I feel bad for KP really, people are blowing the situation so out of the water and are just being the most wretched and despicable I've ever seen.
She did something wrong, something which we don't actually know if people truly sat down with her and told her their problems at the time, but she apologized and has tried to make amends, and yet still even now the rumors and some frankly obnoxious lies are just spreading like wildfire because people just loooove the drama. Its messed up, and for a fandom that preaches 'love and tolerance' I'm seeing none. Its pathetic and sad, do people not realize she is a living breathing person like anyone else?
It's turned from spreading information about what someone did that was wrong into straight up cyber-bullying, and I hope things get better for her soon.
No one blew anything out of the water, except for the leaked assests thing, which no one really cared about. What people we're actually complaining about was how KP was abusive to the people on her team (mostly the animators and general production). The drama mostly died down after the apology, but people are still skeptical, and we're waiting for her actions to speak for herself.
and your evidence that she bullied anyone? I'm certain you have some, but after this video, I'm taking pretty much everyone who continues this cycle of controversy with a grain of salt XD
Tons of NON-ANONYMOUS testimonies uploaded to youtube or other media from victims or friend of victims (such as Minty Root or itsannachloem). There are also instances where KP herself publicly told her fans to send hate on one of her animators for being late (he was late because one of his family members were hospitalized). I also wouldn't call it bullying, it's more like low-key slave labour.
From all the digging I did, there is no real evidence. All we have is second/third-hand accounts and one or two people who need to move on with their lives. Oh, and those useless idiots who think they know law. All of this guff should have been handled internally, but KP being KP, she decided that she needed to publicly shame herself in order to try and get a handful of people to feel better. It obviously didn't work too well. Still, I give her mad props for even trying, she's got more of a spine than most people.

...three things stand out to me right now.
One: someone just went out of their way to read the tldr of U.S. law, then proceeded to record, edit, and present a video about the drama to which this legal fluff does or does not relate, all in the defense of an individual that lives thousands of miles overseas. This fandom can be great like that.
Two: the bulk of nearly everyone else has mostly been raising torches and pitchforks screaming this: 29:50

I think about this video so much, it remains my favorite piece of brony history. I remember when it dropped, 14 year old me in shock and so proud. Also... never getting why everyone cared about stolen assets so much lmao. Antony my hats off to you, what you did for this fandom remains unmatched.

I guess the real question now is should the video go back up? I initially thought different because I didn't know better but now I'm thinking perhaps it should... :) My only critique would be that the title suggested it was about the entirety of the controversy surrounding her and although it did cover one of the main arguments, there were definitely other significant arguments you didn't touch upon. Here's what I don't get. Everyone supposedly 'exploited' by KP... they volunteered, right? KP didn't promise them money and then not pay out, as far as I know. And if you volunteer your time, you are just as free to unvolunteer it if you don't like how your time is spent. So I'm at a bit of a loss here as to what she did wrong? She was mean? Okay. Quit. Don't work for mean people. She doesn't share credit? Okay. Quit if you need recognition. She is a bad person? Okay then... again... quit.
What really annoys me is this Trumpian effort to some how make KP out as a cross between Margaret Thatcher and Eiser who eats babies as well. No one is perfect. Not KP. Not me. Not them. And no where have I ever seen KP claiming that she's saint KP. I mean if she has then dumb move on her part, but I've never seen it. She produces light, easily digestible, mildly amuseing content for me to enjoy for free. I go to other reviewers for deeper scrutiny (Silver Quill, Doctor Wolf, Tommy Oliver, and Madmodd for example). So again, this seems like a lot of effort to demonize and debase a woman that honestly hasn't done anything wrong. And if she's unpleasant to work with, quit, and let her be a creator instead of a producer.
So what am I missing here?

Every time I see one of your videos posted, it legitimately brightens my day, and sometimes my entire week. I've been watching your channel since Canterlot Wedding, and your majestic talent to provide such quality entertainment astounds me. I laugh till I cry and I love it. I haven't really been in the fandom for a while, but know that I, and most likely a significant chunk of your fan base, will follow you wherever you decide to go, colorful horses or no.

