*Time to celebrate another developer not releasing another game for 5 years.* I've covered Naughty Dog and Rockstar in this series, and I'm excited to finally explore another one of my favourite developers. I wanted to focus on the games I think displayed the most attention to detail, so some games I left off. I really hope you guys enjoy the video, and thanks for watching!
See, with Valve, I can always understand why they take so long to make games. It's cause the cockroach AI needs another 3 years to perfect before release.
This is probably a case of "they made murder from AmongUs into a real thing" comedy. But in a way yes, they didn't make anything for a long time before HLAlyx...
Using the “look” voice command on the survivors in the first level on Dead Center will refer to them as “Mr. and Ms.” before entering the elevator and promptly Introducing themselves and refer to them with their actual names. Neat thing valve would take account when it comes to voice lines
Same thing for special infected. After rochelle names the infected, they will instantly refer to it as that. I tried it out with a vocalized and it was super cool. I honestly used to think they only knew their names after a level change and not during a level
@@worldsmostevilman they actually added that in the last stand update, so you are not remembering wrong. it used to be that on the second level they immediately could name all the specials in unity and would first refer to each survivor by their names at that point, not after the elevator opens. it has changed now so that when they exit the elevator, they know each others names, and they now first need to kill a special in the second chapter to decide what to call it. the lines were already recorded on game release, but they were unused up until the update rochelle also fixes the plothole on how l4d1 and l4d2 survivors are calling the specials by the same names. being a news producer, when she names them, she will mention what they were called on the news
Also: In HL2, barnacles will remember the taste of objects you trick them with and will ignore them later. Also, eating a poison headcrab kills them instantly. In L4D2, survivors don’t know each other’s names at the beginning. Using the “look” command will say something like “hey you.” The Tank can also destroy the strongman game. That’s all I can remember.
On l4d2 map 1 if someone dies before elevator, instead of exchanging their names during the descent they'll try to guess the dead survivors name and honor him
I think I heard that from the beginning the survivors use different names for the types of zombies until in later chapters they settle on their final names
Ellis says "scuse me sir" to Nick Nick calls Ellis stuff like "Cletus/Cooter/kid/Overalls" and Rochelle "sweetie/honey" Rochelle calls Nick "Suit/fancy man"
Dont know how successful Alyx was, but damn, Valve really raised the bar how a VR game should look like and not just cel-shaded figures with low poly bows and swords. Valve has always had an insane amount of detail in their games, but just pieces and stuff, but actually world building details that solidifies the lore.
@@DOSeater Yeah I think the Non-VR mod helped a bit too, not limiting the game to VR owners. Hope to see more games with the standard that HL Alyx delivered.
I feel like most of these details resulted form extensive play testing and watching what players would do, then adding in clever details to accommodate that. I really wish Valve still made games.
HL Alyx is so fucking CLEAN. I cant figure out a damn flaw in it. Its the first VR game that actually felt like a game id play on a TV. I played almost the entire thing sitting down too. Amazing work. Their games (if they make anymore that is) might force me to buy into better VR tech
There's been reports recently that they're dropping VR from future games to focus on the Steam Deck. It'll be devastating because Alyx made me see how much potential there is in the future of VR, and it felt like they were only getting started.
@@FunWithGuru if anything, the power of the steam deck seems to open the way for a truly self contained vr system that only requires a headset and/or a wearable device. I hope the Steam Deck succeeds, because i know the moment it does, Valve will start working on the next big thing.
6:33 , you should really make a pt. 2 video of your attention to detail in your own videos, you put the channels icon on the billboard like you paid the advertisement company, great work man!

About the survivors not knowing what to call the special infected in the first campaign, prior to The Last Stand update, there was a mechanic that was cut, that when the specials were killed in the first map of Dead Center, if the survivors were near it when it was killed, Rochelle who worked as a news reporter would say "They called those on the news" or "They used to call these when i worked at the news channel", at which Nick would usually reply with "So that's a huh? Guess ", and would from that point on refer to those infected by their respective names. When The Last Stand update released, this mechanic was restored to the game, and they will only refer to these infected by their name if they are close to them after they were killed, this goes on for almost the entirety of the Dead Center campaign until they reach the Mall, from that point on they'll just refer to them normally by their appropriate names.
