I have the 2Box drumit 5 mk1 module with a 64 GB card extension connversion loaded with 2Box & VST samples. When I first started playing the 2Box module I found the kick & snare lacking some cut & doesn't have positional sensing but I made my 13" snare play like it has positional sensing. On the snare I'am using 2 different edge triggers mounted @ 11 o'clock & 1 o'clock into the 2Box and a 3rd smaller 27mm center mounted cone trigger (Quartz percussion lowest sensitivity) plugged into my TD11 that adds dry Roland sounds. I'am right handed so the 35mm Quartz percussion cone trigger @ 11 o'clock is the most sensitive. There is an square Extreme trigger @ 1 o'clock it is medium sensitive with a higher threshold setting has the same snare file but always tuned +0.1 more and a decay of 1.5 -2.5 and 40% - 60% volume and that is plugged into Tom 1. Hitting the mesh snare head at different sides and at different dynamics triggers 3 different layers of sound.
I have 4 toms on a splitter cables from the Tom 2 & Tom 3 input. With a guitar ABY pedal I plug the kick into both the TD11 & 2Box modules. Only the snare & kick are connected to the TD11. Different TD11 kits will change the tuning, tone, snare buzz, ring and kick fattness of the combined drum sound. The 2Box open sound does benefit from the fat, tight, attack of the Roland kick & snare sound. The headphone output from a module is plugged into the aux input of the other module and I can still use the metronome and coach function. The 2Box sounds are superior and you can make & play your own multilayered samples. I hope this helps 2Box users get diy positonal sensing and layered sounds.
I’m really looking forward to digging in this module. You always give the most thorough reviews. Things I’m interested would be latency and VST trigger performance against the Edrumin10!!
Great work, Luke. Keep'em coming!:)
We’ll done as usual!
Looking forward to learning more!
It's a rare video to find this module played well and introduced what it can do and what it can't do. And everytime I hear it, feels like it could be the most natural sounding module. Still, cymbals are hard, at least the swells. But, would like to hear more about the module. I still don't own an e-kit, but have been playing drums nearly 40 years. Still planning, that someday when I hear a natural sounding and not ridiculously priced module, I might start building a kit. I really couldn't care less if there is a million kits with d**k slaps and car horns and cat hit by a car. One excellent acoustic kit is a must, and maybe a couple extras. That's it. That's why I'm interested in this particular module. Great video and nice playing, thanks!
You migth want to consider this module and a Jobeky kit with their metal cymbals with rubber rims. It's probably the closest you can get to real acoustic drums at a decent price. It also sounds like the 2box has less machine gunning than even the expensive Roland modules
@@Ozterkvlt I agree on the machine gun. This module sounds a bit better than the others, at least usually. To me it is mind numbing that any decent e-module still suffers from it, after decades of developement. They just keep on adding stupid and useless gimmicks, and don't fix the issues that are the most annoying and fundamental, and that make them sound like artificial. I guess that it was understandable a couple decades ago, when there was not enough computing power and memory, for cheap anyways. But now, Pearl runs a computer that runs a virtual instrument, like on my work desktop computer. So computing power is no longer an excuse, it's about software developement. Only if the developement would go to the most important issues, not to amount of pre installed kits and play-along-songs. Oh well.
It’s got good resonance on the floors. I really like the hi-hat. It’s rings differently than most. I’m still in love with my Mimic however.
Yes more vids like this. Nothing like seeing, hearing and feeling disappointment out the box, lol
Looking forward to seeing what you make of the DI5 mk2 Luke. I’m really enjoying mine . I think the best value module on the market.
Also a small screen means it's less likely my 2yr old will crack the screen when he "plays" my drums - which happened with my previous module :-(
Nice to see 2box featured here, looking forward to seeing the full review. If you're importing VST kits, it will be interesting to see if you run into the infamous glitching/latency issue that some people including myself have encountered.
I'll be on the lookout for anything like that! I've definitely read of a few bits and bobs over the years but it seems that some things are inconsistent so I will do everything I can to replicate and mitigate where possible! Definitely looking forward to digging in now I've started!
Some people? A lot I would say, 2box just ignores them, last OS update was like 2 years ago, don't bother testing it...
Awesome playing!
Thank you 🙏
Great stuff luke your born for doing this lol 😆
9.06 this module sounds incredible.