6:32 Technically using the assets for money I can see the problem, but thats like saying mugen is illegal or something. Technically she shouldn't've monetized it but I think it should be legal for non-monetization since the work was transformational.
And it doesn't even look like an official account or anything, so she could've ignored it, and gotten backlash that'd sure end up with hate mail and all the animators with their names listed would prolly quit but you could still leave it posted til someone tries hacking your stuff, in which case make the longest craziest password possible and write it down somewhere.

There are very few pony UA-camrs left that I still subscribe to.
Antony is among them. And there's no sign of me unsubscribing to him. ... I'm starting to think all this "I'm subscribed! I'm NOT subscribed" business has put up barriers to our tastes that don't actually exist. If you want to stop following someone, you can. ........ just don't be an arse about it. In a world where love and tolerance is shamed upon, I realize one reason why we love MLP so much is because it's a world that DOESN'T exist here, and we like escapism.

I also want to say that the actual button mash was in the mlp show when the CMC look for a date for Cheerilee. He was in it for an exact FIVE. SECONDS. What assets were there for him?!
The ones that were used for even one second. If a character appears in the show in any visual state there are assets. Every single character you ever see has a complete animation sheet full of turns, walk cycles and everything, even if they're never used.
As is literally the point of puppet animation.
If he was in the show ofcourse they had assets for him but thats not illegal as was pointed out in the video there are many reasons why that is impractical and pointless such as redraws.
I have been away for awhile but I was very sad to learn a little of KP's video John De'Lancie tribute video, in that it was no longer up. It was made with respect & love for the entire fandom & her favorite actor. I for one found it so neat! So many talented people contributed to its existence. It's sad that Hasbro has taken such a turn against the very fans that helped to support & love the vision that Lauren Faust started, & others followed upon. I will always love the early days of the show & the wonderful fans. It was good times. I don't know much about the drama concerning KP, but honestly I don't think I need to. She was a wonderful contributor to the facebook brony community, & that is what is important. UA-cam really seems to be going downhill fast. Sad day in Ponyville.
Oh thank goodness! I was so hoping everyone misinformed about the whole thing, because it really just didn't seem right to begin with. And all the hate going around was terrible. And I'm sure KP was just feeling all around hurt and terrible.

I've had a theory that the person(s) behind all this hubbub a while ago did all this because of a misunderstanding of the terms of their involvement with the show.
Looking into what the rabble-rousers have to say about the whole thing, it would seem that KP went back on a promise she made to her team to give shout outs to the artists and animators channels and works. My theory is that the ones responsible for this drama were the ones who had neither art nor demo reel to showcase on youtube, deviantart or other sites so KP never gave them a shoutout since nothing was there to direct attention to.
The only somewhat valid complaint I've seen from the drama mamas was a single video where KP blamed a delay of a video on her team, some of whom were having problems irl.
'Course, this is all dead and buried. I just wanted to theorize.

I do wonder. Where did you learn how to articulate yourself so smoothly, satisfyingly and sophisticated? You use stylistic devices, pull alliterations out of nowhere and the way you deliver your lines, the inflection and the pacing are constantly incredibly on point. Your vocabulary is very broad.
Did you take language studies? Were you raised well? Did you decide to learn this for yourself? Have you acted? Do you write poetry?
I completely realize that you have a script, but there's much more to it. Even just coming up with these lines is impressive, not to mention the delivery.

Well, loads of respect for being the one person who actually went out and did the research on the cited laws. I don't think many people would have the patience/attention span to do that. As far as that goes, you did a pretty thorough job. There is too much character assassination muddying the waters here.

Cacti retract their needles out of fear of piercing his skin. A baby opens its eyes for the first time and screams out a loud, "It's about damn time and it is glorious." And my grandmother asks "Who the hell is Anthony C?"

