Thank you so much, this was very helpful, I had just started learning about maps last week and couldn't understand my teacher no matter how many times he tried explaining it to me, but now, thanks to you, I do, so please keep making more helpful videos like this 🙏
@bilanbilangirma-xl6kk check the videos I have covered all most everything that you need to know on calculations you might find what you are looking for in the videos 🙂
A lot of learners make mistakes or forget to convert before working out their solutions, this is due to exams stress and or pressure at the time. Hence it is advisable to measure in cm 🙂
Watch this video you will understand Geography Mapwork: Conversion of metrics (Cm to meters)(Km to meters)(m to KM) Scale conversion ua-cam.com/video/EAKduMOWrKw/v-deo.html 🙂

Hi they teach us smth else, so can you just please explain what is this compared to urs lol. So basically it asks distance from coral street to johns street= 10cm Scale= 1/150000 Then my teacher teachs us to divide 100000 by 150000 bc 1cm = 100000 and so i got 15/10 then we divide them which gives us 1.5 and then multiply by 0.15 and 10 (which is the distance)
That sounds confusing. But this is how I would approach it. Times 10cm with 150000 and get the answer then divide your answer with 100000 to get your final answer in kms🙂
It’s an old system simple method of conversion basically using the KHDMDCM to convert from one metric to the other. I will try and make a short video on it🙂

Another method
You can use the actual distance =map distance ×map scale
Remeber that when you calculate a distance using topographical we use 0,5
😂 you just explained what’s on the video 🤷🏾♂️ but weldone
great explaination but, is it not just 6cm?,how is it 6.6cm??? but thanks really helpful.
😅 yes 6,6 cm because we measured the road until the end of it🙂. You’re welcome 😉
Thank u very very this will help me for my exam❤😂
Pleasure 😅
But in grade 9 for calculating the distance in Topographic map to km it is crucial for us to multiply it by 0,5 and we get the answers in km .
Do you understand why you multiply with 0,5?
My teacher said that its better to measure in mm then convert to cm as you will get a accurate reading
A lot of learners make mistakes or forget to convert before working out their solutions, this is due to exams stress and or pressure at the time. Hence it is advisable to measure in cm 🙂
YOU ACTUALLY COOKED😚
😂 Danko
Sir, please help me. I am writing tomorrow. Can I use mm to measure on my ruler instead of cm
You can but only if you will be able to remember to convert back to cm. However, I would advise you to stick to cm🙂
Can you teach me your method of conversion
Video uploaded explaining 🙂
How can we calculate irregular distance please

Ah 😂 thanks so much u are mobile than my geo teacher

Hy .
Can you help me with my homework base on calculating distance
You should he able to follow these steps on the video to calculate the distance 🙂
What are you struggling with?
Where did that 100000 came from in that method , I'm lost in that
I am simply converting from Cm to Km hence we divide by 100 000
Ama subscript to that!
If we are not told to change to km etc. We leave the answer Like that right
You will always be asked to which metric you must calculate your distance 🙂
@@EverythingGeography7 thanks

Where did you get 100 000
Because I am converting to kms
What is 1:50000 REPRESENTS? IS IT A GUIDE?😊
That’s the map scale
@@EverythingGeography7oh, I mean 1:50000 is the scale factor of the map, You need to estimate the distance may be eg 4 cm =17-20 km😊
@PeachandMario calculate yes
Thanks I have futher idea now to do my calculations.
Pleasure 😉
What is the formula
Distance measured times map scale it’s explained in the video
How did you get 6,6?
6,6cm is the distance I measured from the map🙂
you should teach me
Definitely 🙂😅
Hi they teach us smth else, so can you just please explain what is this compared to urs lol.
So basically it asks distance from coral street to johns street= 10cm
Scale= 1/150000
Then my teacher teachs us to divide 100000 by 150000 bc 1cm = 100000 and so i got 15/10 then we divide them which gives us 1.5 and then multiply by 0.15 and 10 (which is the distance)

Why das meters not have a number
I’m not sure if I understand your question?
I thought you take 6.6 × 500 because it's topographical and 500 to get to km
Oh no that’s a huge mistake. You must check the scale of the map you’re using first before you could convert anything.
No if u want to convert to km u multiply by 0,5 and in metres thats when u multiply by 500 ok?