Hey Luke, nice video introduction on the Drumit. Looking forward to an in depth review😉👍 Just one quick question: how did you find the trigger response on your pads compared to Roland or ad5 ( I know you're not a big fan of this module😁)
Nice video Luke! Just a comment regarding the Zourman 3 Zone Roland Ride cable to Yamaha style inputs. It can be used on 2box Drumit Three and MK5 II (Use the trigger type CYPSY or CYPSS) Note that you will still not be able to free up or use the second 2box cymbal input for triggering something else. So the 3 Zone Ride cable is quite useless on 2box. 😬 (The Original Drumit Five MKI can’t handle Yamaha cymbals or inputs at all)
But it works…
Hey Anders! Thanks for clarifying! Yes, I came to be aware that the B inputs aren't able to be split off as "extra" inputs! Really I just wanted to try out the cable since it supports Yamaha cymbal types as I don't have many of them to try out. I gathered it should work so I'm not sure why I was having trouble getting the correct zones (I had it set as the PSY setting). Will definitely experiment, there's a chance I've just overlooked something. But as you say, I guess it's not necessary since there are 3 lots of 2-input cymbals available!
Really looking forward to that.
Take your time, and Take s Look at SDSE.
Already got SDSE loaded, just need to make the time! 💪
With that module is there a way to have your music from the computer come into the headphone?
Finally Luke - how long have you been sitting on it?! Had mine a couple of months now - the most fiddly bit was setting up the hi-hat (mine's a lemon) but got there in the end using the Alesis settings. Looking forward to the in depth review.
Yeeeeaaaah I had a look at when it arrived and it's been about 2 months 😬 Just moved house so my schedule has been a bit all over the place and it kept getting put on the back burner. Looking forward to getting thoroughly stuck in and will definitely experiment with trigger settings!
Hey Luke, great video, really looking forward to your complete review! Any ideas on when that will be completed? Just a general guesstimate if possible, like a few weeks away or still possibly a few months? :)
Hey! Thanks! It will be in the next few weeks, for sure. Nearly done scripting.
awesome, can't wait!
What hi hat controller did you use, and what steps did you take to set it up? I can't get my MIllenium MPS-1000 hi hat controller to register with this module
many thanks for your work! can you please tell about your electronic pad configuration (choice of drum pads and cymbals pads) and, furthermore, do you think the 2box drumit 5 module will be compatible with the latest TCS pads from yamaha dtx 8 and 10 kits?
Hey! I've got a video on the channel that covers my most recent kit conversion, most of the parts I'm using in this video are shown or detailed there -
ua-cam.com/video/S23Vhx4cRQk/v-deo.html
I've also got another video coming out tomorrow with another module where I'm using the exact same setup and I also talk about the triggers/cymbals in that so look out for it!
As for the newest TCS pads - I would assume so because I don't think they diverge too much from the previous pads in terms of construction/triggering, but I won't know for sure unless I somehow get some in the workshop to test. Not sure how likely that will be.
When's the promised video about the 2Box-Software coming?
Hi. I wanna buy electronic drum kit with pro module. I Have copuple questions about this 2box.
What drum kit you recommended for this module? and is this still good product in 2021?
I've been thinkig about some roland stuff (VAD 306). What is better ROland or 2 box?
Great video as always!! I'm wondering about this one or a Roland TD17, would you recomend it (in terms of playability)? Also, does it have a metronome included? Cheers!
Thank you! It's hard to say how much I could recommend it right now as I've only clocked a few hours on it. I'll only really be able to say once I've put in enough time to do the review but it's promising so far though, as I say in the video, I've not ironed out every little kink yet. It does have a metronome, though I haven't used it yet so not sure how flexible it is. Check out the manual, it should explain it there.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop thank you for the answer!! I look forward to the full review then, mostly interested in playability as I'd put sounds from VST. Keep It going!
Has a metronome.
I’ve owned the original 2box, now I own a TD17. Simply put, the TD17 is easier to manage, everything is pretty much ready out of the box. The 2box sounds better (way better), has multiple outputs, a lot more powerful, even without the (huge advance) of uploading multilayered samples. But, it’s more involved, more setup time, no Bluetooth (not a big deal for me personally) and just more time to fiddle than playing in my personal experience. I kept the TD17 with its compromises.