"kindly find me one single example of someone getting in official hot water over use of these assets": Journey of the Spark, the 2014 fan animation project commonly referred to as JotS, received an official CnD from hasbro (not even indirectly through any of their youtube videos, but directly to them as a studio) because they were using puppet rigs based on the Wonderbolts academy leaks. After that they basically cut out animation from their project as a whole and switched to an audio drama. Those leaks being so widely used by the fandom is what lead to a much tighter scrutiny of fan animation projects by hasbro, and lead to the negative effects on projects like button mash. Whether or not the use of leaked assets falls under fair use in a federal court of law is honestly irrelevant unless an animator actually has the 10k to shell out on a lawyer (that's probably a low estimate) and have a judge make a ruling. The fact remains that hasbro doesn't like it, and we don't really have a way of fighting them on it.
On a further note, the leaking of the assets was a big factor in DHX and Hasbro's choice to amend the contracts with their animators forbidding them from working on fan projects. Whether or not the leak was done by a certain temporary intern at DHX (who shall remain anonymous ) aside, a good friend of mine who works at hasbro was forced to withdraw from working on fan projects they had been a part of for over a year in order to not be fired from their job. This does have more so to do with the sole fact that there were leaks at all, and not whether or not fans are using them, but it certainly doesn't help that they became such a big issue, especially with the recent leak of all of the season 1 preproduction assets.
If only someone had simply told her to use Tired brony's flash rigs (which were largely based off of the leaks but never copy and pasted) [ tiredbrony.deviantart.com/art/Mare-Pony-Base-Puppet-Rig-432594286 ] this whole mess with the leaks in the video could have really been easily avoided.
The more recent issue, which this video fails to address, is the large number of the animators working on the project coming forward claiming they were overworked, had unreasonable expectations set for them, and threats of no credit given to them if they didn't comply. That is however basically just a big mess of he said she said, and thus it's pretty hard to argue other than just point of veiw.
Slight clarification, JotS didn't out of the blue receive a CnD, but after they had applied to hasbro for permission to continue their project, Hasbro saw the DHX assets being used and then gave them a CnD.

Ironically, I wouldn't recommend the the leaked assets, they're just awful for animation. So many better kits out there, all under just as heavy legal scrutiny as the official ones, but much better for posing.

As much as I dislike KP's reviews, my position on the matter is similar regarding the use of these leaked assets. Funny how so many people who pirate the software they use to create their own content, often so highly derivative of Hasbro's IP, sit there and condemn the actions of another doing the very same thing, rather humorous double standard indeed.
That's not to say what she and you did was not illegal:
This situation is rather interesting isn't it, considering the assets being used were not meant for public purchase or use through licensing, unlike pirating a commercially available movie or piece of software. Blah blah blah, must be determined in a court of law, we know, obviously it's all speculation, but really arguments like "I can't find this information in legal documentation" and "Well, it's transformative...err...fan art!" probably wouldn't hold up too well in legal proceeding, especially without more substantive arguments pertaining not only to some of the points you raise, but other factors that may or may not determine fair use. Just how altered are these assets? Are the assets altered enough to reasonably say they are transformative? Transformative also applies to medium jumps, if I take animation assets and make an animation, that's less transformative than taking animation assets and producing a still image, or printing it out on a piece of paper. How do the assets non-commercial availability effect the outcome? Non-commercial use can still be deemed not sufficient for fair use, much like using most of a work can also be deemed fair use. Exactly tracing assets can be argued as misappropriation, how and to what degree are you altering the traced assets after tracing? Me proclaiming the assets are altered may help my defense, but not guarantee it. There is so much more nuance to the question than both sides are arguing. To be fair, you do admit you might be wrong, and you probably are, but honestly the situation would likely never escalate to this degree anyways, so really who gives a fuck. If Hasbro has beef, they'll deal with it. Personally I can empathize with being in the position of not wanting to put in a fuck load of my time to create assets that are sitting right in front of me, raring to go at the drop of a hat, especially when all around me, content creators aren't getting hit over using said assets. Why the fuck wouldn't I exactly? Don't answer that, it's rhetorical.
I've seen so much lunacy and hyperbole come out of this entire debacle, more-so pertaining to conjecture regarding annecdotal accounts of how KP has been treating her staff. You know, the staff who are perfectly autonomous and can leave whenever they feel like, because you know, she doesn't have a gun to anybodies head forcing them to work for her. The degree of transparency when agreeing to work for her is perfectly sufficient, at least in my experience, and I have emails to prove it. Laid about are the terms to agreeing to be on the team, and numerous ways to get in contact with senor staff if you have any questions or concerns. I applied to be an editor sometime last year with the intention of sneaking various quantities of horse porn into her videos for the lulz. I made the finalist round and stopped caring after realizing I had to actually do work, fuck that jazz, but during the entire process everything was laid out in front of me, I was not promised anything I've been hearing many people claim these individuals 'deserve' for their work on her team. Look if you're agreeing to laid out stipulations, and then getting all upset later because of the hours you're expected to work, or because you're not getting paid, or you think you're being treated unreasonably, leave you moron, you agreed to these terms, you have nobody to blame but yourself for sticking around. That's not to say she wasn't treating her staff poorly, I don't know, I'm not an all seeing and knowing god, but putting all the blame on KP and not realizing that accountability also falls on those who agree to the terms of the agreement, and _choose_ to stick around regardless of these perceived transgressions is obviously not thinking about the matter rationally.
The whole thing was and perhaps still is completely overblown (As most large scale drama tends to be), lots of irrational group think, many virtuous cries and proclamations of moral righteousness from hypocrites - not enough grounded, reasonable views on the matter. But hey, what else is new.

