Union Pacific Donation Special Through Sidney, NE

- History was made on Friday, November 11th 2022, as the UP Steam Crew pulled a small assortment of historic equipment out of Cheyenne, WY. This assortment of historic locomotives and cars had been donated by Union Pacific to such preservation groups as the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America, and the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad. Much of this equipment (including the world-renowned "Challenger" #3985, and 2-10-2 #5511) had called the city of Cheyenne 'home' for a time spanning greater than 65 years. Alas, we viewed as this beautiful assortment of railroad history was towed Eastbound towards a new lease on life.
Watch here as we continue East with the special into the state of Nebraska. We pause briefly for some maintenance just inside the state line, before continuing on to another stop at Bushnell. We jump ahead to the next morning, where the crew prepares the locomotive in the frigid morning air before once again taking to Union Pacific's magnificent 'Overland Route. Another big day of railroading lay up ahead! Rate. Comment. Subscribe. ENJOY!!! Copyright Nick Valdez Railroad Photography 2022. - Авто та транспорт
That,6936 is a very special engine,,and I can't imagine why they're getting rid of it,, The challenger the 5511,
i work in the shop these units are stored at now. My boss and i had to check out the electrical cabinets of the 6936. I'm going to bug the museum to hire me to rewire the 6936
I hope you can chase it all the way! Fantastic footage so far!
I will miss 3985 and 6936
Great coverage!
Great camera work Nick . It requires a lot of careful maintenance to transport these pieces of history over the long distances they have to travel. Thanks Nick
I wonder if UP will reclaim the 4014's tender once it's restored.
That will happen as they will do a tender swap once the tender is converted to oil. 3985 will reclaim her original tender by then.
Hopefully the challenger gets a new whistle too
Sad to see 3985 in such a pitiful state. Glad she's going to new loving owners. And 5511 will finally get a chance to shine. She's been a hangar queen since retirement.
Not new owners, 3985 will go back to UP once restored to operation
@@KreativeKng They were donated to the museum.
@@KreativeKng You're thinking about the tender, not the locomotive. 3985 went east with 4014's tender because the Big Boy is currently using 3985s tender. 3985 is going to get its original tender back when it returns to service, so 4014s tender will have to be rebuilt and converted for oil burning. Once it's rebuilt, the tender will go back to to Cheyenne, and be reunited with 4014. 3985s tender will then go to Illinois and be reunited with the Challenger. 3985 is no longer owned by the railroad, so it's not going back to Cheyenne after restoration. That's why the locomotives were donated, so they could be restored to run again.
@@KreativeKng not true. However, the donation agreement does give UP the option to reclaim the equipment upon reimbursing the costs.
Amazing footage Thanks Nick......

Well done video!!
Fantastic video my friend like 14
Looks like another locomotive took the lead spot.
Those units are in the shop i work at...
It’s funny that 3985 stool 4014’s tender
The plan is for 4014 and 3985 to exchange tenders once the 4014 tender conversion is complete.
We left Co Bluffs after 8 pm last night.
It had not arrived.
Huge disappointment.
Nick...how often do they have to lube?
Wow very nice with your video
I also do content like that
Where are all of these coming from?
Cheyenne, WY
Ow, man i knew it! Its really the end of 3985............
That’s not true. UP 3985, 5511, and 6936 will be restored to operation by Railroading Heritage of Midwest America. Do research before you express your uninformed opinion. Smh
@@chooch1764 I think he’s saying it’s the end of 3985's career with UP.
@@davidng2336 This person obviously didn’t make that clear. Besides, as long as it’s running, that’s what really matters.
@@chooch1764 people foam over everything. We either deal with it or leave it alone. Me especially, because I hate confrontation.
@@chooch1764dream on, this society does not have the funds to do it.
