    So my friends and I have been playing this system since it came out, and I highly doubt we could ever hope to make such a great video series on it! SO well done, next time I introduce someone to the system I will 100% steer them your way. Keep up the great work!

    The triumph success is gone if negated by a fail...but the triumph still exists. It isn't a direct success or critical since the success was cancelled. As an example, you are on a catwalk making a saber swing at someone trying to attack you, and you miss. But have a triumph with a canceled success. The person doesn't get hit, ducks, falls off catwalk and is holding on for life with their hands. Also a triumph and despair don't cancel each other.

    Great video, thanks! However suspect there may be one mistake at 8:50. My understanding of the rules is that downgrading a roll when there are only green (or purple) dice available in the pool does not remove a die. Upgrading can add a green (or purple) die, but downgrading never removes dice. Yes? Correct me if I'm wrong though

    Great video! I bought the book and I am learning how to play. This explanation helped clear some things up for me. There were a few things I think could use some clarification regarding the rules.
    You can only add dice when upgrading. When you are downgrading proficiency dice to ability dice, you do not subtract any ability dice. If you have no proficiency dice to downgrade, you ignore it. Same goes for difficulty and challenge dice.
    Also, Triumph and Despair only can cancel out the success or failure aspects of each other. In other words, if you roll a triumph, a despair, and a success, the despair cancels out one of the failures and the check succeeds. However both a triumph effect and a despair effect happen.

    Hi. I'm getting the starter kit that should arrive tomorrow. Kind of newbie in RPGs, since I was a kid, and planning to play this with my kids now.
    Now... to be honest, this rolling thing seems quite more complicated than that of D&D? Maybe it is because I'm not used to it, but let's see...
    Thanks for the explanation!

      I know what you mean. It's actually more efficient for the type of game FFG's Star Wars setting is, considering it's a d12 system instead of a d20 system. Also it more actively encourages and involves the people in the group in adding to the story as it constantly evolves.
      What it comes down to is that you have to give yourself a little time to get your head around it, but it'll click quickly once you do it a small number of times.

    When a skill ranks surpasses a characteristics, yes, just add green. If agility is 3, but proficiency rank is a max 5, then add two green. However, the only way to upgrade these to yellow is by using destiny points or something specific on a tree skill.

    • @Tacid_Krios

      Incorrect, rules as written indicate that if all dice are upgraded, but you need to upgrade more, you add it one, then upgrade, then add, then upgrade.

    My question is if you want to start playing these games can you get any of the base games source books or starter sets such as Age of Rebellion, and then buy an expansion book for a different game such as Force and Destiny or can you just get any source book, including prequel/clone wars era books and just play the game.

    • @Tacid_Krios
      @Tacid_Krios 2 роки тому

      You can use any of the 3 core books with any supplements, or even together, that's the beauty in how the system works.
      You can have a bounty hunter from Edge of Empire, a soldier from age of rebellion, and a knight from Force and Destiny all in the same game, you can even have a specialization from each one on the same character!

      There are a few ways, if you're still not sure, there is a platform called Roll20, but it's gotten a bit of a bad name for it's self due to some political issues.
      There's an awesome website called rpgsessions where you can organize character sheets and dice rolls, but there's no virtual game table (not that you need one for this game)

    Yeeea, I don't think I have the IQ for this dice system. I watched that section 3 times and I'm still confused. Maybe it's more of a "learn through experience" kinda thing. I've mainly used the d20 system, but d100 and d10 systems have been kinda easy-ish for me to grasp. But this.....I might b imagining it, but I kinda feel a headache coming on. I might b able to understand it but actually playing a session, but I keep imagining the gm throwing minis at me for having to explain the rolls to me too many times.