they also dont know each other's name in first chapter of Dead Center and if you use "Look" command on them they'll use something else to call them, with the exception of Coach because he's Coach this is also included in friendly fire lines, mourns after death and if someone dies early before elevator, survivors have different lines in elevator meeting according to whoever died afterwards it changes in chapter 3 (the mall)
They are callouts rather than post-kill lines. Left 4 Coochie is right though about the namecalls for the survivors. After the elevator moment, the L4D2 survivors will use each other’s general name calls with the look command. Nick’s the only exception to match his attitude this early on in the game until Mall
@@villager2342 i had a feeling it was going the day it was announced... turtle rock was there and stuff but valve just always adds another layer of games when they make them. I would have loved to see a l4d3 :(

3:34 This is because they were never intended to be on fire. However, in the beta they actually scream in pain and their flat line sound remains. If you add the hl2 beta sound files, make some modifications to the sentences file, the feature will be restored.
13:32 no clue if it's intentional or not or if i'm even mishearing it, but assuming it is then that's a genius little detail to have alyx mispronounce it as "bodka", since she's only heard the word over a relatively unclear radio and the cyrillic letter for v lools like the latin letter b
The tech of Valve is something else. No company can match it in my opinion. Awesome video as always. Also 6:31 You can see an easter egg on the billboard.
In l4d2 I for some reason always thought when the survivors called the hunters "jumpers" in the first level, it was because the zombies were walking along the ledge outside of the windows. I thought it was intended to be a joke, a tasteless one at that. I have no idea why I was convinced that was what they were going for, it's obvious it's because they JUMP.

Can we appreciate that liquid being liquid in the vodka bottles as well? Or the fact you can draw using the markers in Alyx? Crazy. When I was a kid I had this Star Wars game where you had a little light saber and the camera was a practice bot I think it came out in 2005? I thought that shit was advanced.
The level of detail that goes into these games is incredible. I've played Half-Life 2 so many times now, and I *always* notice a new detail every time. 30 years from now, we're still going to find brand new small details in these games that Valve had no reason to add. So few people will actually notice these details while playing, but it goes such a long way into making these worlds feel truly alive
Another neat detail in Half-Life: Alyx - When you see the Vault for the first time, if you don't look at it at all and continue to find the keycard and leave the room, Russel will berate you for not looking at the Vault and proceed to explain it to you.
You can usually count on Valve for their singleplayer games TF2 hasnt received a update for a long time Too much card games But stuff like Half Life and Portal? They’re perfect
On my first playthrough, I took a vodka bottle to the next area like you're suppose to for the achievement but I thought that if I brought it to the end of the game I would get a second achievement... you do not. To make things worse, I didn't know you could just put it in your inventory so literally for the rest of the game I would gently put the bottle on the ground before every battle and loading screen. With loading screens though, if its in your hand while its loading, once the next chapter starts, it spawns out of your hand and will smash. So EVERY chapter I ended up squatting and making sure my hands was just high and low enough to keep it safe... its very dumb
Nope. GladOS said "He's the product of the greatest minds of a generation working together with the express purpose of building the dumbest moron who ever lived." He's been like that the whole time since it's his sole purpose lol
I should have said "What If" before that lmao. I know that Wheatley was a dummy bot, but it would be a fun hypothetical. Plus, GladOS untrustworthy when it comes to what she says about who she deems "lesser". She could mean that when the cores are connected to her body they dampen her own control like in the original Portal, and being a narcissist, she thinks that that means that they are so stupid that they make her stupider rather than actually being dampening tool they were made for. He is the second most intelligent bot in Portal (iirc) and he acts pretty normal before the flashlight part. So, again, her narcissism and fear of being outsmarted could just be her saying things about Wheatley to make Chell (another smart character that GladOS constantly calls stupid, and a weird obsession for calling her fat a lot for some reason) believe that he is lesser than he is. Definitely not true, but fun to think about.
I tell you GuruKid, I saw SO MANY Half-Life and Portal easter-eggs / details videos that I really truly thought I knew literally everything about the game. And yet you managed to find almost unknown features, references and easter eggs I don't even know how... Well I guess there is a reason if I followed you for like 5 years, and you f*king deserve those 788 thousands subs, big GG of being the best easter eggs channel of the entire UA-cam... Props to you o7
I've literally just been replaying the whole Valve collection! Half Life 2 is easily my favourite game of all time, so a video with Guru and Half Life 2.. You can bet I leapt on it so fast!
