Haha, that's my truck! Thanks again! When I can find one, it will have a center console with cupholders, for a short in the future, perhaps?

Brother those wheels were EVERYWHERE in the 90’s and I have to say I love them

@GoddessOfMisfortune Dude I remember neighbors of mine had those exact same wheels and they’re awesome! Don’t ever get rid of those, that completes the look

The *only* thing I'd change about that truck is...the name on the ownership papers!

We need small trucks like this again. You can actually use the bed WITHOUT a ladder. You don't need a huge V8. No bells and whistle needed.

@crouchb15 The bed is still higher than the stock 2 wheel drive ride height pickup trucks of the 70's through 90's. That's the ideal height for me.

Thank the EPA and safety regulations for that. Any vehicle with that footprint (wheelbase times track) has to get 50 mpg and side impact door beams, thicker pillars for roll over protection, plus ABS, Cameras, sensors, and more add weight to it.

I've always appreciated the design feature that starts on the door and blends into the bed rail. Very nice touch.

That hooptie is way too cool. I had one of those back in the day. Slow as heck, but never quit. Rock solid rig.

These old Japanese pickups with the external tie-downs look so utilitarian and cool.

Really Zack, you've been a breath of fresh air with the variety recently. I'm here more often than other 'regulars' I used to prioritize when I have free time.

I bought the first Kingcab delivered to Chattanooga, Tn in early July 1976. I own a different 1976 Kingcab right now. That 92 hp engine, is a beast waiting to be unleashed. My current truck can easily be started off in 2nd gear and will pull all the way to 60 mph. A racing version of an L20b could manage over 70 mph in 2nd. These engines have been used in SCCA racing for decades and held the record for most wins until Mazda brought the Miata to the party. The Datsuns still win many of the classes. If you want to hear something crazy, look up Alex Lloyd drives vintage 510, or numerous videos of Troy Ermish racing. These cars use the same basic engine platform.

Wow - nice throw back for me - 79 King Cab was my first truck back in 1985 - $1500. Mine even had the Weber carb! Wrecked within a year though :(

My dad drove one of these when I was like 5 years old I remember it was tan and seeing that Datsun sign while playing on the back of the truck

Man we should bring back proper, small no-frills pickups like this and those old Rangers and S10's. Right now, the only company I can think of that is doing small trucks right is Alpha with their Alpha Wolf pickup.

My first truck was a 79 Datsun whenever I was in high school in the 90's. I sold it to my cousin and he wrecked it. It was a dependable and powerful truck for what it was. I still regret selling it!

I owned a 1978 king cab with disc brakes and electronic ignition in red. Loved that truck with 7’ bed. Fun to drive yes and good mileage. It was somewhere around 30mpg. I also really liked the tie downs around the bed. Cost me exactly $5000 out the door.

My parents had the '84 720 when I was a kid. I have a lot of memories of riding it to school in the winter, holding the wheel on farm lanes, sometimes even riding in the bed with the dog. I think they had that thing for like 20 years. (The truck, not the dog!)

The 720 pickups were the last Japanese built models, the updated 86 and a half model year Hardbody pickups were built at the ntew Smyrna TN plant when in opened.
Being an owner of several, the 720's are better IMHO.
