarizonawelder7718
      @carsonpesicarizonawelder7718 8 років тому +1

      Wow thanks man for the info i was worried i had made a mistake buying the heaviest one i could get but now i see it has multiple uses and it will work just fine thanks for all the help this is a huge relief and keep making those awesome videos!

    • @SwimbaitChronicles
      @SwimbaitChronicles  8 років тому +1

      no worries man. thanks for checking my stuff out. stay tuned, i have a lot of fun stuff planned for the coming months. that xxh will do ya fine for the time being and when your able to, you can get the xh for some lighter stuff 2-4oz and be all set for most of the baits you'd probably want to throw with the exception of some of the mega baits out there. as your bait selection grows so will your rod arsenal lol, its inevitable.

    I love the okuma guide select for the money it is truly a great rod. 125 dollars or 124 dollars and yet it can range from 5 oz to 14 oz pretty great at throwing lighter baits that are 5 oz and yet can also go up to 14 oz.. First starting out I went straight to heavy tackle and I used the usually 400a shimono Cardiff and okuma guide select combo. Neither failed especially the okuma rod and great vid

    its funny watching bass fisherman and bass rod companies trying to figure out how musky baits and rods work. also, less rod movement and a faster correction to straight equals a fast or extra fast action rod losing less fish to head shakes.
    to all that people that want to throw fancy painted 2x4's with treble hooks for trophy fish, look at chaos tackle assault sticks or bulldawg rods. if you have all the money look at saint croix with some combo of the words legend, tournament, and elite. a shock and awe will throw a 1.5 lb bait like its nothing and still get good distance out of a 4 ounce lure.

      @@chadgreen3688 baits and rods for musky. essentially fishing for bass with "swimbaits" is just musky fishing with boutique gear for smaller fish.

      But the rod and baits are all made for bass

      @@chadgreen3688 yeah, they are musky baits, and musky rods, made by bass fishing companies for bass fisherman. and its really funny watching you guys try to figure out how it all works. i will give you an example. rods to throw swimbaits in any size a bass fisherman could ever dream of already existed long before swim bait fishing for bass, but you use dobyns because its a bass fishing company and its considered high end, elite, and cool. they obviously are not made well, as a musky innovations bull dawg pro super magnum will throw a 4 ounce and a 10 ounce and even a 16 ounce well, they wont wear out and they cost 90 bucks less.

      I don’t like dobyns personally they seem kinda just like a meh rod and I would have no problem throwing Swimbait with a musky rod I just don’t like how big the guides are on them I prefer the smaller ones on bass specific rods

    a rigs what do you think about them have you use them which one should I use if you have

      Bein totally honest I've only thrown an a-rig a couple of times and it wasn't mine. It's never really appealed to me because of the excess hooking that happens with them. Hooks all over the body of the fish sometimes when not needed. I feel they do more then need be at times. That's just my opinion though. they catch fish though. That's for sure.