I really enjoy your content man, i wish there was a new video every week but i understand that making content of this quality takes time and a lot of effort. Thanks for taking your time with this.
There are more details you didn't include in the video. But... It's an amazing video. One of the best I've watched this year. Thank you, for making it.
Hats off for, fittingly, above and beyond attention to detail in this video's editing. Every detail had a perfect showcase length, comparison shot, and intelligently placed clips and zoom-ins for super clear viewing. Also love the attention put into the music - my favorite moment was when the strength game in l4d2's bell flew off, which acted as a starting cue for the instrumental version of Want You Gone in the Portal 2 bit of the video. Another great one was how the music faded out in sync with Gordon leaving his Jeep in the Half Life 2 bird poop bit. Know that these things don't go unnoticed nor unappreciated, there was clearly a lot of love put into these videos! Cheers
I’ll give a detail in tf2 In the ending of meet the medic it shows the mercs lined up to have their hearts compatible for Uber charge when scout leaves the room you see that archimedes medics bird is inside his chest In game there is around a 10% chance if you gib or blow up scout a bird will fly from his corpse
@FunWihGuru thank you for adding the disclaimer that some Valve games would not be included. I just hope a Part 2 could come out in the future, featuring some TF2 content. This is quality work; You now have a new subscriber!
Aye, this is a well edited video, for just pointing out details, not many would go this far to edit this video, props to whoever the editor is and yourself
Cualquier juego la mayoría no todo que saca valve simpre sale exitoso porque se toman su tiempo no importa cuantos años tome, por eso yo creo que están desarrollando algo aún, como half-life alyx que nos impresiono mucho
TF2 has the most details in its maps, to the point that almost all of them look like real facilites with posters detailing schedules, management meetings and stuff like that.
This is more about Valve's character design but I'd like to point out Larry's helmet having a lot of spikes, most probably against Headcrabs and Barnacles.

Another neat detail in Half-Life: Alyx - When you see the Vault for the first time, if you don't look at it at all and continue to find the keycard and leave the room, Russel will berate you for not looking at the Vault and proceed to explain it to you.
This is why valve games could be considered the "citizen kane" of games. They always innovated stuff.
"Some games will not be featured"
Damn, shame I don't get to see all the little details in Richochet, my favorite Valve game
You can usually count on Valve for their singleplayer games
TF2 hasnt received a update for a long time
Too much card games
But stuff like Half Life and Portal?
They’re perfect
Major update specifically we still got them seasonal updates
That Guru billboard though. 👀🤌🏼
10:13 I noticed that but I always thought the Aperture logo was just printed onto the board
Wow, Valve literally defined detail in Half-Life: Alyx
6:32 the billboard up aHEAD
2:52 I love that perfect cut of the music
The Flashlight gave Wheatley "brain" damage, which is why he acts like that for the rest of the game.
There's no way that's actually a thing
@@Dramilos yeah glados said he was made to specifically dampen her intellect so he's just like that
Lol, no he's just an idiot, specifically designed to dampen Glados's intelligence with "An endless stream of terrible ideas".
7:15 there's also one for if you're right up against a wall, the charger will push the survivors against the ground into the wall
Yeah, but that moment is quite common since the Charger will likely to ram you into a wall.
15:15 - That’s about the coolest detail I’ve ever seen. I’m glad I’m only halfway through Alyx, I may yet get to do this :)
pay attention to the bottles with water or wine bottles in the game the amount of detail in then is insane.
What the hell, this video legitimately blew my mind, amazing work as always, best channel on youtube.
i missed channels like these that just compile cool video game facts with no commentary
You're honestly in the top youtubers ever dude. Awesome job as always, been following for years now. Thanks for your hard work and your time
thanks so much! :)
the transitions between games 👌
Especially this part 8:42
I tell you GuruKid, I saw SO MANY Half-Life and Portal easter-eggs / details videos that I really truly thought I knew literally everything about the game. And yet you managed to find almost unknown features, references and easter eggs I don't even know how... Well I guess there is a reason if I followed you for like 5 years, and you f*king deserve those 788 thousands subs, big GG of being the best easter eggs channel of the entire UA-cam... Props to you o7
i love the little music resembling the game about to be shown, nice attention to detail in a video about attention to detail
Always get excited when Guru drops another video
These videos are some fine art
8:41 That transition is so smooth it deserves an award
I love how you said that there's a 'hidden detail' at the laser sight and it is literally the definition of 'detail' partially hidden
I've literally just been replaying the whole Valve collection! Half Life 2 is easily my favourite game of all time, so a video with Guru and Half Life 2.. You can bet I leapt on it so fast!
