Billy Sheehan, Steven Harris then James Jamerson. Used to only play jazz basses then switched and started to really love and appreciate precision basses. Billy Sheehan and the crazy sounds he got out of that bass was the big moment that made me take notice of them. Nowadays I love and appreciate the simple one pickup, one volume, one tone setup. It's like a telecaster it's a blank slate you get out of a p bass what you put in
I believe I Want You Back, the Jackson 5 number was recorded with an early Telecaster Bass (basically a reissue of an early single coil P Bass). Great video.
I had one in the early 1970s. I think that there was a single coil pick up vs. split coil pickup and the fact that the Telecaster Bass was built like a tank gave it a sound that set it apart from other P-Basses. Wanting a faster playing instrument, I sold it sadly. That one piece maple neck was a beast to play. I remember that they also came out in paisley (so groovy).
John Entwistle The Who Live at Leads. Was my initial inspiration. Bruce Foxton - The Jam. Once he moved from the Ricky’s. JJ Burnel- The Stranglers Roger Waters - Pink Floyd James Jamerson- Motown Steve Harris - Iron Maiden Duck Dunn - Stax (and the Blues Brothers) For me it seems all my favourite bass players use the Pbass. If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me. Plugged into an Ashdown ABM and you have (IMHO) the perfect tone.
I own: '89 Fender P lyte, '10 Fender Kingman acoustic, '21 Fender jazz, '24 Rick 4003, '24 Dingwall combustion. The Kingman gets most playing time, that is my home practice bass. Despite being "old faithful" and an incredible playing bass that IS the bar I have set for how a bass should feel and play... My P has not seen stage time since I found "the" jazz. All previous jazzes I've owned were #2 back ups till this one took the #1 spot. That #1 got pushed down to #3 the moment the Ding and Rick entered the quiver. All that to say, A P bass is literally the standard I set for what a bass is supposed to be. For near 30 years I could not find a bass that met that standard, let alone surpassed it. I'm in a very cool place to be able to call my old faithful a back up, and I will NEVER part with it.
Nice thing also about p basses is they are easy to mod… you can easily put an aguilar obp 2 preamp in there plus a 9v to get some thicc extra bottom end
Bruh imagine I’m just about to do stuff on my scooter at my local skatepark and seeing this guy just casually sitting there with a camera playing bass💀
Thank you but let me say this: you need to pay attention on phrasing and articulation. Almost every of the line was wrong and therefore wasn‘t ‚in the pocket‘. Just listen to the tone lenghts and compare it to yours. This makes a ok player a good one. (not to be meant mean)
I enjoyed making this video, that's what counts to me. Your feedback may well be valid, but as ever I only get critiqued by users with no content of their own to back up the claimed expertise.
@@JulesGuitar unfortunately I got no time to uplead videos. It‘s sad you took it like this. You would have gotten a better player if you took my critique seriously. And if you get such comments there might be some truth to it? 😉

Leo Fender was a Genius, this bass had more than 50 years, and still works in every recording
One of the first riffs I learned after I got my P Bass was Dancing In The Moonlight by Thin Lizzy. It’s one of my all time favorite riffs ever.
Dark side of the moon. The entire album. Thats what made me want a p bass.
when i got my bass the first riff i learned was from money 😂, pink floyd was a massive inspo
That album was on a Ric tho
@@jacobpullen6949 true but it feels more right as a bass line.
One of these days! Also Echoes Pompeii, that jam session is the part I love to play.
I approve.
My Squier P Bass is over 25 years old, I've been saving for a Fender all that time, but bills! Love that old Squier though.
I've had a few pre CBS P-basses and Jasses and I've also had a 30 year old Squire P-bass. I loved that Squire.
@@Olle-555No shame in a squier these days, those new broncos are a blast

