Nice to see this footage back. In 2012 I visited Long Beach, which is 9.000 km from my home. On TV I always thought to see a roller coaster on the background. When I was there I discovered that it was a bridge that looked like a roller coaster, in remembrance to amusement park The Pike on that location :)
Paul Tracey did get it right in 2000, magnificent drive from 18th on the grid. Alex Zanardi was determined to win everything when he drove for Ganassi, some those drives were outstanding.
Such beasts of cars. a sad hey had to fall victim to the politics of the split. races like this show how the obsession with ovals as the only type of racing is wrong. There's much more to racing than just ovals, races like this prove to be a true champion you have to master all types of tracks.
+easleyrider yeah. I'll really miss milwaukee, my absolute favourite oval of them all, watched a lot of classic indycar races from there in the off season. but yes, obviously by now all we've proved is that the only thing wrong with cart in 1995 to some of those planning their split, was who was running it. the format is becoming the same (with less ovals and road courses, it seems) but with much worse on track product. Cheers Tony, hope it was worth it!
Most of the lap records that they broke were 2007 records; and had the split continued then they were never going to go to a new car. Champ Car were never going to "win" this (as much as anyone could have won the split) anyway...
is it me or is the sound kind of weird on this video? i don't know how to explain it..but it just sounds weird. or maybe i damaged my hearing thanks to too many loud cars haha. anyway enjoyed the race
+taufiqutomo Don't forget in the 1990s, most transmission signals were going from an openwheel racecar up to a helicopter or a blimp above the circuit. If a car goes under a bridge, overpass or a tunnel, the signal is blocked until the car clears the blocked areas. Today you can put signal receivers and stuff anywhere including today's openwheelers with wireless technology.
Two major lasts in this race: Last race on this circuit configuration, before the section around the aquarium and theme park came in and also the last LB race for multiple winner Al Unser Jr
v2_ 1:33:40 Yes, it was great. I mean, did you even watch the race past the first half hour? One of the best finishes in indycar history, and you focus on a pile up early in the race.
This race is so good. Absurd crowds, beastly cars, drivers on the ragged edge, nonstop action and a finish straight from a movie
The cars are just monsters. Look at the in car shots! I miss the days of small body work and no bumpers.
My first ever auto race I was there. It was one of the best experiences ever. Zanardi coming back to win. Best race in the world Long Beach.
Spoiler Alert

We miss CART
What a charge by Zanardi!
the sweet sound of thoes 2.65l v8's!!
And the beautiful aerokit. At the same time, I think today's indycar aerokit looks great too.
Hooray! Loving these high-quality videos!
Fantastic race.

There are only like 5 ovals on the schedule. Basically, we're back to CART in a much slower and less popular way. Sad.

the DW12 with the aerokits has broken the CART track record at most tracks that they both raced at
+IceAgeComing meh. it took them 15 years to reach 1999 speeds. wow. If champcar had won they'd be faster now and not having flying car issues too

alex knew where he wanted to pass bryan and faked him out one lap before making his move! brilliant skill!
That PPG Supra though!
they should have fought to keep zanardi a lap behind more haha!
Once again Andretti gets knocked out of the race because of a tire! More of your Andretti luck!
🤠🇺🇸CHAMP CAR 🇺🇸🤠 🏝️🌊🌴LONG BEACH 🌴🌊🏝️ GOOD RACE, REALLY ENJOYABLE, NNT THANKS.👌🇬🇧

Zanardi always did the best burnouts. We was robbed :(
amen
Michael Andretti's tire puncture kinda looked a lot like Kimi Raikkonen's tyre puncture in 2005.
What a Fragfest this Race was!
nice
Why do past onboard cameras in both F1 and CART went into static when they pass under bridges and tunnels?

Thanks for the explanation :)
these old indycars look a lot like classic f1 cars

where was little al in 99?
He broke his leg on the first lap at Homestead and missed some races
didn't remember that, thanks
Zanardi era um piloto arrojado
32:38 😂😂😂
"CART was great!"
31:20. 31:20 .
No it was embarrassing.
TheVICEman Still better than IRL, who had empty grandstands everywhere they went

Microcephalic argument.
