    For the most part I agree with most of this, however Sir Hiss (IMO) is best played to Nottingham. This ensures you always have a fate spot you can go to if you need it. You placed a lot of emphasis on the two locations without a fate but a slow board like John will need to slow others. He is the only board that once he gets a card (Sir Hiss) can fate every turn for the rest of the game.

    Prince John is my favorite villain in the game. Very straightforward to play. 'Cowardice' is a great way to get some expensive allies (Rhino Guards) on the board for free saving you power. The 'Bow & Arrow' item costs one power and gives an ally +1 strength but also lets them vanquish a hero while only losing the 'Bow and Arrow' sparing your ally.

      My favorite villain is malificent. It is very easy to play if you can get 1 curse in your hand, as from there, you can usually lock the board with more curses, making it very fast to win. However, I have an upcoming game, and someone else took malificent, so im using prince john.

    What I've done as a strategy is if u have greed keep that in ur hand and try to get the 2nd one. If u have both in ur hand u could aim to get 14. Preferably 16 power to have a little bit of a buffer. But u could play both cards at the right time for a sneaky win.

    • @shawnlyons6543
      @shawnlyons6543 Рік тому

      In a 2 player game, greed is cool in that if you play it during your opponents turn, when you have 17 power you win at the start of your turn.
      If you have 20 to end your turn, your opponent knows they have to fate you, otherwise they lose, so they move to a location with a fate. However, when you have 17 they might think they can wait to fate until the next turn so they may not go to a fate location, thus making it impossible to stop you if you play greed.

    • @PhillipG34
      @PhillipG34 Рік тому +1

      @shawnlyons6543 when I made this comment way back. It was before the Introduction to evil expansion which had prince john revamped. Ur just need to get to 20 and have robin hood in the jail. I agree with u for the old one. But now 14 is even more of a goal especially if u already have robinhood in the jail.

      Edgar haha! With all the expansion villains he is hardly chosen anymore in our groups. But I do like him for people newer to the game as his goal is super easy to grasp. I bought and played disney villainous two days ago with my family and we absolutely had a blast as it's easy to grasp, I played PJ, my dad was Hook, and my mom was Maleficent, she was playing curses like crazy in the early game so we started fating her like crazy, I don't know how rare it is is but we got rid of like 2-3 curses in one fate because of aurora and I believe flora or merryweather? Whichever destroys the curse and it was just funny 😄 my dad was struggling as captain hook so I'm going to send him your hook strategy guide and my mom wants to play Queen of Hearts and I already sent her your strategy guide, I just bought the expansion with evil queen as I see everyone recommending her.

I also put the Bow and Arrow on Sheriff of Nottingham so that I could not only attack with him, but keep him on the board to cycle 1-2 power every 2 turns.

    Eh I disagree with your point about not playing allies early on. Prince John is really all about the LONG game, you have to have a sense of Long term planning with him and that means getting allies on the board quick as you can so that you don't get stuck in a situation where you can't summon anything. I'd say spend all your power early on to get the warrants on all three spaces and also try and get at least on set of Rhino Guards on the field in case you get fated with King Richard or Robin Hood. Once you have that set up then you can start accumulating power slowly. It also might catch other players off guard if they see you spend power early on. Once you have a strong board set up then you can sit back and collect power while fating an opponent every other turn.
    You also didn't talk about the two most dangerous heroes.....King Richard and Robin Hood, they both have a high strength and bad abilities that can really put the hurt on you. If you get fated with Robin Hood and don't have a Rhino Guard already on the field (which is your best bet for beating him). Robin Hood also completely negates your gain 1 power spot and Sherrif's ability so you need to get rid of him asap. Your other allies are too weak to deal with him, but Rhino and I think any other ally or Rhino with golden arrow or bow can beat him by himself. If King Richard gets placed on the board you won't be able to use effects so you can't just place allies in jail.
    I agree with you on leaving certain heroes alone, and for the ones you mentioned you can move them to the jail and then combo with Sherrif to gain power off them every other turn. That's a good strategy.
    One final note on Greed, I'm not 100% on this but I believe you can use it to win if you wait to use it on an opponents turn that is right before yours. The stated goal is to START your turn with 20 power, so if you use it on an opponents turn when you have 17 power would that not win you the game pretty much then?

    Prince John DOESN’T need to rely on “power-gain board abilities” to gain power & play cards… that’s his most powerful synergy. 1. Set up your power gaining engines (sherif + warrants)… 2. Fate every turn (never go to the +3 or +2 spaces)…. You’ll win eventually by making your opponents lose

      This card states you "may" move an Ally. Which means you do not have to when you play the card. You do have to perform a vanquish action to play this card though, and have Allies with enough strength at a location to vanquish a Hero at that location.