  • @zynthio

    With how huge Star Wars is over the last couple years, and how big D&D has gotten, it's a real shame that a star wars ttrpg isn't right up there with them in popularity. This game will never reach that status though... As cool and interesting as the system is, I think it's way too complicated and abstract of a game to appeal to casual tabletop players or even experienced D&D players - Even if people that play it don't think it's that complicated, it seems way too complicated and abstract from the outside. Plus the fact that they made it EXTREMELY vague and abstract to get into the game just based on the books. Instead of just putting out one core rule book as they should have, they split it up into 3?? The setting and conflict of the game should be a separate book from the core rule book, which was a major oversight and makes this game way too confusing to learn about.
    There have been a few times over the last few years where I've thought "hey maybe I should make another attempt to learn the Star Wars rpg so I can teach my friends" and then I try and watch anyone explain how the system works and I completely zone out when they start explaining the dice lmao
    They put this out at a time when D&D 5e was just coming out, and The Force Awakens was *MONTHS* away from release. It's almost as if they didn't consider that second part at all before making this game, and didn't anticipate the need for an accessible Star Wars ttrpg.
    I'm surprised that Disney and Lucasfilm haven't put out a new ttrpg by now, it's almost been 9 YEARS, which is crazy to think about. But if they haven't by now they probably won't. And because of that I will probably just try out one of the older Star Wars rpgs, or just use the Star Wars 5e conversion which is very extensive at this point

    • @chand911

    Can someone please answer my question ive been searching for hours. Can the gm give minions difficulties and. I dont meant wound threashold or any of that i mean purple dice. I just notice everytime i attack someone they only get 1 purple die because im in range is there an way for them to get more defensive die against me besides set back die? Or is purple strictly on what range they are? I hope someone helps lol

    • @shilohkaneshiro
      @shilohkaneshiro  3 роки тому +2

      The difficulty is strictly based on the range of the attack (so Easy for Short, Average for Medium, and so on). However the difficulty can increase due to some factors: if the attacker is dual-wielding, if the attacker is using a weapon that is damaged two steps, if the target is engaged. Some factors may also "upgrade" the difficulty (which can add purples in a way): the target is engaged with an ally, the target has the "adversary" talent (a creature with the adversary talent upgrades the difficulty of all attacks against them equal to their ranks in adversary. I would add this to your enemies to make them harder to hit if that is your goal). Keep in mind that "upgrading" is different than "increasing". Does this help?

    • @ryemccoy
      @ryemccoy 3 роки тому +2

      Also defense rating can increase difficulty to the offensive character's dice pool.

  • @Christophecj
    @Christophecj 2 роки тому +3

    CRITICAL WARNING! Sorry but there is a critical failure in the explanation at 6:12. You do not systematically use your characteristic to determine the number of Ability dice, you use the highest between the Characteristic and the Skill. Then you use the lowest of the two to upgrade as many Ability dice to Proficency dice! This is absolutely core to the system!!!

    I'm sure you've done a good job of explaining it, but if it takes 15 minutes to explain a dice system, the dice system is bad

  • @weirdguy564
    @weirdguy564 3 роки тому

    Or you could play one of the many Star Wars clone games, because 18 minutes to explain how to roll dice? Maybe this isn't for me. My favorite clone is Star Adventurer. It is based on D&D (called the OSR, Old School Revival). Its also super cheap, $3 for a PDF, or $9 for a book, only 35 pages long. Simple and it works. Or you could go with White Star, another D&D clone with Star Wars, but more detailed and traditional D&D rules. Another game is Savage Worlds Adventurer Edition (SWADE), which is a generic do everything game, including Star Wars. SWADE doesn't play like other games. Basically, you roll a single dice and try to get a 4 or more. With little skill, that just a single 4-side die, or you can upgrade your skills and use a single 6, 8, 10, or 12 sided die instead. Again, simple.

    • @Tacid_Krios
      @Tacid_Krios 2 роки тому +1

      The 18 minutes to explain the dice is just a very indepth explanation to all of its facets, it can be boiled down to green, yellow, blue = good while purple, red, black = bad, as long as the GM knows how the system works the workload can be almost non-existent for the players.