I strongly agree the KP drama was blown pretty out of proportion, and the Anon KP twitter was pretty cancerous. While I do have my disagreements with how things were done on the team, in hind-sight things could've been handled better. As for the assets though, wasn't Double Rainboom taken down for assets?

Wow, I'm glad you came along to clear all that up. Also bravo for sticking up for your friend. As for the copyright laws, it sounds like they're confusing and convoluted enough to allow corporations to be as strict as they want when protecting their IP's, but lenient enough to where it gives you the perception of "fair use" in various situations.
I would say that they should rewrite the law to make it more clearer on what falls under "fair use" to avoid situations like these, but the problem is if you sure up a law that fixes items a, b, and d, then it might end up fixing up things that didn't need fixing like item c.
For example if you create a law that prevents people from giving away spoilers in a movie, during a review, then it becomes the question of how much of it do you give away for a review. And what's a spoiler exactly? How can you review a movie/TV show without giving away part of the plot? Do you go by how much of that plot is given away in said trailers to limit how much of the plot you're allowed to give away? And what would qualify as a spoiler? If I did a review on Captain America: Civil War, then would it be a spoiler if i said Spider-Man was in the film, even though that's given away in the trailers? Would it be a spoiler if I said Captain America and Iron Man are going to fight in the film? Would that be a spoiler? Would it be a spoiler if I said that at some point Captain America is going to fight someone?
And what qualifies as a review? From talking to some people, some folks think that merely posting your opinions in a comment section of a youtube video, or online forum, is enough to qualify as an official review. Therefore, if someone said, "This movie sucks" in the comment section of a youtube video, then some people say that's a review. And let's say for instance that person, while saying it sucks, goes into detail why he thinks it sucks. And in doing so, then would you say he/she broke the law for merely stating that opinion in a comment section of a video?
If you ask me, I think this is getting entirely out of hand. I honestly didn't mind if KP used leaked assets to make her video because it wasn't monetized anyway, so it's not like she was stealing the assets to make money for herself. I was however disturbed by hearing how she treated her staff in the past, but she apologized about it, and that's mostly between them, as I can only go off of what was said about it.
Although this fandom preaches "love and tolerance" a lot, it amazes me how few bronies actually practice it. However, that's a different topic for another day.
