Most of these guys don't use really sharp knives. Not that I blame them. I mean, they do have an edge and you can (and will) cut yourself learning tricks but they aren't REALLY sharp knives like my Emerson or some of my fixed blades. I have a few and have held many and have never seen one with a really sharp blade. Which makes sense. So, while you can cut yourself, the bite hitting you is actually not that bad. And, a lot of the better ones have like a half inch of dull edge before the edge starts. I mean, I could be wrong and some of these guys might sharpen the shit out of them or some of the $400 ones might be really sharp (the most I've spent was $50 on a balisong). I have some really nice fixed blades though. I even have a vintage Kukuri Gurkha.

It's simpler to just say that the knife doesn't have enough weight to cut a finger off. It just doesn't happen. I've seen a fingertip cut off before, but that's different.

@@Lucky-lp8do no that is a benchmade 6x series, the handles are designed that way to mimic the discontinued BM4x series. The blade is still very much a live one :) the other knife he is using is a green anodized BRS Premium Alpha Beast 3.0, which also has a live blade.
About the hand eye coordination I think it's just muscle memory for most of it
i mean even if you don't have a trainer you can just tape the blade and learn the trick until you're comfortable taking the tape off
