Don't give up. Heat those fuel supply lines up at the barb and push them together. They will go to the stop point.

I'm buying an '86 AS 222 tomorrow actually. The guy that owns it has taken spectacular care of it,... since buying in 2004. It has twin 90's on it now which I will deal with until I need to make a change, then I'll make it a full tranny, and put a 200 on a Bob Machine Shop bracket. I'll need to do some research on the bracket at that point, but that's a long way off. loving your videos... fun and educational.

I would be concerned about the connections bouncing loose over time so I would clamp those connections. Since that tube is flexible I’d bring it out your sender hole to fit some clamps and an elbow as suggested below.
Something to keep in mind by having your sender at the bow is it will give you low fuel level alarms earlier than if the sender is at the stern.
Finally double check your seals too for fuel leaks, I had to re-seal my fittings in my tanks even though no fuel leaked. Fumes were able to escape thus causing the potential for an explosion.
Looking forward to seeing the completed project.

Turn the tank around. Route the full and vent hoses. If you don’t want to do that they set flexible nylon tubing and a bronze pickup that has a barb on it. Pursuit uses this exact pickup setup on some of their bigger boats for their auxiliary tanks.

Yeah man, I used nylon tubing with a brass Barb at end to weight it down and connect the screen. I need it in this position, cause the live well/leaning post I'm gonna use will be in the way of accessing

All fuel fittings need to be fully fitted and double stainless clamped. you only get 1 chance to get it right

The fuel pick-up mod should work. The main concern would be the alcohol resistance of the pvc tubing. Regulator boats used some flexible pick-ups a few years back and had to recall them. They ended up curling in the tank, sometimes upward so customers were running out of fuel with better than half a tank left. It was unclear whether it was alcohol related or if the tubing came from a roll and went back to its original curved state. I changed at least 40-50 pick-ups, most were still fine but some had definitely distorted. Wonder if a custom bent copper tube would be a move positive modification.

I used nylon tubing as the research I did found that material was the least reactivate to gasoline. I also added that metal coupler at the end to help keep the end down. Do you know if the tubing you saw curl up was made out of nylon?

Marcel Can Do That Couldn't say what it was made of to be honest. I know that many tank manufacturers use pick-ups that are some sort of plastic/nylon/poly etc. You also have the benefit of being able to use ethanol free fuel as an option in Florida. Were not so lucky up here in the north (Rhode Island). I do applaud your efforts in this restoration project. It's a lot more than many of us would be willing to undertake.

My concern is when you put gas in the tank the fuel will move /float the fuel line up out of the gas and sea tow is needed . bad day of fishing

Is the flexible pickup still holding up? Kind of in a similar situation with the Moeller tank we just got. I’d be worried in rough waters the pickup would be bouncing within the tank and at lower fuel levels it would bounce up and out of the fuel momentarily sucking air. That is not ideal at WOT or higher rpms. What was your experience, cheers!

I wonder if you could have bought the same tank with a different model number that had everything turned the way you wanted it?

should have put an elbow on the fuel line...the line will vibrate loose where the fitting o rings connect to tank. It puts un even pressure on one side of fitting thus will break seal eventually.

    • @marcelft
      @marcelft  5 років тому

Humm..never thought of that. I gotta think about how to get an elbow in there. The extenders the company sold were made out of a flexable material, but they do not make it for this style fitting. Thanks I may wind up redoing it before final install.

Bottom of pickup line should have been hard down at rear of tank, when motoring along bow is raised, you gain full tank fuel access, tank should be installed on 5 - 10 mm rubber pads for absorption and impact. I would also have cut side stringer outer walls fully off and not just removed the inner old foam so that when refilling with full length foam you gain extra buoyancy and less flex in floor. This ties all stringers into boat side walls and extends through to bow

Dude your fuel pickup and fittings need to
be toward the stern for fuel
Pickup! Otherwise when planning on a 1/4 tank of gas you will be sucking air

Thanks! Ive been in analysis paralysis with what center console and live well I am going to use. I dont want to start putting rigging tubes until I know what console I will use. Once rigging tubes are in, then I can re-foam stringers. I have gone back and forth between buying (cant find one I really like that isnt big $$$$, making my own, or hoping to find a used one. In the mean time I have been fixing my buddies paddle board.

@@marcelft Well If you want an opinion here's mine, Aquasport always put in a low wide console. They are useless for today's electronics. I would go to Marine Liquidators in Fort Pierce. They have a huge selection as you know and I would look for a tall narrow console. one that allows easy passage fore and aft with rods and T-Top legs in place. Im a big fan of transom livewells due to there location. They can be fairly large and they are up high. Since you closed the transom this could work.
