Hurrah! We can understand each other when we speak of concrete-bound matters. Who cares about justice, truth, the good, when we can agree on what to eat?
Thanks for this! I found your channel a couple of days ago looking for lectures on Sellars, and have since been going through your Aristotle videos. Great stuff, and very clearly communicated concepts! 🙏
Sincerity vs rote or inappropriate response, Goodwill vs manipulation, Open mindedness vs obtuseness. In Searle's Chinese room consciousness is reduced to correct responses to questions. What, however, would happen if the response was outdated? How would a conversation go between Searle's Chinese room and some advanced researcher? The conversation that ensues is indicative of the difference between A.I. and consciousness. Open mindedness requires an updateable awareness of Nature or the world around us. How would Searle's Chinese room update its information? The sign of consciousness lies not in correct responses but in the resolution of incorrect responses.
Does any pholosopher combine hermeneutics with the current understanding of the neurobiology of human behavior, such as Chomsky's understanding of language and "reptile brain/neurohormonal influences on behaviors and thought?
If the professor wants to be taken seriously, he should get a real microphone and learn how to use it so that his voice is recorded at an appropriate level for a UA-cam video.
@@surfism I guess I should have said that if he wants to be taken seriously by people who are not his personal friends, he should improve the audio quality of his video.
Help me out here, because this sounds fine on my computer. Are you saying that it's too soft? Too fuzzy? Too variable? And what kind of microphone do you suggest? I have a lapel mic, but I don't usually use it if I'm recording inside, close to the camera, because it doesn't seem to me to improve the quality much (if at all), and it makes editing trickier.
Thanks Prof, I appreciate these videos very much.
Thanks for all of your informative videos! Philosophy is an interesting subject for me and I learn a lot from you, here!
I enjoyed that very clear presentation

Professor Bonevac, thank you for another interesting video!!!

Professor Bonevac, do you have a plan to make a video about Gadamer’s view on the role of prejudice?
Interesting idea! I'll think about it.
@@PhiloofAlexandria Thanks!!! It would be very interesting topic!

the cover photo is always young white women - great click bait in essence.
who doesnt like some beautiful young white women tho? i dont mind lol
Usually I just let UA-cam pick the cover photo from the content. Occasionally I replace it if it makes me look ridiculous. :)
@@PhiloofAlexandria the pictures are getting a bit odd tbh, particularly the repeated young women.
tell that to chinese in chinese ads. if leftist can get out of their leftist world view they can learn much more.