@@sica4873 thanks for the input! Yeah that is something a bit offputting for me tbh, but I guess once you crank your Kit to go after you don't need to fiddle in too much? Appart from the annoying menus and setting management, would you say It triggers as well as the Roland TD17?
Cheers!
It still shocks me how good this module sounds.
Until you discover it sucks at triggering…
@@bluesiliconedot2190 Can't be fixed by tweeking around with the settings?
@@samueldette6401 it triggers perfectly if you know what you are doing
@@bluesiliconedot2190 guess you didn't read the manual then.
My kit is all done with triggers made by me and the module plays like a dream.
When is the rest of this video coming out?
Hoping it'll be within the next week!
Nice!... im actually in two minds between replacing my TD25 with the TD27 or the 2Box 5 MK2... ?im all about the sounds but also very important, playability... thx so much
IMO I think you should purchase the 2Box and keep the TD25. The 2Box sound is the best but does take time to learn the module. Have every pad & cymbal plugged into the 2Box. With extra triggers for snare (center is best) and a splitter box (guitar ABY pedal) for the kick output plugged into the TD25 & the 2Box. The TD25 only has snare and kick so you can adjust the layered sounds when changing the 36 Roland kits. The 2Box and imported VST sounds are very, very good but does benefit from a tight dry Roland snare and kick.
@@sammcdouall4849 that idea sounds awesome man!! Thx so much!
@@sammcdouall4849 how you trigger the td 25 with the 2box ? can you explaine please ?
@@voederbietels The first step is to plug the full kit into the 2Box module. With the snare you will need to purchase a second trigger (maybe try Quartz Percussion trigger with the velcro straps) that is center mounted. Connect this trigger to your Roland snare cable, remember to reduce some sensitivity for the roland sounds (Roland snare should only trigger with medium-hard hits).
For the kick purchase a guitar ABY pedal 1 input with 2 outputs. Plug the output of the kick into the ABY pedal then the 2 outputs into the kick of the 2 different modules.
Now when the Roland kits are changed it only changes the kick and the center triggered snare sounds. This is a layered sound so remember to adjust the sensitivity, muffling, tunning, volume and reverb for Roland sounds.
Lastly plug one modules headphone output into the other modules input so you only have outputs from 1 module ( or both modules into a 10 channel mixing board for live).
I hope this helps.
@@sammcdouall4849 wow ur cold going to dive in to it. realy cool. thanks a lot!
I own this 2box and am happy with it, but I am considering buying a TD50x. Is it even worth it?
yes
Any update on this Luke? Interested to know your thoughts…
I've got it mostly scripted but there have been a couple of bits that I've been in communication with 2Box/the distributor about that have delayed things. All will be covered in the review when I'm able to get it done.
How is the hihat ? Especially when you try to play fast open close stuff
It really sucks…
@@bluesiliconedot2190 I had the first module and it was the thing that made me sell it
@@MrPascal869 it’s a balancing act, what do you prefer, excellent hardware and triggering but bad sounds (roland) or terrible hardware and terrible triggering but supreme sounds (2box)?
Will you consider making packs for this?
Yeah, I'll have stuff for the DrumIt modules! It's a bit more involved, but I've already been recording some multi-layered samples!
@@TheeDrumWorkshop awesome!
what stand did that just slip into ?
I can't remember which brand it is off the top of my head, but it's the base of a cymbal stand and I believe the hole is 7/8th inch. It should fit in any stand with the same size fitting. I talked about this option for drum modules in this video (from around the 13:30 mark) -
ua-cam.com/video/u8yWwc2bpKk/v-deo.html
I think edrum manufacturers put those small screens just to annoy us.
I think you might be right!
can't find one stateside AT ALL
That's a real shame 😔 According to the 2box website, Hoshino USA Inc is the distributor for 2Box in the US. Not sure whether that actually helps though...
Ordered mine on black friday on guitar center website. 200 dollar savings that day.
Their colour choices are really poor, especially for those with eyesight issues. The orange on the grey is hard to read, and the LCD is hard too. What a shame
Thanks for the video. Better without the music. I don't want to have to listen to some music that annoys me just to hear what someone is saying so stopped at 2:00.
Sorry to hear that. There's no music beyond 2:59, just as a heads up.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Good tip! Thanks