  • @ClaudiaRodriguez-wq5sn

    Thanks for this awesome video! A little late to the party, but I'm confused about the ally Trigger. His ability is that "all other Allies at Trigger's location get -1 Strength". Do you know if this is a typo and should've been +1 Strength? It seems a little counterintuitive and otherwise I just discard Trigger

    • @LordoftheBoard
      @LordoftheBoard  3 роки тому

      It is to counter act that trigger has a high strength value for a cheap power cost. So really good if the only one at the location is trigger. It’s thematic too as trigger accidentally shoots that crossbow in the cartoon all the time :)

  • @TheDrexxus
    @TheDrexxus 3 роки тому +3

    I disagree with the strategy here.
    To win as John, you need 20 power, that has to be your priority. You should alternate between the jail and the church to build up 5 power every 2 turns.
    For Sir Hiss, only play him to the Church for the access to the 2 power there, but only play him if a hero is blocking the location, otherwise hold onto the card and keep it in your hand if needed to save that 2 power.
    For Sheriff, again, you only want to play him if you'll actually benefit from playing him. He costs 3 power, so that means he won't pay for himself until he takes money from heroes 3 times and won't profit until he does it 4 times. If you only have one hero in your realm, that can be 7 turns before he justifies his own cost, and even with 2 heroes it'll take 4 turns to justify his cost. There are points in the game where it just isn't worth it to play him because you can win very quickly as prince john, long before the Sheriff earns his cost back.
    The other allies you should never play outside of extremely situational circumstances. If you're lucky, you can use Cowardice to play allies for free, but otherwise don't play them. You have to consider the cost of every action. The Vanquish action for example is at a location with only 1 power gain and that power gain is at the top of the location. This means you are losing anywhere from 1 to 3 power just by moving to this location at all. Then, if you don't already have allies in play to vanquish for you, it means you also have to spend additional power to play them first which is going to run you 2-3 more power. You have to add up ALL of the power costs of actually vanquishing a target and ask yourself if it is truly worth it.
    Robin Hood is easily the most annoying hero but even he only drains you 1 power per turn, so the cost of vanquishing him can easily outweigh what he would actually take from you over the remaining duration of the game. For example, if you have 10 power and Robin Hood is played, rather than gaining 5 power every 2 turns, you'll instead gain 3 power every 2 turns. You will still earn 20 power in 4 turns, he will have only taken 4 power from you in that span (not counting losses from Beautiful Lovely Taxes). So you'd have to be in a situation where you could spend less power than what you stand to gain before the game ends to justify killing him and unless he is played on turn 1 or 2, it just isn't worth it to kill him. King Richard is in the same boat. All he does is prevent Beautiful Lovely Taxes, which can be a big blow to you if you're getting fated a lot and have a lot of heroes in play, but again, you have to calculate what it would cost to kill him vs what Beautiful Lovely Taxes would actually get you. You can't count him as one of the heroes in the count because he'll be dead, so with 1 other hero you'd only gain 1 power per play, and that won't justify killing him. You'd need 2 at a minimum and low on money to make it worth doing.
    The only times you want to play allies other than Sheriff and Hiss are:
    Robin Hood is out and you have 5 or less power
    You got them for free with Cowardice
    Richard is out and there are 2 other heroes and a lot of turns to go, or 3+ other heroes
    You have a hero in your realm with enough power stacked on them to put your total at 20 after you vanquish them
    I'm always aware of how much additional power I need to win, and if there is a hero that has stored power on them that would combine with your total to put you at 20, you need to vanquish it. The Sheriff + Hiss combo can take out any hero except Lady Kluck, unless Alan A Dale is out, then Richard and Robin will both be too strong as well, but an extra ally or item would sway it in your favor so long as you'd still hit 20 power after the vanquish.
    Always hold onto Greed. Only play Hiss if Church has a hero or you get Cowardice to activate. Only play Sheriff if he'll earn back a profit or you get Cowardice to activate. Play Beautiful Lovely Taxes every time it comes up as long as you have at least one hero. Play Golden Arrow to sheriff if you have him, or some other ally if you don't (because it is free).
    The one and only thing that I spend power on is the Crown. I place this in the Church spot and the beauty of it is it only costs 1 power and turns several of your other cards free to play. Warrant and Bow and Arrows both become free to use. Before, they weren't worth ever playing, but now you can throw them down as you get them at no cost for that 1 time cost of playing the crown for 1 power, and that is definitely worth it. I've never had a game where I lost by 1 power, typically i'm 2-3 power higher than I need to be when I win. The crown is also great because it changes the cost efficiency of Ally cards such as Wolf Archers. Making them only cost 1 to play dramatically improves their value, particularly at the end game when you're ready to vanquish a hero to immediately bump up to 20 power. It also reduces the Sheriff down to a 2 cost card, which means he only has to move to a hero twice to justify his cost rather than 3 times. This can make him start producing profit 1 to 2 turns sooner than otherwise.
    Discard everything else to try to get more Greed and Cowardice, Beautiful Lovely Taxes, as well as Hiss and Sheriff if you don't already.
    Never cast Imprison as there is no real point. It costs 2 power, or potentially 1 with the crown, but you don't really gain anything because your goal is Power and the only location they can block is the Church and Sir Hiss completely nullifies that as far as the power gain is concerned, so there is really no need to ever clear the blockage as the only other thing you gain is a second Play Card action and you shouldn't be playing many cards anyway as your whole goal is to save money. The other locations don't matter at all because you lose too much power going to them for it to be worth it.
