Okay I was so confused by the Kevin thing when it began because it's clearly not the female gaze and I was confused by how he made so many girls go wild so I was excited when this video came up on my reccommended which talked about it, only to find out this was just a school project? And you're not a professional video-essayist? Wtf this is so good!
14:35 I missed this part of the internet that had the kevin phenomenon, but let me tell you, this article explaining his body language has made me so hilariously aware of my autism. To me, he just looked like he was singing a song in kind of bored and with dead fish eyes. And women thought that looked charming? What??
Yeah, he does look autistic. Probably all these women are just lonely for someone who might treat them like an equal because not staring and not being aggressive is opposite neurotypical men
i really admire that dedication to making extremely fitting graphics, the grwm(ale gaze), vhs filters in the dead girl video, the newspaper articles in the booktok video, ugh so good. excited to see whatever you make next
New fave UA-camr 100% I first saw your video on booktok and as a teenage girl who constantly finds herself grappling with the crossover between anti intellectualism, intellectualism and classism in my day to day life it gave me so much to think about and raised some amazing points. I immediately subscribed but didn’t really check out other videos but went back to today and found this, which again does not disappoint, these videos really display creativity and intelligence, so thank you for making them (shit seems like it takes effort dude)
Loved the Judith Butler transition, moreover the meta transition into the male gaze (where one becomes a literal online observer-one who gazes), got the entire format!! Playing with different perspectives and mediums-on top of being incredibly well researched and informative? Thank you for this, the video was a delight to watch!
i do A-Level (britain...) film studies and this REALLY helped me to understand the female gaze more this is awesome. you have a really bright future in video essays and i hope you do more with this kinda thing :)
Amazing work! A really important topic covered eloquently, with insightful comments and entertaining editing. Art like this is why youtube exists, thanks for sharing :)
I love how well spoken and articulated you are. A lot of things you said are things that I thought but just couldn’t put into the right words and it’s really commendable.
The internet is really stalking me. Taking a detour through my studies on masoch / masochism and sadism to look at the female gaze in theory land - had someone describe my art as "female gaze" and now am in a rabbit hole. Awesome stuff here.
I cannot thank you enough for making this video. I have continued to see people on tiktok use the terms so frequently and incorrectly to the original context. Its been hard to find good discussion on the female gaze that i can actually recommend to people. Great work, I loved this one!!
Amazing video you’re very talented ! thank you for putting in the work to make this ❤ I had similar feelings and this finally taught me why and where. It helped me further understand this & I’ve learned something new through you !
This is the second video that you made that I've watched, your content is very interesting and I really admire what you do, also considering that I'm your age, so I just wanted to comliment you and say that i wish the very best for your channel
alisha, not alisha, my gal!! goddamn! your second video popped up in my homepage, and midway through, i was like, hell yeah, subscribe! how haven't i heard of this girl? so after it finished it, i went to your channel and you have only 3 videos???? and this one was your first???? alisha, were you born knowing how to create perfect video essays on your first attempt? seriously, goddman, not only am i subscribed, but i even hit the bell now! and i don't think you even asked me to do that (what a welcome change btw!) girl, whatever you're doing, keep doing it! these videos are 5* and congrats! you're gonna go far, kid!
I can't pretend that I understand this video, for most of the language is currently out of my grasp, but one thing I'd like answered is: Does the male gaze (in film theory) require specifically a male to be the viewer and a female to be the object? Or can it be any configuration of genders but requiring that the film treats the subject as an object of the viewers' gaze? I'm trying to understand in the best faith I can
From what I understand, it can also be as much informed by the nature of the camera and framing of a subject as an object of desire. Essentially, appealing to an implied male audience/the camera embodying this assumed perspective. So it's arguably sort of a mix of the two you mentioned; the camera, characters, and (assumed masculine/"active") audience reinforcing patriarchal norms, by portraying women as (passive) objects of sexual desire. I can't comment on the configuration of genders tbh, but I've seen it related to the prevalence of insanely, enormously, absolutely herculean muscled men in film as exemplifying the male gaze in an aspirational (possibly erotic) manner. That, however, seems like a more complicated aspect that's out of my limited knowledge of film theory, so like idk make of that what you will. The female gaze is also a thing though (as the video mentioned. In film, it's sort of a response to the idea of the male gaze that doesn't have the active/passive relationship between the camera and the subject but I don't understand it amazingly well and there's a LOT of debate around this entire thing so like, who knows really. I am not a film analyst so I could be totally wrong on this!!! Research this yourself if you can, this is just uhhhh my understanding of it, I guess.
@@himalayansalt32 What makes you say that? I watched the video and I enjoyed the video. I may not have been the demographic in the creator's mind, but I can still enjoy and agree with the video and its analysis and critique. In any case, you, in fact, know nothing about me, so how can you make that judgment?
Wonderful video, I will pray for your ego and dignity as you suggest but if it means anything, I think you got good value out of the sacrifice. The video slaps. Alright, last comment I promise, hope the algorithm picks this one up like the hater video. Goodluck with whatever you work on next :)
my only critique of this video is that you use the terms "perform" and "performance" a lot in different contexts but never define/explain what it means. "perform" in butler's context comes from jl austin's "how to do things with words," where a "performative utterance" is an utterance that does (enacts) the thing that it says. i.e. "i do" in a marriage ceremony. "performance" does not denote fakeness or inauthenticity, simply an act that reifies itself.
Why is youtube recommending me femcel content
LMFAOOO
UA-cam is fruitlessly attempting to make you smarter, but you're too softskulled to get it.
You clicked on the video if u don’t like it leave
Its so joever for you, you have reached a depth that incels don't usually reach, incels getting recommended femcel content
How is this femcel content? Maybe I don’t understand what that term means, but I don’t think this is what it would be