Didn't Billy initially played on P-bass and switched to Yamaha after that? I don't think he played JB too much, no?
@@AVlad-eg3dsYeah but his yamaha still has that split p pickup. A humbucker as well but I think he still uses a p bass like tone
Buddy .. thats what Bass is all about .. relaxed location outdoors, a killer bass tone, straight lines, not too fancy but totally groovy. Great clip
im glad i saw this video. ive wanted to pick up bass and now that i have some extra money im gonna learn this summer. you sold me on it for sure
P bass is a great starter bass. My first bass was a p bass.
Did you end up getting a bass? If so, whatcha get?
Buy one asap. Bass is badass and FUN.

that's true! and it was wilton felder who played on the track, not james jamerson. funny how there's so much information about that

Mission accomplished! Great backdrop for a bass video too. 😎👍
I’m sitting here wondering how much skate wax ended up on your pants when you got off the ledge.
Not much it proably it looks as if it’s a metal hubba which tend for people to use less wax
The smiths and Elvis Costellos early stuff have lovely p bass riffs , also Pixies and that song Belong by REM
Well played, sir!
Awesome video....my wish is for a FENDER player series Precision Bass in white 🤍
but yours is very pretty too😍
Well done!! Pino Palladino is my P-Hero
Cool video!
From the YT algorithm, .... Nice One🎶👌💖 (ad. LOVE the P-Bass, in every accet, warm and Funk! - b.t.w., sexy bass)
Very nice 🎶🎵📻🎤🎸
I suggest you add Daffy's dance- Headhunters, and Gigantic by Pixies.. Cheers.... However, all these songs you played on the video are excellent....
Inspirierende Umgebung zum Bassen...
1 minute into this, I am convinced.
What pickup do you have on your p bass bro? That thing sounds GOOD!!!
Love my PJ bass
Damn nice Bass guitar
Want just one p bass? That's unheard of,that's why I got 4,lol 😂🤣

White or Cream color? Looks nice the p-bass !!
Peaches..!JJ BURNELL.GREATEST BASS PLAYER
That nailed the needed tones perfectly. What strings, tone knob setting and amp sim were you using?
I'm a happy J bass player, just my preference. The P bass is an incredible bass 😍
Leo Fender created a masterpiece on his first take!... but I still say a O bass needs 3 knobs,Volume,Bass and Treble
Nice thing also about p basses is they are easy to mod… you can easily put an aguilar obp 2 preamp in there plus a 9v to get some thicc extra bottom end
Or drill an extra hole in the pick guard… and if you mess up, hey your out $30… buy another and try again. 😎
P bass can get good distortion tones and the pickup has humbucking so less noise
The 51 p - bass is not this one.
There is a Harley Benton bass that looks like this one and I want it!
Harley Bentons are amazingly solid instruments
20 seconds in yep I want 1
Preaching to the choir. 60+ years as a P bass lover.
Beautiful! What strings do you have on it?
I had Fender 7250 roundwound strings... they were probably 3 years old, hence more vintage tone
Those fender strings sound so good
How about Clairvoyant by Iron Maiden bro?
PINK FLOYD/ LED ZEP MAKES ME WANT A BASS
Roger Waters = Precision Bass
John Paul Jones = Jazz Bass

What pickups and strings are on your precision? Sounds great!
What strings are you using?
Can I ask what set you have to record your sound?
Very interesting: direct in or bassa amp sim?
I use 'Clean DI' preset in GarageBand, so not 100% direct sound, but pretty close. I doubled the track with a distortion pedal applied for some parts.
Under Pressure’s baseline was also used in Ice Ice Baby
I want one.
Ramble On, Zeppelin 🤙🏽
Where Jamerson?
It was actually Keane’s Somewhere We Know that made me want one.

nice
отличный бас!!!
♡ P Bass ever..!!
Dark Necessities by RHCP..? Not played on a p bass but would sound good on any bass
thin lizzy!!!
Thin Lizzy rules.
I'll take you there....7 nation army
P bass rules!!!
No ‘What is Hip’? 😢
Should have a Precision anyway, if you're bass player that's all you need....most any amp will do.
When you used the pick how much tone used (sorry for mi Inglish xp)
I had the tone on 100% for the whole video. The strings were very old, so it still sounds quite warm.

PJ basses are the best :)
"I want you back" - pretty faulty version played
Pretty much all of early Green Day lol