Great games ❤ big love and the sound special 2:34 🙏🏻
Valve and rockastar are the only companies that have an amazing rival of attention to details.
Crytek
Some of the smoothest Musical Transitions I've ever seen in a video god dayum chief!
I really enjoy your content man, i wish there was a new video every week but i understand that making content of this quality takes time and a lot of effort. Thanks for taking your time with this.
thanks so much! :)
These games have so much love in them. I appreciate the work of valve there.
I actually noticed one of your Easter eggs! Guru Radio is my favorite station
god i always love the little easter eggs of yourself you put in like the billboard with your channel on it with the infected names
I love that you’re a playboi carti fan
All I do is make videos and listen to Carti.
There are more details you didn't include in the video.
But...
It's an amazing video. One of the best I've watched this year. Thank you, for making it.
I appreciate that the game with the most amount of hidden detail is also the most recent, hope there will be more
5:26 I noticed when I played once. And I was amazed by it ever since.
15:00 You can crush with difrent controllers too
Vive/WMR: Grip
Oculus: X/A
Guru, just wanted to say that I follow your channel since 2012/2013 and your work has always been high quality stuff.
Keep it up!
another amazing half life alyx detail is when you shake pretty much anything theres a sound linked to it. even resin.
Cheers
thanks so much! :)
6:33 I saw what you did there ;)
Part of me wonders if Guru planted an obvious easter egg so that we don't pay attention to a much subtler one he hid....
6:33 gotta love guru on the billboard rocking them beats
the music transitions are the best part of this video. So good!!
I’ll give a detail in tf2
In the ending of meet the medic it shows the mercs lined up to have their hearts compatible for Uber charge when scout leaves the room you see that archimedes medics bird is inside his chest
In game there is around a 10% chance if you gib or blow up scout a bird will fly from his corpse
Everyone of these videos is just so cinematically pleasing. My eyes are always glued to the screen. Been watching since the beginning, love it!
6:32 cheeky bastard, this is why I love your channel haha
Bro, I've seen a lot of videos like this, but you really found something rare. Thank you.
How proud of yourself were you when you finished the transition between L4D2 to Portal 2? Because I was incredibly proud of you.
9:50 i love how wheatley is somehow even dumber than the frankenturrets
@FunWihGuru thank you for adding the disclaimer that some Valve games would not be included. I just hope a Part 2 could come out in the future, featuring some TF2 content. This is quality work; You now have a new subscriber!
Aye, this is a well edited video, for just pointing out details, not many would go this far to edit this video, props to whoever the editor is and yourself
5:20 Carti spotted
6:30 probably one of your most obvious easter eggs
man, i keep finding myself coming back to this video. and every single time i hear "want you gone" with 2011 on the screen my heart aches.
Damn the Triage at Dawn at 2:25 hit right in the feels
Cualquier juego la mayoría no todo que saca valve simpre sale exitoso porque se toman su tiempo no importa cuantos años tome, por eso yo creo que están desarrollando algo aún, como half-life alyx que nos impresiono mucho
TF2 has the most attention to detail, as it is the single most well-made class based FPS ever created
TF2 is great, but i think Left 4 Dead 2 has more attention.
@@he_carnation mate is Left 4 Dead a class based FPS?
@@crackjack144 what does that have 2 do w attention
TF2 has the most details in its maps, to the point that almost all of them look like real facilites with posters detailing schedules, management meetings and stuff like that.
nice easter egg on the poster - 6:33
Valve: Hey, could you add detail to the SMG?
3-D Modeler:
5:28 carti approved🧛🏿
This is more about Valve's character design but I'd like to point out Larry's helmet having a lot of spikes, most probably against Headcrabs and Barnacles.
Tagging onto this there appears to be blood on the frontal area of the spiked helmet, further proving this.
*music starts playing*
OH ITS HAPPENING, THE TRANSITIONS!
I love your editing style! It's got a really friendly-professional kinda feel.
